2 first round picks, plus Abraham will want a monster deal.

Peanuts...

They arent going to get that for him. No way in hell. As it states in the article..

While the team applied the designation last spring to prevent Abraham from departing as an unrestricted free agent, there continue to be rumors the Jets may have kept him this year in order to trade the three-time Pro Bowl performer. The practice of using the franchise tag to retain a player for a subsequent trade has become far more common in the league the last few years.

they will get a deal done for him then lift the tag, ala Trotter a few years ago.

The eagles didn't lift the tag in order to facilitate a trade, they released him in order to let him walk as a free agent.

exactly... they likely have a deal inthe works because for them to get hit with abraham's tag figure of 8 mil this year would be catastrophic for them.

they will take the best deal they can get and wish him bon voyage...

True. They only lifted the tag when no one would bite and they just wanted to part ways with him.

Jets wont do that for Abraham but they will lift the tag when (not if) they get someone to bite on a deal for him.

IMO they already have the frameworks of a deal worked out to send Abraham to the Redskins for Ramsey. Here is why...

1). They are not going to keep Abraham with that cap figure.

2). They don't have a QB

3). The new staff would like to draft a young QB a groom him behind Ramsey.

4). Ramsey has alot to prove and will probably sign for cheap.

Now we get to wait to see it unfold.

What are the chances that we deal Ramsey and Arrington to the Jets for Abraham? Or, since we'll have no money, Ramsey and our #2 for Abraham?

Dumping Arrington and Ramsey to the Jets, who could use both of them, might be the old headache(s) for a headache deal.

No- that was Champ. LA and Samuels were 2-3 in 2000 for Gilbert.

DING DING DING, that is the correct answer

Champ was who we chose after trading down in the 1999 draft. The draft picks received in the deal included the pick used to draft Arrington in 2000.

In the months before the 1999 NFL Draft, Ditka became enamored with Texas running back Ricky Williams, the Heisman Trophy winner who'd set an NCAA record for career rushing yards with the Longhorns. Ditka's remarks that he'd "trade his entire draft" for the standout runner were well-publicized; holding the #13 overall pick, the Saints would need to trade up to have a chance at selecting Williams.

They got their chance to do so when the Indianapolis Colts selected Miami running back Edgerrin James with the #4 overall pick. The Saints orchestrated a three-way trade with the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears that involved the Saints' taking Washington's #5 overall pick — and, therefore, Williams — in exchange for all the Saints' remaining 1999 draft picks and their first- and third-rounders in 2000.

This site has a good break down of how the Ricky Williams deal played out.

Washington's then-general manager Charlie Casserly gave up the fifth selection in the first round of the 1999 draft that Mike Ditka used on Ricky Williams for all six of Iron Mike's picks that year (1-12, 3-71, 4-107, 5-144, 6-179 and 7-218) plus 1st and 3rd-round choices in 2000 that became the 2nd and 64th overall.
