I know we all built ourselves up into believing this was a great destination, but clearly the market said otherwise. We still have a crap stadium filled with opposing fans, crap facilities and a crap roster. Much of that won’t be fixed until at least the next coach gets hired. Beyond that, I think it says that these young guns don’t see a slam dunk QB prospect available either.

I don’t even really think he pays for it. If he goes out and leads a prolific offense again, folks will likely be interested again. Likely not to the extent they were a few days ago, but interest none the less. There’s only but so many guys to choose from. For me though, his actions definitely make me question if he’s the alpha dog you want as a head coach. We are likely to eventually find out.

Of course nobody would be saying anything bad about him, because we’d have no reason to…yet. But choosing to do what he did in the manner in which he did it, absolutely provides a glimpse into the side of him that was in question- the personal side. Everyone wanted him because he appears sharp as a whip and a great offensive mind. But that doesn’t always translate to being a great head coach.

If they would have made a hire prior to Ben Johnson being available, this place would have rioted. Ben Johnson could and should have been candidate #1. The teams that hired offensive guys earlier knew they had no chance at him. Full due diligence requires you wait until your top target is available. Macdonald apparently had his sights set on Seattle. It’s a damning reality for us. I cannot blame Peters or Harris or anyone else for where our org sits today. They can sell a dream, a realistic one at that - but much of what they can promise won’t come to fruition for years. Years for an NFL coach are like dog years. The fact of the matter is we likely need a guy like Quinn, a respected, grizzled vet to steward this team through this period and turn us into a more attractive option down the line. Sad, but true.

I only used Maye as the example because it feels like a foregone conclusion that Williams is off the board. Maye and Daniels though, while coaches for sure haven’t done a deep dive - I feel like if they were thought of as highly as many make them out to be, that would be a reason to want to coach here.

I must admit, this is a new low for this fanbase. Perhaps it’s still just the lingering effects of being abused for so long. But it’s laughable to watch some of you guys jump off a cliff, because you think that you know better than the guys doing the interviewing. Guys who have literally been part of so much success, not just some regular dudes. And I say this as a guy who is disappointed with how this has all shaken out.

I’m in this weird spot where I feel like I should be grateful considering all we’ve been through. To get rid of Dan, hire a guy like Peters, have the #2 pick and a ton of cap space is really fairy-tale like. Adding a brilliant offensive mind to develop the QB we select at 2 just felt so right and in alignment with all of that. While I feel like we dodged a bullet, because Johnson clearly isn’t head coach material- I still can’t help but feel negative because of where we sit now. I’m not even of the mindset that Quinn is Ron 2. I really like a lot of what I’ve read about Quinn and who he is as a man and coach. As much as a lot of you don’t want to hear it, he is highly regarded by former and current players. What I think separates him from many retreads is his own acknowledgment of where he went wrong in his first stint and how he was going to learn from that. Most coaches ego won’t allow them to be that honest with themselves. But at the end of the day, we are still getting stuck with scraps right now from an overall staff standpoint and the thought of drafting a QB without an elite coach to develop said QB is enough that it’s just hard for me to be thankful about how fortunate we’ve been over the last year to rid ourselves of Dan and Ron. It’s not fair to HOG and Peter’s, but I just can’t shake it.

To willfully choose to remain a #2, for the second season in a row, seems rather beta to me. There’s really nothing wrong with that either. Perhaps OC is where he belongs and he recognizes that. Hes a really good one or else we wouldn’t have wanted him. But to lead everyone on and bail at this time is a **** move.

Agreed. I think we’ve all had those “if they pay me X, I’d take the Y position” talks with our family and friends before. I gather he’s happy being and X’s and O’s guy and when things got real about being a head guy, he got cold feet. Not a trait that I want in a head coach. Still hate this guy forever and a day for putting us in this situation.

I know this sounds like a lover scorned trying to convince himself the girl who doesn’t want him really ain’t 💩 anyways. But, the last thing I want is a head coach that would do this. No matter what it is: unprecedented demands, lack of confidence in himself as a leader of men, whatever. None of it is what you want out of your head guy. I’d have no ill-will for him had he not led us on for weeks. But we are now in a bad place. Every O coach minus Slowik has been hired, staffs have been filled out. The pickings are slimmer, all because we waited for a wishy washy dude.

I know it comes across like a spurned lover, and it’s partly that- because waiting on him likely put us behind the 8 ball. But I actually look at it from the perspective that we may have dodged a bullet. Anyone complacent enough to continue being 2nd fiddle AGAIN, or if rumors are true wants an unprecedented amount of money to coach, those are red flags for me.
