  1. You're forgetting 1989 ... that team would have made the postseason using today's rules. Final series against the Jays was essentially a playoff series, having to take 2 out of 3, but lost the first two. Dang Mark Williamson ... Same goes for a few of those early 90s teams, borderline playoff teams who would have made it with the new rules. Baseball is like hockey in that regular season only really matters for making the playoffs. Then its about this nebulous "playoff magic". You don't need to be "dominant", there's really not much difference between a .600 team and .550 team.
  2. Late game just got finished up. Bautista's K/9 must be like 20.
  3. Let this be a lesson, bullpen games don't work. Wasted opportunity as we tagged Justin Bieber for 7 runs. Why couldn't they bring in a legit starter?
  4. Ouch, but maybe Cowser gets called up? OPS > 1.000 in Norfolk
  5. Bats have really cooled off. Just 8 runs over the last 4 games.
  6. McKenna pitched a better 9th than Grayrod's 4th. In fact I think his ERA in the game was better This makes me wonder why the team with the huge lead doesn't have a position player pitch the 9th as well. If they start sucking too much they can always put in a real reliever
  7. I mean Peralta would have hit a fan were it not for the netting so ...
  8. Orioles Win! Orioles Win! Orioles Win! Orioles Win!
  9. An 8 run 7th to get back on top, 9-5 🙂 Last night game sucked, maybe get revenge here.
  10. I rally didn’t think the back end of our bullpen was going to be able to pull that off
  11. Its good we won that because our bullpen is used up. Baker, Cano and Bautista should be on a day of rest. So tomorrow would need a very strong start from Kremer. And we face former Oriole Kevin Gaussman Speaking of which, are these guys like cousins or something? Kremer Gaussman
  12. Nice rally. Trailing 5-2 , a 3 run homer by O'Hearn in the 8th and then two shutdown innings by Cano and Bautista to get to extras. Bottom of the 9th I was convinced we were done when Kiermaier got to second with no outs and Springer, Bichette and Guerrero were up, but Bautista shut them down with a short flyout and 2 Ks. Then some small ball in the 10th and we're up 6-5. Bautista strikes out the side which gave him 5 Ks in two innings.
  13. Well the relief pitching was good enough to win, and its not like they got totally rocked. I think most teams would kill to have a bullpen as good as ours. Once you get past most teams top three or four relievers, you have a couple of replacement-type, 4-5 ERA players at best. So they're gonna give up runs occasionally. Also Givens and Tate should be back soon. Another win tonight, Tyler Wells went 7 with only 1 hit allowed along with 8 Ks, but was saved in the 7th by Santander grabbing what looked like a 3-run homerun after walking two batters.
  14. We don't know what the peace settlement is going to look like quite yet. I would agree that it is already strategic failure, in that they did not achieve the collapse of the Ukrainian government as they expected. However there is the possibility that Ukraine would not be able to expel Russia completely from the occupied territories and may settle for a ceasefire which Putin could spin as win. Germany invading Russia in 1941 and Napoleon doing the same thing in 1812 might top this. Russia invading Finland in 1940 was also a total fiasco, although they eventually got Finland to concede territory, it was such a disaster it led to "purges" in the Red Army.
  15. Coulombe with an electric relief performance (2Ks on 7 pitches) to keep it 2-1 Os, now headed to the 9th.
  16. Looks like stubhub has plenty of seats < $15 for tonights game. Of course that is before the extortion fees...
  17. I caught the last three innings Stowers made a goof in right field which turned a single into a double in the 8th. Apparently took his eyes off the ball and peaked at the runner. Cano was then switched out for Bautista with two outs. Bautista unfortunately continues to throw wild pitches and walk batters, and struggles to hold the runner. I'm not sure why Hyde thinks he's a good option with runners on. Thankfully no damage done tonight as he got the 4-out save.
  18. That ones on Hyde. Starting Henderson, Stowers and McCann in the same game, a combined 0-12 today. With the inherited runner, I would have kept Cano in as he was dealing. Or at least, you have Bautista pitch the 9th. He's not so great with runners on because of his wild pitches, and that was the reason why the Braves were able to tie it up in the 10th. Then you can have Cano close out the 10th
  19. Henderson for some reason got promoted to cleanup, while Hays bats 5th. Henderson strikes out with bases loaded to end the inning, next inning Hays gets a singled (followed by Frazier double) Having Stowers and Henderson both start is almost like conceding the game. Also Mateo is sitting the bench Some questionable lineup decisions by Hyde
  20. Figure the bullpen was going to drop one at some point. Ah well, on to tomorrow. Wondering what Henderson has done to deserve batting 5th.
  21. Fox broadcast, big crowd at Fulton. Announcers said this has the feel of a playoff game, I think I agree. 4-3 Os headed to the bottom of the 8th.
  22. So its only immediate family? I thought also that they basically get to decide who counts. So Harry and Meghan aren't "royals" anymore. Similar to Edward VIII. But assuming they don't do this, and also speaking only of the paternal line, at what point does "legitimate issue" of the younger sons cease being "royal"? I understand that back in the middle ages France did some pretty crazy stuff, finding a male heir in a distant cousin, to prevent the King of England from inheriting the throne, which kicked off the 100 years war ...
