Wylie played his entire career @ G before last year, that is where he would be best.

Yeah, I really think the talk that Wylie will be our RT and Cosmi right guard is to try and confuse teams that we are absolutely taking a OT in the first. We have a bad habit of filling needs in 1st and 2nd rounds, and whether we trade down or not I think we are definitely addressing OT in the first, maybe 2nd if our top CB is available in the first.

Cosmi made it clear his preference was to know where he was playing to work at it in the off-season, so they slotted him at RG. I think the best case scenario for them is that their rookie 1st or 2nd rounder is their starting RT, and Wylie plays LG.

If you look at Wylie’s contract, he’s not being paid as a high caliber starting RT, it’s more like top guard money.

He was a replacement level RT in KC, we should hope he’s not our starter there for more than half a season.

Ron's logic on the draft made no sense.  Trying to argue that because the draft was weak, that's why Howell went late.  Under any normal circumstance, going late in a weak draft at your position means you're not supposed to be very good.  Not the other way around.  lol  when it comes to QBs, he should just not say anything.  Everytime he does, he kills what little credibility he has on the position.

He’s a really poor communicator overall, at least to the fan base and media.

  3. Is there any way we can keep this thread for news related to the sale- Twitter, articles, etc. as opposed to ridiculous back and forth about the potential owners? If not, maybe have a separate thread for either? I come here for good information and discussion but it’s completely drowned out by constant inane speculation and obnoxious troll posts.

Kincaid is good, but Mayer is better.  IMO Kincaid can be Zach Ertz, Mayer can be Jason Witten.

Keim said that the team was interested in do it all TE (Mayer) not necessarily a move TE or strictly pass catching TE (Kincaid) They have that with Cole Turner (who they talked up big time before his injury) and Armani Rodgers. I think they could be targeting a TE later, or maybe Mayer in a trade down as BPA.

Rivera also said they want to add a RB in FA of the draft (sort of obvious).

Depending how long this goes on new management may decide differently.  His price may go down alittle.

Yeah there is zero incentive to rescue the Ravens here. Lamar needs to hold out of all off season activities and work out a trade, in season. QB can basically bring the entire offense to a halt by not participating in anything optional and continuing to voice his displeasure with the team.

Someone will end up trading for him later for less than two firsts, IMO.

I like him as a player but I don’t think he’s worth the money for our team though.

He's a bit of a wildcard, I get some skepticism about him.  I am skeptical too -- but there is enough upside with him that I get rolling the dice on him.  He is IMO a boom-bust prospect.  There are a bunch of tackles I like better but wouldn't hate it in the late third depending as always who else is there.

While they've met with a ton of tackles, and guards, based on my notes he's not been one of those meetings.

IMO in the boom bust range -- Duncan, Freeland, W. Morris.    Among those guys in the combine they met with Morris but not the other 2.

I agree with the boom or bust on him. I could get behind him in the third (our late 3rd is basically a 4th) since he might be BPA. I don’t like that he isn’t position versatile, if he fails at OT he pretty much busts because he does not appear particularly strong and he’s so tall. He’s a basketball player, so he has the lower body explosiveness which made him test well. To me his upside is that he plays a valuable position, and if you squint you could see him as a adequate starting LT. I just see more bust than boom, but late 3rd or 4th? Sure. I bet he goes higher than that though;teams need tackles bad.

I want us to trade back a few slots and still be able to get Anton Harrison or Dawand Jones, though I'm starting to doubt Jones makes it past Pittsburgh at 17.  But if both Harrison and Dawand are on the board when we pick at 16, I think I consider moving  down a few slots and hoping one of them is still there when my pick comes up.

In the event of a trade down, you looking for extra mid round pick this year or picks next year?

I never say this, but we have new ownership coming in and no highly regarded prospect at QB. I’d move every asset I could into next years draft to try to have as much ammunition as possible to go up and get our guy next year. It’s the perfect storm. This year also looks uninspiring to me.

I think it’s almost always a good idea to trade down unless you are picking one of the elite players in a draft (usually like 5-10 of those guys or a QB).

I would have no problem trading our 16 for another teams 2nd this year and their first next year.

That would give us ammo to trade up for a QB next year, and we probably will need to.

  9. Great post, @Going Commando. It seems in the media there is a lot less love for him and lately mocks have him slipping to the second. I was particular impressed with what I read about his preparation and detail in analyzing other rushers moves and how to attack their weakness. The mental side of the game and his ridiculous size makes me pretty comfortable that he will develop into a adequate starting RT, at minimum.

Keim said he knows they are interested in trading down, I wonder if they think they can get him lower.

I read an interesting post somewhere that our interest in Joey Porter Jr may be a smokescreen to try and entice a slight trade down with Pittsburgh or Detroit. Along with that, it wouldn’t surprise me if we start hearing rumors that even though we have Howell, we really like Will Levis at QB to try and trade down. Teams like Detroit, Tampa Bay, Seattle, Baltimore, etc. may like him and want to get ahead of a second QB run.

I think Mayer is better than all of the OTs, and would draft him ahead of OT1 Paris Johnson Jr and OG1 Peter Skoronski.

Some of the shine has come off Mayer because of his mediocre combine numbers, but I'm still going to have him 7th or 8th probably.  I could certainly be wrong, and TE is not an easy position to project, but I think he's getting slept on like Kyle Hamilton was last year.  He's a transcendent player that's one of the best all around prospects in the class even though he plays a low value position and ran a "slow" 40.  I also think he's the rare TE prospect who has a year 1 impact potential because his body and functional strength are a;ready like an NFL vet's, he's the rare man coverage beater at TE, he has been playing through contact and beating coverages designed to stop him as the first option for three years, and he's a legitimately good blocker.  His ability to play through contact throughout the entire route is what makes him look like an NFL star to me.  Compare his style to Luke Musgrave, who is way faster than him, but just doesn't play through people like Mayer.  You're going to have to play through dudes if you're going to be a star  TE in the NFL because defenses are going to man cover you if you're good, and those athletes are going to jam and hold you all of the way down the field.

I think Mayer is special and I still think he helps you win the line of scrimmage as a non-lineman because of how good his blocking can be.  I'll take him over a LT prospect who I think is really good, but not a transcendent one.

I’m a big fan of your takes, but isn’t NFL TE success often highly correlated to RAS, no?

    https://ras.football/ras-information/?PlayerID=15426&pos=TE

TE’s usually take some time to develop in the NFL, it’s not a premium position money-wise, this draft seems deep at the position, and our team seems to have a lot of young athletic tight ends on the roster.

I do think his skill set could be a nice complement to the pass catching TEs we are developing, and I see some shades of Cooley in Mayer. Phenomenal hands, contact balance, strength, good (not elite) speed, blocking etc.

In your example of a trade down I think I would like the pick a lot. At 16, I would think there would be a BPA (pass rusher?) probably available.

Interesting that the Steelers signed Suemalo for similar numbers that we grabbed Wylie. I feel like Suemalo Is the better player at Guard and could have kept Cosmi at tackle but injuries to Cosmi have always been the biggest issue. Guess we will see. Perhaps Wylie fits what EB wants better.

Yeah if they are close you have to imagine EB would prefer a guy who has worked in his system and he knows character/teammate wise vs unknown. I’m still hoping we draft a OT.

The whole, "this QB was taken in the 5th round is enough evidence that he's no good" talk is starting to get tiresome.

I would take Brock Purdy (7th), Gardner Minshew (6th), Mike White (5th) over Zach Wilson (1st), Trey Lance (1st), Drew Lock (2nd), Will Grier (3rd), Baker Mayfield (1st), Sam Darnold (1st), Josh Rosen (1st)...you get the picture.  The "most late round quarterbacks don't develop into franchise qbs" can also be argued that most 1st rounders don't either.  It's a gamble.  Dak Prescott was 5 selections away from being a 5th rounder.

Yeah, Howell may fail but it’s not going to be because he was a 5th rounder. There are some limitations to him (like all prospects) that made him drop, but it doesn’t mean he can’t be successful.

I wonder how much of the failure rate of QBs is the impatience to develop them. Obviously a later round pick doesn’t get the amount of chances as a high pick.

  13. I’m all for spending a mid to late round pick on a QB but I’m strongly against a move to get a QB in the first round.

I think there’s a strong possibility we have a new coach next year (if the season goes poorly) or a new OC (if it goes really well and EB gets a HC position). Either way, I’d like the new regime or possibly OC to have say on the QB. I think there is value later on QB after the first round because once teams address QB early (or if they have a great starter) they are out of the QB draft game. Guys slip big time like Howell last year.

Gates said he expects to play Centre. We brought back Larsen, who granted is an easy cut. Not a chance we draft a pure centre. It’ll be a C/G prospect and I think a bit later in the draft if at all. Early needs to be OT.

I think you’re right but more because of positional value. I’m sure we can find a developmental center or C/G much later than a OT with the tools to be a starting LT in a few years.

Is everyone off the TE wagon at 16 now? I’m alllll aboard for Mayer now we’ve made some good OL moves.

I think TE is deep in the draft so I wouldn’t go there at 16, I don’t think one is that much better to warrant that. I absolutely think we draft a TE in this draft.
