 OMG, this is totally rediculous.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (AP) -- Six sex offenders sued the city Wednesday to block a new ordinance that bars them from venturing within 1,000 feet of parks, pools and playgrounds when children are present.

The plaintiffs went to federal court to argue that the law is unconstitutionally vague, violates their rights to vote and attend church, and prevents them from freely traveling on roads that may pass within 1,000 feet of the affected sites.

The ordinance was approved May 15 and took effect immediately. It carries fines of up to $2,500.

The law includes an exception that permits sex offenders to visit those sites as long as they are with another adult who is not a convicted sexual offender.

The six, who include convicted child molesters and rapists, are represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana.

Tenley Drescher, an attorney for the city, said officials planned to defend the ordinance. "The important part is protecting kids," she said. [/Quote]

Ummm, does anyone realize there are hardly ANY places in urban areas that are NOT within 1000 ft of a school or a playground? Seriously, if that is the way the law is worded, it is completely wrong.

I am not defending their actions, but saying the law is a complete joke if that is the way it was worded.

They should have thought about that before they went and messed with children. Animals like that shouldnt be able to vote anyways.

If that is what they did. "Sex offender" is a very broad legal term, and is not limited to child molesters.

You are right, as written, that law is pretty ridiculous.

If you could never go with 1000 feet of any park, pool or playground in my city, you literally would be trapped in your home.

Actually, you would be breaking the law simply by staying in your home

if he/she wants to live near those areas...chemical castration.

Other then that, the sex offender must live in a more secluded area, and if he/she is religious...a priest will make house calls.

... But what if she's really really hot?

Sex offender not only includes child molestors, but 18 year olds who had sex with a girl friend younger than them.

I really don't like any manditory sentancing, I think the best thing to do is to take each case on a case by case basis.

 stop chasing me doing cross thread arguments

Well, if she's really really hot, then she can live with me :D

This is completely different then a 16 yr old getting sex from his teacher....BIG difference.

How about prostitution? Possession of pornography? Sodomy with your wife?

I agree with you. They need to better define sex offender, and do sentencing on a case by case basis.
