Nah ... it's a random draw. Every group in the World Cup is a group of death, given how hard it is to qualify. France were the champions in 1998 and didn't make it past the first round in 2002. France were the champions in 1998 and didn't make it past the first round in 2002. Every group is tough, but there's 2 groups particularly tougher than the rest, and that's C and E. So they're coined the "Groups of Death". It's not to slight how tough any of the teams (aside from maybe 4 or 5) in the Cup can be on a given day. And the group draw is random, but you could argue that the Euros at FIFA had no intention of letting the US get a seed for the draw. Ecuador won 2-0. If Germany ties or loses to the Poles, that will make a very interesting Germany-Ecuador matchup. Ecuador's D was outstanding tonight, Germany's was not.
