redmo002
He is an average blocking TE. Nothing else. He is not so good at catching though. He just about dropped more passes than he caught.

TheREALJBird
Well...he can block good, and is hard working. Mediocre receiver at best though, and slow as molasses
deskskins
Royal was a scrub. I'm glad he's gone and that a quality senile owner like that guy in Buffalo missed watching the Tape on old Robert. He has Mark Bravaro size by Rod Gardner hands. So the best thing I can say is hold your breath when they go to him in the passing game.
Zazzaro703
I remember when we first got him i thought he was gonna be a big contributer to the offense. Then he got hurt. He got unlucky and had several injuries and i dont think he ever achieved full potential here in DC. With the right coaches and some hard work and elbow grease he could become a great pickup for the bills. Alright blocker, needs to work on catching. I held my breathe at the end of the season when balls were thrown his way waiting to explode with a fury of explatives at the tv screen. I do think Fauria is an upgrade for us, so take that for what it is worth in terms of royal.
Chrisbob74
It should be worth noting that although Royal had that terrible game versus San Diego, he bounced back the following week versus St Louis and had an excellent game. 4 catches and a couple of them key - he has some wheels when he gets momentum going. That shows good character IMO.
andyman
If Gibbs didn't use an H-back, Royal would have been third TE on the depth chart behind Cooley and Sellars.

redskinss
robert was very inconsistent his entire career with washington. but ill tell you this after that chargers game he looked like a new man. he caught almost everything thrown at him, and he had that meen streak i love in players. when he caught the ball he would point himself down the field and barrel down on defenders like a freight train as if to say take me down if you can, kinda like what cooley does. i was very excited at his sudden transformation and was looking forward to seeing if he could carry that into the next season but i guess i wont get the chance. good luck with robert and if he plays for you like he did for us the last five games of 2005 you will have picked up one hell of a player
MidPennSkin
We replaced him with Fauria because we needed a good blocking TE. Does that tell you anything?
Redskinswhoopass
He is a Great TE.. He blocks well, And besides everyone remembering the SD game he really does have good hands, and he didn't drop a ball after that game and had a couple of long pass plays. He is good at getting in the seams and holes of the zone for 4-10 yards gains.
BossMayne80
hmm lemme see.. Robert Royal....He has very suspect hands, in my eyes he's a bit slow in the speed department oh and he let a Linebacker come in and sack our QB free of charge in one game..no lie he just let him go right passed him(Robert is looking at the Linebacker the whole time mind you....)and rape our fragile qb, his reasons for doing this confuses me to this day, there was a rumor that he at least called out to mark saying'' Hey watch out'' ???????...oh and one more thing if a team you're playing has a 5'10 175lb CB or saftey on him, make sure that you super glue the ball to Roberts chest because the hit that the lil guy will put on Royal will force a fumble..........>::note:Robert Royal is about 6'3/6'4 around 230 to 240 lbs:: other than that Royal is a pretty solid guy(lol) I really do like his character/personality off the field, but those few things that I mentioned irked me last season but i'm sure he will do just fine with your Bills, other than my list I just wrote he actually did fine with the Skins to be truthful...hope this helped. peace.. Finally
Good afternoon to the Redskins nation. My favorite team, the Buffalo Bills, recently signed your former TE Robert Royal.I honestly don't know much about him. In fact very little even though I follow football pretty closely and I am rather familiar with the Redskins. Yesterday our "new" GM Marv Levy had this to say: "He fits the style of attack that we envision," said Levy. "One of the areas where we felt that we had to perform better was along the offensive line. I don't know if there is a better blocking tight end than Robert Royal. We feel we've upgraded not just the tight end position but we feel we have helped our offensive line a lot. This is as good as a blocking tight end that I've seen." So what can you as fans tell me about Royal and what you have seen over the past 4 seasons? How good of blocker is he in the passing game? How good of a blocker is he against the blitz? How good of a blocker/strengths/weaknesses blocking for the run? How good of a receiver is he? What are his strengths and weaknesses as a receiver? Thank you very much for your input because this signing has got me scratching my head not knowing what to think. He is a good player, got good character, he blew one game for us last year with a bunch of drops however he is a solid blocker with decent hands. ItaliaMuscle
blocker good, hands bad... but he has the ability to pull a running back into the enzone! forgot which game it was last season but CP held onto Royal because he was loosing his footing and Royal dragged him about 10 yards in! was awesome, lucky but awesome! Stew
Look at his game footage agiants the Chargers. that is about as bad as it gets for him. Decent blocker.

grhqofb5
I can also remember him dropping a few in the first Giants game. He really had me pissed off for a while. However, seems like he'll pick up the check if you ever happen to meet for lunch or dinner.
speedmike
Royal was never an "excellent blocker," but he could seal gaps that does help in the running game. He did not block particularly well in passing situations. Royal was never a flashy player or a threat to defenses, so every so often he would be left in loose/no coverage and able to make a play. He's nothing special, so don't expect him to bring alot to the table, but he'll do a decent job, so you can worry about other aspects of your offense. And to your question about whether it was him or the O-line or the RBs that made Washington an above average team in rushing this past year. It was combo of the entire offense. Our WRs were actually pretty good at blocking (Still can remember Santana laying out defenders) and Cooley and Sellers did alot for us. To answer your question- it was not Robert Royal.
