  1. If Macdonald is off the board, given what I've heard and read reacently I think I'd put Glenn over quinn and Weaver. (sp...laugh why do I keep typing his name as WAver... my fingers are too cold this morning)

But its hard to judge what the new group is doing absent any history in the football arena on choices like this.  ANything we post is speculation at this point

You know, that last post was a joke.

You are bad and this is dumb and you shouldn't post any longer. I now mean every word.

My post was also a Joke.  Some of you are so bound up in your Dan Quinn hate that you need to loosen up and breathe, it will be better for your health. I don't see any reason at all that we'd try to acquire Dak.  But I wouldn't put past this FO trading for someone else or signing a FA.  None of that matters until you know who the HC and OC is though. Be patient folks.

This list is stupid and often wrong and I don't think you know football history at all and you are bad and should probably not post any longer because this is dumb and bad and dumb.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_head_coaches

I took those names mostly from this list and the article I saw from Reid I mis read while skimming the bit on Gruden here's what actually happened.
    https://www.deseret.com/sports/2021/2/3/22262460/andy-reid-among-distinguished-group-of-fired-coaches-who-landed-future-teams-in-the-super-bowl
"Let’s study the Raiders’ dealings with coaches as an example of foolishness. They hired Jon Gruden as their head coach in 1998. In four seasons he had a won-loss record of 38-26 and in his third and fourth seasons he took the Raiders to the playoffs, including the conference championships in 2000. So what do the Raiders do? They traded him to the Buccaneers for two first-round draft picks, two second-round draft picks and $8 million."

I don't know WHY i thought he was the raiders HC in the SUper Bowl, I completely forgot about Calahan even though it was there in the wiki article I was looking at after I read the first article. It was an honest mistake, you guys should show more grace. My point is, not every loser makes it back to the Super Bowl, but a few special ones do and win, and so I'm not prepared to rull out Quinn just because of that.

Gruden beat the Raiders with the Bucs, he wasn't the HC of the Raiders.

Also, most of those guys lost a Super Bowl before winning one later with their same team. They weren't retreads.

The retreads that lost with their original team and then won with a new team: Bellicheck, Carroll, Dungy, Vermeil, and Reid.

Three defensive guys, two offensive guys FWIW. But all of them ended up with HOF caliber QBs on their 2nd team: Brady, Wilson, Manning, Warner, and Mahomes.

So I guess, if Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels are THAT good, then we can win with a defensive coach....

Yeah I just looked up and didn't realize Glenn was over 50. Yeesh. Nevermind on him then.

    Weaver is my pick now.

Good catch there I must have misread an article that suggested he did, but I guess he was OC there.

  5. So here's a crazy thought, what if Dallas lets quinn go and then Washington offers to take Dak, and extend him for 3-4 years, for a swap of first round picks?

We do have some cap space. (I think its more likely we sign a FA like Cousins, but...all i've heard on spots radio since yesterday is that Daks no trade clause is hurting the 'teams chemistry' they can't wait to see Dak extended. and no I'm not arguing for this, at all.)

This was meant in humor.  We seem to be falling apart because our supposed top coach (told to us by 'national' personalities) tucked his tail and went back to Detroit.  The national shows the last 12 hours spent barely any time on our HC situation, apparently still enamored with the drama in Dallas, hence why I was suggesting, maybe we need a bit of perspective.  I'm sorry if it offended anyone, it was meant as levity, but got taken seriously.

  6. THere have been several coaches who choked in a super bowl and later won.  Note among them includes the Chiefs HC: Andy Reid

    • Bill Belichick (although I doubt he takes a 2nd team to a victory just because of history)
    • Pete Carol (see Belichick)
    • Tony Dungy (Bucs then Colts)
    • JohnG ruden (Raiders then Bucs)
    • Dick Vermeil (Lost with Phily in 1980, Won in st Louis in 99)
    • Don Shula lost to the Jets, and Cowboys before winning 2 with the Dolphins.
    • Tom Landry (Lost with the Cowboys to the Colts, before winning the next year)
    • Bill Cowher lost to the Cowboys before WInning over the Mike Holmgren Seaahawks.
    • Sean McVay lost to the Chiefs before winning over the Bengals a few years later.

So let's not presume that a loss in the super bowl necessarily means no chance in the future.

  7. We need tos top being gloomers.  So what if we didn't get who the media thought we'd pick.  Who cares what they think?

    Here's the reality:

This team was historically bad on Defense
We struggled on offense due to the slow growth of Howell, a lack of a Run Game, and pass block break downs.

Even though we fixed some of the blocking issues, that doesn't mean it is solved.   We have a lot of spots to fill in the offseason.  This team feels like it needs a tossing, and it may be that we need 2-3 years to really get back to being a solid team.  We might need more than one BAD year in a row.  So if that's the case, and we end up with a brief caretaker even if it means finding another coach in 2-3 years so what?

    We are overselling ourselves.

    We always overvalue our talent.

We have multiple players who are not resigned for next year who may not be signed back

If this team doesn't land the elite talent they hoped for, in part because there wasn't an elite on the market, that is not the owner or Peters fault.  So if they come to that realization.  They still need to hire a Head Coach, they need a leader, and they need someone that may develop assistants, and that will make sure players are developed too.  TO me those are the key issues.  I wouldn't care if they Hired a hamster if he can lead and develop his team and staff.

  8. One more thing I'll add At the moment if I were choosing I'd go in this order

    • MacDonald
    • Quinn
    • Glenn
    • Weaver

AFter that I think you reopen and restart the process, because if those are all misses, you need to rethink what you want and what you can expect for the next 3 years, and it may be we need a caretaker for a couple of years, and if so, then We don't take QB at #2 we resign brisette and keep Sam.    And rebuild the other positions, and come back next year.

Quinn is…fine. But hed be such a disappointment after finally getting rid of Snyder and landing Peters as Gm. Its like getting out of jail with $10 Mil but finding out you have to live in Milwaukee.

I'm actually warming up to Quinn.  Some thoughts came into mind?  WHo is more responsible for Dallas's ineptitude?  Is it QUinn? Is it McCarthy?  Or is it Jerrah?

We all KNOW its Jerrah.  The fact that so many pointed out how few actual linebackers they had and mulitple DB sets against GB a team that could run a little, it was obviously a flawed way to build a team, and yet look at how good they were at times, other than Diggs, Parsons and some Vets on their D Line, name one other real name player on that Defense?

So if you fix the OL just enough, and invest heavily into the Defense in the next two years, imagine what he could do, alongside his chosen DC?

I still prefer MacDonald but they are 2a and 2b for me now that Johnson and Raheem are out of the picture.

Probably just got himself another raise from Detroit. Below is from last year.

Johnson’s salary in 2022, his first season as a coordinator, is publicly unknown. Coordinators generally earn around $1M-$1.5M per season, though that varies with experience level and team.

Just to put this into perspective. I think Ron rivera made somewhere around 8.5 Mil for this debacle of a season.

If he was only given a few hundred thousand, or even a million more than that?  Talk about not valuing money.

Not only that, does he expect Detroit to compete year around in a conference with LaFleur/Jordan Love's Packers?

Chicago could turn around too with a few changes.

on the TE list and a guy who was really good in Miami but for whatever reason really didn't do anything in NE this past season is Mike Gesicki, I think he's a guy who in terms of price could be a bit cheaper compared to a Shultz (who I think resigns w/Texans anyhow) and as far the back up QB's are concerned depending on the new HC or OC I actually wouldn't mind bringing in Sam Darnold specially over any of those mentioned names except for Brisett (who is my 1st choice) or Minshew,  but again I could see him resigning w/Colts cause Anthony Richardson style of play calls for alot of missed games imho and they need someone like Gardner who knows that Offense like the back of his hand

The only name I'd also consider is Mason Rudolph, but there's a chance Pittsburgh Retains him.

TE free agency class looks awful. Looking for Peters to pull a mid round gem out of the hat.

I think it looks mid, its not a lot of elite guys, but these guys are likely better than everyone we have except for Logan Thomas, who I anticipate being a cut.

As for the draft, I think there are a few good tight ends.  The issue is not whether there are tight ends in the draft.  There is only 1 First round worthy TE in bowers, who we won't take due to more pressing concerns, and then after the Ohio State fellow, you have 3-5 solid mid rd 3-5 Pick worthy guys, after that It's likely a crap shoot.  There aren't enough Tight Ends coming out to rely on picking up someone there so we need to add someone in Free agency.  TO ensure we have what we need I think

  12. When does this thraed lock and the 2024 free agent tracker open?

I was just looking at possible free agents at the Tight End position, and tehre are a few names you will all recognize I'm sure, and Some which well won't be.

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/tight-end/all/

Some taht jumped out t ome:

    Hunter Hentry
    Dalton Shultz
    Mike Gesicki
    Noah Fant
    Austin Hooper
    Robert Tonyan, Jr
Marcedes Lewis? Wow Sportstrac says he is 39 older than Jimmy Graham who's 37, and I was shocked to see his name as still playing.
    Irv Smith
    Ross Dwelley (49er)
    Kenny Yeboah
    Drew Sample
    and others

Several of these are between 29-low 30s so figure you get one contract out of them, but given we haven't gotten as much out of the TE production, something to consider as there aren't a lot of projected high TE draft picks, and even if we do draft one, it likely be day 3.

The conversation about QB in all of these threads so silly. I can’t believe the number of arm chair Rivera’s that want to be where their feet are and avoid taking a QB and build the team first.

The only FA QB I've thought about was Cousins, but a couple others to think about would be: Joe Flacco, if Tampa Bay doesn't retain Baker (gotta think they sign him though)

But if Brisett is a FA and we don't retain him, we will need a veteran backup or two.  So if not Brisett, I'd consider the following:
    Mason Rudolph
    Trevor Siemian
    A J McCarron
    Nate Sudfeld
Josh Dobbs (although some team might make him a starter)
Gardner Minishew and Teddy Bridgewatter are on this last as is Sam Darnold (some articles last week suggested he might end up here.) Jameis WInston....

Just recall just because we sign a Vet QB or 2 doesn't mean we don't draft QB #2.

  13. Man, it must be that time of year.  I don't always open spots articles that MSN feeds into windows, but when i saw this headline: "DId Panther's conduct sham interview with Raheem Morris?" I'll admit my ears perked up.  What did SB Nation know?

Did Panthers conduct sham interview with Raheem Morris? (msn.com)

I've read the article five times, and I didn't find one phrase, one sentence that actually included anything that would seem to be evidence of the accusation, and I know, other interviews of certain candidates in the past have been called Shams too, but this is the first time I recall reading an article and being like, what? Was this just click bait?

The second paragraph is one question

    "

So do the Panthers have real interest in Morris or are they potentially wasting his time and conducting a sham interview with the Rams defensive coordinator?
    "

Oh they give evidence that Bellichick is a hot commoddity for Atlanta and Chargers for Harbaugh?  Oh really? Says who? Who's the source?  I don't think they have actual sources, and if they do, they dare not say who tells them this stuff, because of the Rooney rules.   But it also amazes me, that articles like this get written, and its like people have no idea how a job search goes when you are the one hiring.

I didn't see anything in the article to actually implicate the Panthers in bad stuff, nevermind that we all may think their owner is suspect, but there is nothing but innuenda and meta with not one concrete fact, quote, or citable evidence.

I feel like I just wasted 15 minutes reading this article, and then i realized, its that time of year. With fewer games some of these people have less to write about, but they will make stuff up.  I've seen similar stuff in college level from what I'd classify as 'blogosphere' writers too, so friends, if you see an article like this, or you hear your friends talk about a topic like this and you google, and don't see one article this year with evidence? C'mon.

I think I just added SB Nation to my don't read ever again pile alongside SI.com

For a brief window we will see other headlines and articles like this about coaches, then it will be free agency and the draft.  The media seems willing to plant stories if it lets them get the jump on a competitor later.

Tres is probably the best veteran punter in the league, but he also has a high salary, if we are truly rebuilding, I'd not be surprised to see him move on either, sad though that be.

Have we all been snoozing at the radar? We are going to interview Antonio Pierce?  I know he made his name with the Giants, but he was with Washington first.

    Now that would be interesting.

I would be very disappointed if Morris or Quinn are hired, especially with the other choices out there.  ( I really want no part of Quinn)  I just don't believe that these guys are HC material at all, and they feel way too close to Dan Snyder-type hires to me.  Not saying they are, but it just feels that way to me.

That being said, I DO believe in this ownership group, and am stoked at what they've done so far.  They're the experts, going about this in expert fashion.  So whichever individual they hire, I'll trust it.  But Morris or Quinn will have me apprehensive for sure.

As a HC? I'm not a big Morris Fan, but he has to be light years better on Defense than Rivera/Del Rio.  Let's try to maintain perspective.  Dallas's Defense made Le Fleur look so awesome at play calling, and Green Bay's D made Joe Barry Seem like a Savant, for just watching film and doing dilligence.

Another thought is how much influence will Irving Johnson have with the Commanders. From an article and a statement taken from it below: www.si.com/nfl/commanders/news/magic-johnson-commanders-ownership-role-reveal-vision-washington-fan-base-sale

"What is Magic Johnson's job going to be? Connecting. Courting. Electrifying - you"

OKay First of all, please consider the source when posting links from SI.com
