The Redskins have re-signed free agent safety Vernon Fox, the team announced on Friday.

Fox originally joined the Redskins in August 2006 after he was released by the Detroit Lions. Midseason, he entered the starting lineup after Troy Vincent was slowed by a hamstring injury.

Fox started six games and proved to be a capable performer, logging 42 tackles (31 solo) and one interception, off Jake Delhomme in the Redskins' 17-13 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 12.

Fox, a fifth-year veteran, also played a key role on special teams. He finished with 26 tackles on punt and kickoff coverage, including six tackles and a blocked punt in the Week 16 game at St. Louis.

Great news, I was worried about Fox getting away. Say what you will, but he had to beat out a host of other players for that spot, hes at least a serviceable backup. Can you IMAGINE how good our safeties would be if we kept Clark? We would have Taylor, Prielou(I can never spell it), Clark and Fox. How nice would that have been?
