  1. A bit of hyperbole, sure. But the point is Daniels hasn’t proven he can operate at a high level with subpar surrounding talent. Maye has. I know you may not agree with this point, but I do think Daniels is a bit lacking when it comes to anticipatory throws, and I don’t think it’s primarily due to the offense he was in. More often than not, he needs to see his receivers come open before he throws it. That will mean he’ll need longer in the pocket (better protection) and receivers who can consistently separate at a high level. Otherwise, I don’t have much hope the offense will be able to consistently move the chains. It’ll take a lot more than a pass catching RB. Yes.
  2. It’s a scale. I think the “need” for great protection and WRs is higher with Daniels than it would be with Maye. But yes, both are priorities regardless.
  3. If we do take Daniels, we should draft OL and WR in every round. Build the most stacked offense possible and recreate what he had in his one great college season.
  4. My gut is telling me Schefty and others are setting up the Daniels slide to be the “story” on draft day. How “reports said” he was going 2nd overall but teams weren’t as high on him as “the public” thought. Gotta find an angle to keep casuals tuned in on draft day.
  5. The problem is first place votes were given 5 points and second place votes were given 3 point for some reason…? Daniels received 3 first place votes, likely not from any GMs. Maye didn’t receive any - I think most people high on Maye still realize Williams is better. Whereas Daniels fans are so enamored by what makes him special that they are willing to place him above the almost unanimous QB1. There were also only 5 GMs (current and former) out of 17. If Standig had given GMs a higher weighting than the other titles, I am confident Maye vs. Daniels would have been much tighter and am guessing that Maye would have come out ahead.
  6. What’s interesting is if you ignore everything in that article but the opinions of the GMs, my read is that Maye comes out ahead at QB2. Ultimately, those are the opinions that matter most and should be weighted accordingly.
  7. I fully admit I'll be disappointed if we draft Daniels over Maye. I'd learn to accept it, but it would be such a Washington move to pass on Maye and watch him become a top 5 QB with the Patriots, whose fans only had to suffer through *checks Google*... 4 years of bad QB play after having the GOAT on their team for two decades.
  8. If he has some new information whenever the piece below comes out, this is probably the case. I've seen him nail a few Patriots-related news items before others as well.
  9. If this is sarcasm, I think you’re missing my point. Yes, there has been discussion that Maye had it worse than Daniels when it comes to situation. But IMO, there hasn’t been nearly enough discussion regarding just how wide the disparity actually was and the fact that it’s not just when compared to Daniels, but compared to all of his peers.
  10. This hasn’t been discussed enough, IMO: Let’s be real. The level of talent Maye had to play with vs. all of his peers is a legitimate chasm. This relative talent disparity he dealt with was obviously going to lead to some questionable decision-making on occasion. Yet his turnover-worthy play rate was still on par with his peers. Wish people would stop box score scouting and/or magnifying correctable flaws when it comes to Maye.
  11. Good article. Maye's grade isn't as low as I expected when I first read the headline and the QB coaches agree with many in this thread that his mechanics/footwork issues are largely fixable: https://theathletic.com/5390475/2024/04/09/nfl-draft-quarterbacks-mechanics-rankings-grades/ Which of the NFL Draft’s top QBs has the best mechanics? Experts grade each passer To add some informed opinions about the mechanics of this year’s top quarterback prospects, I got some of the top private quarterback coaches in the country to rate and comment on how Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix and Spencer Rattler throw the ball. They will remain anonymous because they have worked with some of the discussed prospects in some capacity and could in the future. They graded efficiency, speed, adaptability and overall mechanics on a scale of 1-5. I averaged their overall grades for a final grade. Efficiency is the ability to transfer force from their hips, speed is how quick their release is, and adaptability is how well they can adjust their mechanics to overcome external factors. The overall grade isn’t a cumulative score of the other three categories but just a grade on the quarterback’s overall mechanics that could include factors outside of the listed categories. These grades are strictly for mechanics, which doesn’t correlate with an overall grade for a quarterback. Playing quarterback involves many factors other than mechanics. This article focuses on only one element of quarterback play, one often rife with conjecture. • 1 – Problematic • 2 – Will take a lot of work to fix • 3 – Fixable • 4 – Good • 5 – Excellent
  12. I don’t think we should draft him at #2 regardless. Just take Maye. But if he’s really our preferred choice, I wouldn’t let his social media comments stop me from drafting him.
  13. He wants the Raiders, apparently. Not surprising, and it doesn’t really matter, but not a good move to say it publicly. Gonna have to try to find the clip later. Also, lol at BTJ’s reaction to joining the Bills. My guess is it’s due to living in Buffalo.
  14. I agree. Though I do think they'd be more likely to trade down than us given they have one less high impact alternative option on their decision tree than we do.
  15. Maybe, I just recall hearing it from an old interview. Not gonna go down the rabbit hole to look for it so I'll concede the point.
  16. It would put GMAP and Quinn under an extremely bright spotlight. Won’t call it a hot seat, but man, they would need to pray Maye busts and Daniels balls out.
  17. Well yeah, it would be weird not to agree with this take. I agree. We've seen previous versions of the rumor below, but this is coming from an NFCE beat guy. And the quarterback who might tempt them to do that is North Carolina's Drake Maye. He is the prospect who could most entice the Giants to make a blockbuster move up from No. 6, according to multiple NFL sources familiar with the Giants' thinking. With USC's Caleb Williams almost certain to be taken by the Chicago Bears at No. 1, the 21-year-old Maye is believed by many around the NFL to be the next quarterback on the Giants' list. In fact, one league source said he believes that if Maye somehow gets past the Washington Commanders at No. 2 — which is far from a certainty — the Giants would consider making an aggressive offer to the New England Patriots to move up from No. 6 to No. 3 to draft him. It's not clear if New York would be willing to do the same for LSU's Jayden Daniels or Michigan's J.J. McCarthy, the other two top quarterbacks likely to be available at that spot. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/2024-nfl-draft-would-giants-trade-up-for-a-qb-maybe-if-that-qb-is-drake-maye
