  1. I wouldn't mind it for the last two games. It's hard to evaluate anyone else on the offense if the QB is in full meltdown mode.
  2. With the 7th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Washington Commanders select...
  3. I know! I thought it was near halftime, and it was still the first quarter.
  4. I'm struggling to think of any time that I've seen the Washington franchise play worse than they are today. Sad.
  5. I hadn't realized that. Yeah, you'd have to say it worked out for the Dolphins. Maybe not so much for the Colts!
  6. That would be awesome. Personally, I don't think they'll be able to address both QB and franchise LT in the same year. Hopefully, they'll be able to make the OL better overall even if it doesn't have "the guy" yet.
  7. Obviously, the drafting has to improve no matter what. You don't generally get your franchise LT after the first round, but the other positions typically get drafted after the first. Between the draft and all that cap room, I expect the OL to be significantly better next year. That's where I'd put some of my FA emphasis.
  8. Has trading for a coach ever worked out? The only time that might qualify would be the Bucs trading for Jon Gruden and then immediately winning the title. He did it with Dungy's players, though, and never got close to that again. It's just as likely the Bucs would have won that year with Dungy, anyway, because that team was amazing. And yes, trading for Tomlin would be a quintessential Danny Boy move. I see nothing in the record supporting the idea that Josh would do that. He's going to want a fresher, analytics-focused hire.
  9. It might actually make Nix more ready to start Week 1. The concern would be that he's already closer to his ceiling. I agree that an additional year of age probably doesn't make a huge difference. It's different than that Carolina guy (name escapes me) who didn't enter the league until he was 25 or so.
  10. At this point, I'm going to punt (hopefully a good one) and say that there is good potential either way the Commanders choose to go--staying with Sam and building the team first, or spending some draft capital to bring in one of the top 3 picks (I don't predict they'll have a top 3 pick on their own). There is history out there of success going either route. What matters most is that we have great people making those decisions and coaching up the resulting team.
  11. I see your point, but the retire/fired distinction is critical for Ron, both in terms of him getting all the pay he's due next year and for him to be able to coach in the future if he wants to. If he retires, the Commanders would hold his rights in perpetuity for that additional year and would be able to demand compensation from any team that wanted to hire him. Since everyone's going to know it's really a firing anyway, Ron gains nothing by doing a fake retirement. What I do see happening is Ron and Josh agreeing on a joint statement that respects both sides. I doubt it'll be that tough. Josh would look bad by disrespecting Ron, regardless.
  12. Matt Leinart, Sam Darnold, AND Mark Sanchez--just to name the recent busts. We don't even have to mention Vince Young and Todd Marinovich. I was being at least somewhat facetious, as I hope you can tell. I have no idea whether Caleb will be any good or not. What little I've seen in the press does seem to indicate some classic USC ego, though.
  13. He is, and I wonder why. Are the measurables not there? Could be because he'd transferred out of the SEC and is already 23 due to some Covid-related eligibility quirks. Rating college QBs is so tough for me because I don't watch enough CFB to know, and the college game seems so much freewheeling and designed for QBs to put up ridiculous numbers.
  14. Just my impressions, but the difference seemed significant to me--and I wasn't expecting that going in, since Penix was more hyped. I don't follow Oregon or CFB enough to be that knowledgeable. Oregon and Washington were basically equal--UO lost the first game on a stupid coaching decision. Washington had a better running game than Oregon, which balanced out Oregon's better QB play in the games I watched. I'm mad at Oregon for bolting the PAC-12 and leaving OSU behind, so I'm just about ready to abandon CFB altogether. That's off-topic, though...
  15. . Getting the super-duper-star is literally the ONLY way to win an NBA championship--heck it seems like you need more than one, now. Plus, there are never more than about 4-5 of those in the NBA at any given time, seemingly. It makes it very hard to care about the NBA unless you happen to be a fan of one of those teams. Star QBs rule the NFL, but not to the same degree.
  16. The history of USC quarterbacks in the NFL is what scares me about Williams, more than anything. I'm an Oregon alum and didn't watch any CFB but a few UO games this year, but I have to say that Bo Nix looked way more impressive head-to-head versus Michael Penix. More accurate and better decision-making.
  17. My assumption is that Sweat was unhappy and that the Commanders didn't think they'd be able to resign him, period. Sort of like what happened with Cousins. This time, at least they got good compensation instead of letting him walk. It's a shame, but this team is going to be so different over the next couple years that I'm not invested in any one particular player anymore.
  18. I don't know. Josh McDaniels and other Belichick guys keep getting opportunities despite repeated catastrophic failures. Never underestimate the continued ability of NFL barnacles to keep attaching themselves to teams. I'd say it's more likely that Ron decides to call it day.
  19. But that's what I assume Shen was brought in to do and I assume *is* doing right now. If you mean whether the coaching staff is evaluating him, then I agree. They're probably all working on their own highlights packages right now!
