Life is too short to drink cheap wine with a good steak.

Here's a few to choose from

Stag's Leap S.L.V. Estates Cabernet 2003

Silver Oak 2002 Alexander Valley Cab

http://www.cask23.com/Wines/CS0036.php

Grgich Hills 2003 Cabernet

http://www.grgich.com/html/2003_cabernet_sauvignon.html

If you need to stay under 20.00-

St Francis 01 Claret

http://www.stfranciswine.com/wines/wine.asp?wine=24

Hogue Reserve Cabernet 2004

If you have a Total Beverage or Total Wine in the area, go in and ask. Those guys and gals know their stuff.

Some good choices there Kilmer!

For me, it depends on the steak as well. . .for nice fillet, and I really like a bold merlot, but for a porterhouse (t-bone) I prefer a shiraz, the sweetness brings out more of the flavor on the NY side of the steak.

For a great under $50 bottle, and a great all around steak wine, I would suggest Sebastiani Alexander Valley Cabernet circa 2003-4. It is one of the best under $50 cabs IMHO.

If you can find an 04 Beringer Pinot it's bank. Not a big fan of that vintner generally, but that wine is really good.

I prefer a cab with the fattier cuts, ribeye in paricular. With a leaner cut I find a softer wine like a good pinot complements it better.

Cakebread or Caymus are my choice for special occasion cabs, both are unbelievable but around 50 per. My favorite pinots are Bruce and Kingwood Esate and they are more reasonable 25/35.

i've bought yellow tail merlot. its not bad for under 10 dollars

right its not bad..

but if you looking to pair wine with steak you want to have a wine that brings out the flavor of steak not just one that is ok right? maybe I gotcha wrong..

yellowtail is a good drinking wine for cheap. but if your looking for a good dinner with good steak and good wine.. yellowtail isnt going ot cut it
