Can Brunell play through Gibbs's contract...

I don't see him playing past next season. Not only *should* Cambell be ready to step in, iirc Brunell's contract is rather heavily backloaded. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it might be tough to keep him around.

If there is any one guy on the team right now that would definitely restructure his contract to help the team out, it would be Mark Brunell.

Trust me, Brunell's contract will be fine should he maintain this level of play over the next few years. He can restructure the deal, taking more upfront money which will amortize across a new extended term.

It's very similar to refinancing your home loan, extending the term back to 30 years but now your monthly payments (salary cap hit) are lower.

I think some are really under estimating Campbell's ability. He is VERY accurate with a stronger arm and more mobility with GREAT pocket presence. He is better than Ramsey right now and after this season he will have a good understanding of the offense. It would not suprise me one bit if there is a battle for the QB position next year. Brunell is doing great and I think he could do great next year but I also think Campbell has a very serious chance of beating him out of the position next year.

The Ideal scenario would be for Brunell to play well enough to get us a Lombardi trophy this or next season. Then he walks into the sunset and Campbell takes over. Ramsey brings in a 2nd round pick that we use on a pass rushing specialist for the DL. In the meantime, the QB we draft in the mid rounds of the upcoming draft becomes an effective backup for us after Brunell leaves.;)

 I agree that his legs might go in a couple of years, but as long as his arm and his dicision making stays in tact...maybe he could stay as long as Gibbs plans to. But like you said...who really knows?

He already looks like an old man when he runs now, reminds me of Bruce Smith in his last year with us.

I would speculate that he has another 1 maybe 2 seasons as starter at which point Jason Campbell will have had time to mature, learn the offense and take over the reins.

Of course this is the NFL and Brunnell, like very other player out there, is one snap away from the end of his career.

Got to love the way he has come back from last year though. He must be a lock for a Pro Bowl spot at this stage along with Santana Moss. Been a while since we had a skill position Pro Bowl player ......

Huge game this week against the Giants - got to build on the momentum.

how long can gibbs program brunells mind until brunells physics really start to fatigue.. i remember mark rypien never ran the ball.. all about pass protection as our q/bs get older.. if he starts to slow down, theres jason campbell or pat ramsey.. no need for worries..after gibbs leaves that when the worries kicks in.. OH OH
