2nd WR Option?

i'm not really sold on WR in the draft.... I think we should the WR need in FA and the DE in the draft.. i think its harder to develop a WR than DE

lets get a proven vet in WR..

This is a great point and historically true. Besides, I think Daniels and Wynn are much more capable of holding down fort while someone develops than Thrash and Jacobs!

Look for the skins to grab whichever WR is big and can help us over the middle. We could use help with a return specialist, but we sent our current guy over to europe, so who knows. If we cut antonio then we probably will grab Koren. I'd sooner see us drafting a corner w/ the round 2 to eventually replace springs in a couple years, and pursuing a DE in free agency. I'd like to see us trade next years first for one this year and grab Vernon Davis. Wishfull thinking though.

Mark Brunell for presiednt, 2008!:eaglesuck

Having Vernon Davis would be unbelivably, but he's a top 10 draft pick :(

I doubt we'll get Moulds, he just refused the Bills' offer, he wants more money.

Givens has bad numbers because he plays with so many other quality WR's

Burleson.. Well I really don't know

Antonio Bryant had amazing numbers and he was catching the ball from a less then average QB.

Or is it because the bills suck and have no experienced QB? I would much rather leave the bills and make less with the Skins.

For those who think the Skins will draft to fill the WR position, I don't think it will happen...very few rooks are able to contribute in their first year (esp. at selling the run/downfield blocking...which we will require our wrs to do in our offense) Since the Skins are that close to going over the top, we have to think free agency.

In terms of the free agents out there, I think Burleson fits what we need the best...a 3-year veteran who has had production (15 yds. per catch, 1000 yds/9 TDs in 2004---BEFORE he was miscast as a #1, forced to watch Culpepper throw dying ducks when the Viking O.C. left AND got injured last year).

He recieved only the minimum tender offer from the Vikings, so we won't have to overpay.

And, when he's not the #1 wr, he has produced in the past...and will be much more productive this year than any 2nd or 3rd round wr we could draft in '06.

KORO is a beast physically, & I would love to have him since he came out of rehab, but the Vikes have the right of first refusal, and they definitely want to keep him more than Burleson. KORO has said he'd prefer to stay in Minny, as well. So, it may be too expensive to get him.

Antonio is a man-child...as petulant & self centered as many #1 wrs, and he will be expected to be treated as one. Since we have Santana, I don't think he would fit in here.

Givens wants to be paid, too. Also, why would he leave being Brady's #1 target to be Brunnell's #2/3 target? Not for the chance at a ring...he's got those.

Moulds won't even restructure his $12 Million salary for the team he's been with all his career, for a team president who was his 1st coach...does anyone think we have a chance to get him near the 10 yr. vet minimum? I don't.

If anyone finds holes in my thinking, let me know, but Burleson may be a good catch for us this offseason, with a lean budget.

(he also did great for me in Fantasy football 2005. But I digress. ;-) )

We might have to extend a fairly lucrative contract to lure Koren from the vikes, but keep in mind, he is good friends with Shawn Springs and even appeared on Monday Night Live and expressed a strong interest in playing for Joe Gibbs. Plus, Minnesota is having QB issues as well as a whole new coaching staff to deal with. Washington is a dream job for a wide receiver.

If we can find a way to get Randle El we should. He would provide much needed special teams help, having two speedy wr's will be great, and he is a great passer. Can you imagine a passing threat team of brunell, portis, and randle el? saunders will have the other teams spinning in circles.

Personally, I don't care how well a receiver can pass.

I am just saying it is a good option to have, he brings more to the table than just passing as I have already stated. Seattle didn't care about his passing either, and look where that got them.

the only flaw i can see is that the skins are not going to part with a 3rd rounder for burleson, i believe.

givens will want to be paid, as you say, but so will burleson. he will want his contract redone, as moss did. i do not think it will end up being any cheaper to sign burleson and he will cost a 3rd rounder. plus, givens has been productive in the pats biggest games and is very physical and reliable inthe red zone.

the flaw with robinson is that the vikes have right of first refusal and a ton of cap room. it will take 7 days to see how it works out and i dont think the skins will want to wait that long to see if he is available.

bryant has the possibility of greatness, but is a man-child, as you say.

he is risky with both a bigtime upside and downside. i think the skins will pass.

moulds would be ideal, but as you say, he will still want a ton of money.

i do not think the skins will pay more for him than they pay for moss. it won't happen unless williams convinces everyone that he is worth the dollars.

which makes me think they may shift their sites a little lower and go after one of the next tier receivers. just like last year when they signed patten, i think they will go after a quieter signing. i believe they will go after jurevicius or perhaps mccardell. both are on the wrong side of 30 but are consummate professionals.

jurevicius, has been to the superbowl with 3 teams and has played inthe nfc east. but more importantly, jurevicius came up huge this year when 2 of the seahawk receivers went down during the season. he became the de facto number 1 for a few weeks and did not disappoint. he is tough and as the skins found out inthe playoffs, has sneaky deep speed. he will not take a mint to sign, but will take more than a 1 year deal. he will need sweet talking by saunders and gibbs to insure he is a part of the skins for more than 1 year because he does not want to move his family again if he can help it. redskin 1 will make all the difference and the skins will have to overpay a bit, but i think he would be a superb fit.

mccardell was one who got away. he is a premier mid range target, but not particularly physical. he is a lot like henry ellard, when the skins got him at the tail of his career (hopefully not like andre reed whenthe skins got him).

he is not a long range solution and would have to be coupled with a draft pick to add some youth (i love stovall !!!!) but for 1 or possibly 2 years he would supply professionalism and hopefully production.

jabbar gaffney is another possibility. he has had decent, but not spectacular numbers. playing across from andre' has limited his production as well as playing with carr. yes, he is a florida receiver, but he has been productive, so he won't be a flame out. he is also young and would not break the bank

johnny morton was cut. who knows what he has left. he has a history with saunders, so he is a possibility.

jimmy smith, might be a cap casualty. again, how much does he have left and what would he want. not very likely..

mark boerigter... would be a cheaper signing but there is no guarantee he has what it takes to step up to number 2. he has size and speed and is young. i don't think he represents a definite solution and is a outflyer.

so in the end, i think it will be likely to be jurevicius or gaffney...

Prisco and Judge seem to agree that Randle El is a bad risk for any team.

If they think that then I definitely am staying away from him if I am a GM worth his salt. I trust their opinions.

Heck! I am 100% sure Gibbs could learn alot from their teachings.

What wise men they are...and with such incredible brains!

Wait! I was thinking of Ptolemy and Jesus.

Pricko and Judge Not are idiots.

The P and J confused me.

I want Randle El!

Pryce would be a great pick up....Hes a bookend....

pryce has a history of back surgery. don't know what he has left. i do like him for what he once was (a terror) the question is what is left.

i would prefer leroi glover. been playing at or near all pro level for the past 3 or 4 years and can play both inside or onthe edge. although i do not like ex-cowboys, he has been itinerant enough so he is not exclusively theirs and he would be stoked whenever we play them. if we take him, we definitely need to spend the number 2 or 3 pick on a def end coming out. someone like tapp would be terrific.

also, sam adams and ted washington are out there again. both would give griffin some help in rotation with salavea and are total forces against the run..

i understand your point. but glover did not start out with the 'boys. he was not a draft pick of theirs, so i give him a pass.

he is a very solid player at a position of need for us.

as far as pryce is concerned, given that the broncs would prefer to keep the cleveland rejects over him says something to me. i am afraid he is not the player he once was..

i don't like randle el because of...

what he will cost

the fact that wilson became the number 2 for pitts, not randle

he catches only 50% of the balls throw to him

he is small and not particularly physical
