  1. I saw this with AVT being picked directly after us at 20. Given the positional flex of AVT our staff might like him more. Provides various options for our left side between AVT and Charles.
  2. I'm pleasantly surprised with the restraint. Last off-season we signed a slew of 1 year prove it deals. The coaching staff and roster were new to each other. The approach this year is strategic as the focus has been primary areas of need based on last years results and our coaching staff/front office roster building strategy. I wouldn't expect much else aside from our draft picks, undrafted free agents, and bargain vets when we get closer to training camp. My main focus is now on the draft! Heading to that thread now...
  3. Love the Fitz move. All options are open including a QB. On defense we are a LB and DB (free safety or corner) from being elite. On offense any position could use an immediate upgrade or future long term starter. I will be happy for some depth upside signings and I'm thrilled we won't force it via the draft. We should walk away with some talent with 4 picks in the first three rounds.
  4. I like this so far. I didn't want Darby back even at that price. A cheap 1 year CB on a prove it deal; same as we did last year is all we need and we obviously draft a DB this year probably any round after the 1st would be fair game. The Jags and Jets havent spent much either right? I imagine they soak up some names. We still should be good with the 2nd tier WR, TE and LBs.
  5. I bought it because I will never forget that game. Regardless on how his career is from here on out.
  6. Good question. My opinion is mostly shaped on the eye test and the few games I've watched of each and what I remember about them coming out of college. Tribusky from what I understand doesn't throw the ball downfield very much. I remember a chart they pulled during the Saints playoff loss and everything was around the line of scrimmage..screens and check downs with a few QB designed runs. Greg Cosell often jumps on The Herd and he has breakdowns on how Tribusky struggles to throw the deep ball and is essentially a front foot thrower. Darnold from what I understand is more willing and able to throw the ball downfield. I know your stats show a similar yards per attempt so what I'm seeing may not be actually true; However my view is Darnold is a gunslinger who is prone to turnovers(interceptions and fumbles). Combine that with the narrative of being under Adam Gase who is not highly thought of as an offensive coach well atleast during his Jets years. Compared to Tribusky who has a coach that is more respected in that regard. Tribusky to me is an athlete playing qb and Darnold is a qb who is athletic. The Heinicke experience has also shaped my perspective on this. Heinicke proved that this offense is more then dink and dunk. He successfully executed and attempted(drops) passes that were downfield. I want that ability in my QB not another dink and dunk artist. The Heinicke game, Alex Smith vs Detroit, Haskins to Terry (Ravens game), Kyle Smith to Terry(Dallas game) is the only time I can remember where we pushed the ball down field. This is what made Stafford so appealing and now Derek Carr.
  7. I would have offered a 1st and 3rd for Stafford. I would now offer the same for Carr. I agree with those who have him a peg below Stafford but Carr is 29. His cap hit the next two years seems reasonable as well.
  8. He fits the criteria of a buy low good upside option. What would it take to get him? 3rd round pick? I like the idea of a former high round pick(talent) still young with a chip on their shoulder. Obviously he adds the mobility that we covet. A bigger, stronger, faster version of Allen and Heinicke. You could have them all compete and barring injury the show rolls on. Of the lower tier options I like: 1) Mariota 2) Darnold 3) Tyrod/Trubisky
  9. Kj Wright on a 2 year stop gap. Still draft a second day LB. I would hope Samuel would be the cheapest, youngest, upside WR we could get. Everything Steven Sims was supposed to be and more.
  10. Thank you. This post was a reminder of the Bruce and Doug press conferences and that era of the Washington front office. I know most are underwhelmed by our recent changes. Take 30 seconds and compare our front office to then and now. Ron, Mayhew and Marty are a clear upgrade to what we had just 12 months ago. This isn't just potential and pedigree. We won the NFC east this year. We are now a QB and only a couple of pieces on offense and defense from being a contender. That was not the prevailing opinion just 12 months ago.
  11. Overpay. 1st and 3rd for Matthew Stafford ( I would also pay for Dak Prescott if available). Plan B..draft Qb in the 3rd..compete with Heinicke and Allen. Continue to reinforce roster and get our QB next year.
  12. Resign Scherff. Let Darby walk. He isn't shut down and we could get similar play from a less heralded cb due to our line. Im of the mindset better downhill LB play will force more 2nd and 3rd and long situations. That combined with our dline..minimizes the impact of the cb. Draft a CB in the 3rd or 4th and maybe resign Fabian for the low.
  13. I figured Kyle Smith was 2-3 years away from getting the GM position. Just last year he received a promotion and increased responsibility. To make another leap so quickly seemed premature and this was validated by the lack of interviews he had for other openings. With two additional successful drafts under his watch which would coincide with our team winning on the field. That combination would lead to another rebuilding franchise trying to acquire his talent as they rebuild. I never read to much into him not getting an interview for the GM position because in all reality he has been interviewing since Ron arrived. The conversations, meetings and performance has been on display very clearly to Ron... just not to us as there appears to be a grey area on who did exactly what. Last night I went to bed with the thought that even with Martin and Marty on board that Kyle could stay. My thought was in another year or two he could elevate to the assistant GM position which remains open and if necessary Marty retires, Martin takes the Exec VPP role and Kyle would take over as GM. Same voices in the room, Kyle gets groomed..everyone is happy with titles etc. Also we need to consider Ron has a five year contract and we appear close. He doesn't want to babysit and groom; if Kyle were to remain with the organization that long then it would be on Ron's second contract that the above scenario would come to fruition. Apparently I was naive..but I'm also not going to get all bent out of shape for someone who we don't know how much or little were able to accomplish. I still figure he should be aiming for the asst GM role in the next year or two after learning from Martin and Marty. Then he could secure the GM position here or somewhere else and have the requisite experience and track record to do so.
  14. I agree with this take. I like option B Matthew Stafford. For cap purposes less money at the Qb position which allows us to retain most of our own. Less draft capital given up to keep our farm system healthy. Gives us the ability to win now and still win later. Buying us time to find a qb 4-5 years from now.
  15. @Wildbunny Yes they are and I just ordered one. That was the most fun I've had watching our team play in a long time and especially on offense. For that reason alone the shirt is worth it, regardless on how his career plays out moving forward.
  16. As you know I like the potential of Stafford on this team. What would you be comfortable giving up?
