IRVING, Texas (AP) - Brad Johnson made it clear Tuesday that he didn't sign with the Cowboys in order to be Tony Romo sits to pee's mentor.

"I've never agreed with that terminology, that term: mentor," Johnson said in a conference call. "My role is to be ready to play at any moment, and my role will be defined in time."

Johnson became an unrestricted free agent last week after he was released by Minnesota. The Cowboys needed another quarterback after releasing Drew Bledsoe, who lost the starting job to Romo sits to pee in the Cowboys' seventh game last season.

Johnson's deal is reportedly for three years and $7.5 million.

Johnson, 38, said his decision came down to the Cowboys and Broncos. He chose the Cowboys because of his friendship with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and his displeasure with the role the Broncos had in mind for him - as mentor to quarterback Jay Cutler.

"They drafted Jay in the first round and he is the franchise. They want him there for the next 10 years," Johnson said. "He is loaded with potential and talent and they are looking for more of a mentor kind of role. That mentor thing, I really kind of disagreed with that."

comment Look for Brad to start by the 3rd game, he is a proven winner.

Hold the train cowboy, JJ said he will not have a QB controversy in pukeland. Unfortunately, Johnson is not known for causing a stink.

agreed, but many thought Johnson would be a good "mentor" to Romo sits to pee... and he is saying he didn't go to Dallas to mentor

This is the exact quote. doesn't sound too bad to me.

Johnson on being a possible mentor to Tony Romo sits to pee: "Tony knows football. we already have a quarterback coach, he doesn’t need another coach. My thing is to just work hard in practice and have a great relationship with Tony and hopefully he’ll have the greatest year of his life this year and do great things."

you left out the first part

Johnson, who was a teammate of Garrett's in Tampa Bay for part of one season, said he hopes Romo sits to pee and the Cowboys have a successful season but added that he is "not there for my health." Johnson plans to have a role in that success, and not one that involves holding a clipboard.

Romo sits to pee, he said, "already has a quarterback coach. He doesn't need another coach. My thing is to work hard in practice and have a great relationship with Tony and hopefully he has the best year of his life."

This move makes zero sense from the Cowgirls perspective. BJ isn't going to Dallas to backup Romo sits to pee, he's going there with the intention of competing for the starting job. In addition, this guy might just be the one QB who's less mobile than Bledsoe, and he's got a weaker arm to boot. The only thing he's got on Bledsoe is that he's got good decisionmaking skills. But that's just about it.

The decision making skills are what gets the ball out of hands before taking a sack and not throwing the mistakes that become turnovers. If their newest OL member jells well with the others, he should have time to make the decisions.
