  1. i think its more of a defensive move to prevent lee from going to one of the other AL contenders like Minnesota or even Tampa Bay

Montero is one of the top prospects in baseball (although he probably won't be playing catcher as his defense is horrible). his offensive potential has been compared to Miguel Cabrera.

yanks can afford to part with him because they have two other catchers in their farm system who should be good major league cathers in Austin Romine & Gary Sanchez (although neither have montero's potential offensive fire power, they are much better defensively)

You could be right. I guess the Yanks could use some pitching, but Sabathia, Hughes, and Pettite are all pitching well right now. Lee would just be overkill at this point. There isn't much the Yanks need to do. Once Teixeria and A-Rod start hitting like they can, its lights out.

I'd really like to see Lee go to Minnesota or Tampa. If he went to Tampa their rotation would be very good. I've also heard that the Phillies could be in the bidding for him too. Maybe parting with Werth to get Lee back.

  2. Not sure why the Yanks want Lee so bad. Seems like Montero could be the real deal and with Posada coming to the end of his career, I think it would be tough to trade a solid young catcher. I don't think they need Lee to win, they proved that last season.

  3. I understand what you're saying (sort of). I even came on after the Jackson no-hitter and said it was probably the worst one ever thrown (because of the 8 walks). So, we're kind of on the same page. I was joking about the above comment.:)

Nolan Ryan had 8 walks in one of his no-hitters as well

  4. Edwin Jackson has had an up and down year and last night kinda summed it up. Gets an no-hitter, but walks 8 and has to throw 149 pitches to get there. At one point he had walked the bases loaded and no one was out. But a no-hitter is a no-hitter, so congrats to him!

  5. I think Flying Dog puts out a lot of really good stuff, especially at their price point. I haven't had a chance to try that one.

Part of the problem is that the liquor stores near me don't tend to have a very good selection. They have your typical mid-level beers, but don't stock a lot of the more niche things like barley wines, Scotch Ales, etc.

The one store I know of with a pretty good craft beer selection charges through the roof from what I remember. I've only been in there once.

If anyone knows of liquor store with a great beer selection in the Northern/Western Baltimore metro area, please throw me a bone.

Wells in Towson. Right on York Rd just past the WBAL station and Towson University. They have just about any type of beer/wine/liquor you can imagine.

  6. I saw it was coming, I didn't know it opened already. georgiaredskin, rincewind and I have been bouncing from place to place trying to find a bar where we can watch Skins games that has decent food, reasonably priced beer and a good view of the game.

    Hopefully the Turtle will work!

That's where I will most likely be. I live a half-mile from it so its very close!

  7. Hey man, I didn't realize that was something you'd be pursuing right away when we were talking the other day. Congratulations!

Did you see the Greene Turtle in Owings Mills opened yesterday? I was pretty pumped! They have an autographed McNabb Skins jersey in there already!!

  8. Dave Trembley has been fired by the Orioles.

Dave Trembley, who was asked to the lead the Orioles through the early stages of a massive rebuilding project, has been fired less than two months into his third full season as the team's manager.

Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail met with Trembley Thursday. The Orioles will announce the change at 9:30 this morning, according to a team source. The team is saddled with a major league-worst 15-39 record and off to the worst start since the 1988 team began 0-21.

Juan Samuel will take over the club on an interim basis, while MacPhail is expected to begin the search for Trembley's long-term successor immediately. Triple-A Norfok manager Gary Allenson will become third base coach. Samuel will be the club's ninth since Peter Angelos became the principal owner of the Orioles in August 1993.

  9. Standardize DH around league

I was listening to noted Yankee radio personality John Sterling the other day broadcast his Yankee games and he said other than the NL he didn't know of any league that didn't use the DH. He said the minors and Japan even used the DH, and he's right.

So basically the NL is the only league antiquated and out-of-touch enough to still have a guy hit whose average is FAR below the Mendoza line. Good job NL

Are you sure all the minors use DH's? I could've swore I heard Strasburg was hitting in the minors.

  10. Lol do you listen to ESPN Radio all day

It was ridiculous not to overturn a blatantly incorrect call. Now that the game is over, and he won't overturn it, measures definitely need to be put in place so these things can be overturned on the field instead of a day later in offices.

Lol I have it on as background noise at work

  11. Might be the first good thing (that I agree with) that Selig has done.

I think the knee jerk reaction was for him to do it. I still think he should've reversed it since it had no effect on the game since the Tigers won anyone and the next guy was out. But it does set a bad precedent for the game. If a team had a call go against them they did like they would ask Selig to overturn it. I don't agree with it, but it does make sense.
