I think week 1 was pretty close to what we envisioned our team looking like on our best case scenario. Many players played their role very well. Injuries are bound to strike, amd some players will hit inconsistent streaks, but if we look at the lineup as it is now, and assuming Preston and Crowder walk, I feel we have 6 short term needs. 1. LG 2. OLB 3. WR 4. TE, could become high priority if JR misses time 5. S 6. ILB The good thing is unlike QB and ot, I think pro bowl players are routinely found in the mid rounds for most of these positions. As far as wr goes, I think we could get a Parris Campbell or deebo Samuel on the second day and still have upgraded the position, allowing us a BPA play on Thursday night between five or six positions. So while we could pounce on aj brown if he fell to us, if there was a higher rated player at any of these other positions on the board, we could feel comfortable at addressing wr later. While it would be nice to have a stud, as long as we have balance and depth, I think this team they way it is structured would be just fine. And the reason I feel confident with our balance and depth is because of how Sims, Harris, Quinn, and Davis each have the potential to play their role well within our system. And it is way too early to talk about the draft, but it makes watching college football that much better when you envision these prospects filling holes for us.

5 if you count Davis injury in preseason. And we've only played one game. I am not a fan of getting the first bye week, but this may be a good year for it.

I hear you on how a clear day favors the passing game, which is clearly the colts strength, but I still feel a clear day is best for the skins. The Redskins are clearly a better team than the colts, even with luck airing it out. Sloppy field conditions can lead to turnovers, slipping and missed assignments etc. Which can allow an otherwise inferior team to hang around. Of course those dynamics could go in our favor and we blow them out, but I'd rather minimize those freak occurrences and you would assume the better team would be more likely to win. Not to mention minimizing the risk of freak injuries due to a sloppy field. And after reading that latest article, I do feel much better about our wr unit. And I don't believe our new wave of second stringers is all that much worse than last week's second stringers. Be interesting to see the passing game this week against a very suspect colts secondary, weather permitting.

I just saw that Harris returned to practice, and chesson was signed to the active roster. Those two actions make me feel a lot better. So it seems they will go with 5 active WRs on game day and have ladler pick up a little slack on teams. I'm not sure we see much from our passing game this week due to Florence, although my weather app says not much rain on Saturday or Sunday. Not sure how that's possible but I'd love clear weather. Sloppy weather only favors the underdog. Good conditions should allow us to handle the colts. I know we went 2 wr sets a lot as we were using multiple tight ends last week, and I wonder if we do the same this week due to our lack of healthy WRs. If we go three receiver sets that could mean all our healthy WRs are on the field at the same time. That's a little unnerving. Hopefully we get a lead early and can keep a similar game plan as last week. I'd be more than happy to wait another week to get a better read on our wr situtation.

Thanks for the info. I now feel ok about chesson as a short term fix until Harris returns, and I wouldn't be surprised if chesson sticks longer than quick if guys like sims are able to come back the second half of the year. Chesson has a lot of positives and is a well rounded guy, I'm surprised he isn't on a roster somewhere. I hope they promote him asap.

If we we're able to stash him on ir for the rest of the season, I'd be perfectly happy with that. I didn't expect to get much wr production this year from Sims, but I do believe he has potential to be a good starting wr in the NFL over the long term, which is why I'm glad they hung onto him. But my question is: if they put him on ir with an injury that would only keep him out 4-6 weeks, and by November he is healthy but we have already burned our 2 IR to return, can another team swipe him away from us? bc that would suck, and if that's the case, I'd prefer to cut Keyes and carry 7 wr for a month or so until guys heal, and then we can part ways with quick again. Doesn't seem like there are teams looking to scoop him up.

Even tho Dez may be better than all our WRs right now, don't you think that Dez coming on board, learning our offense quickly, and being perfectly ok with not having the offense run through him is not a very likely scenario? Not to mention he doesn't play special teams, which Sims and Quinn do. Also, signing Dez would mean giving that roster spot to him over a young guy who could help us for the next five to ten years. We know Dez is only a stop gap. If he had an art monk demeanor, it would be an intriguing possibility. But bringing in head cases never works out for the Redskins. The Patriots maybe, but not the Redskins.

If Sims and Quinn are both going to miss multiple weeks, then unfortunately we are going to have to make tough decisions. I'd put Sims on ir out for the year, Quinn IR designated to return, bring back quick, and then look to others practice squads for the other spot. Allen lazard from the jags has a similar frame to Sims. Marcell ateman with the raiders was once a hyped NFL prospect. Or we could raid a division rival / upcoming opponent for Intel. I'd pass on dez, not good enough at this point of his career to be worth the headache he will be when the offense isn't run thru him. I also don't think kidsey is ready, but not sure he is any less ready than people from others practice squads.

You are right, there is a risk involved regarding our record this year. I would still take the risk. I think our front seven will be a great unit this year as it stands. Now imagine inserting the best player of the unit, Khalil Mack. He is the type of the guy the offense is looking for the second they break the huddle. They have been working on how to stop him all week. Don't forget about kerrigan on the other side, if you don't account for him, he will make you pay. Allen, Payne, ioannides are all beasts up front that not only occupy blockers, but can penetrate as well. The offense already has their hands full, which allows the human missile Zach brown to fly all over the field and make plays. And Mason foster does well in his role, he may be the best "worst player" on any given teams front seven. That group has a chance to be special. Special front sevens win championships. As far as your first two points, if there are any character concerns, deal is off. Only pull the trigger if an LTD is done at the time of the trade. But you are right, if we get the injury bug and some players disappoint, we may be giving the raiders a nice draft pick. Looking at the Texans, who gave up what ended up being the 4th overall pick for deshaun watson, do you think they regret it after landing such an impact player? They wouldn't undo the trade. And that's pretty close to a worst case scenario. I know we have been burned by giving up draft picks for the sexy names in the past, but for an elite pass rusher in his prime, I think it's worth the risk.

I understand your logic, but an opportunity to make our front 7 elite is worth it to me. The Giants d line won them 2 super bowls for an otherwise rather unspectactular team.

A couple things: 1. It's hard to argue Mack is one of the best defenders in the game. He plays a premier position at edge rusher. Preston smith is good and all, but I feel his hype is partly due to potential and what he can become. He isn't anywhere near the level that mack is. And Mack is in his prime at 27 years old. Teams need elite players like mack to get over the hump and win championships. Here is our chance to pounce. Imagine Ryan kerrigan as the second best olb "on the other side" that teams aren't paying attention to. Wow. 2. Just to be clear, I was proposing a 2019 first, not Payne, but I'm guessing you understood that and are just using our most recent player taken in the first for context. First, I feel Payne is special and will be better than the average 13th pick. Given he is the new force on a revamped d line, his impact will seem huge. I also think with the addition of mack, the skins are a playoff team, picking no earlier than 21st next year, and therefore not as high as Payne was taken. Lastly, even if it was this particular situation, would you rather have mack and kerrigan on the edge with settle in the middle, or Preston and kerrigan on the edge with settle in the middle. I vote team mack in a landslide. We also don't even know if we will be able to extend smith, and I'm not a fan of the franchise tag game. The trade for mack would need to be part of an agreement on a LTD, because I wouldnt give that up for a one year rental. I know smith and a first rounder is a good package, but for an edge rusher in his prime, who can play multiple positions in diverse schemes, you absolutely pounce on that opportunity.

It sounds like they are punishing people who have sold their tickets online. I'm just assuming it's aimed at a desire to keep season ticket holders aka redskins fans as the ones who attend the games, instead of an opposing fan buying them second hand. Or is it solely because they sold them through a third party platform and not their own?

The approach by the ticket sales Dept is mind boggling. They have a desirable product, and it wouldn't be too hard to treat people with respect and act ethically, while still making money hand over fist. It seems everyone understands that except for the man who has made billions in the private sector. Strange. I feel for you guys having to deal with this crap, and don't blame you for walking away. As someone who lives in the Northeast and rarely makes it to FedEx, I admit I do get frustrated seeing seas of blue or green while watching a home game. Or a sea of terrible towels. So I can imagine snyder doesnt like it much either, so i can understand the desire to keep opposing fans out, but the way they have gone about it is disgusting. And I don't know what the best answer is, because I understand it is hard to have both the time and money to go to all the home games, and selling some tickets off is necessary, but it seems this is as poor as you could have possibly handled it. Understood. I was born in 81, so am lucky enough to witness the glory years, but you'd think I'd learn my lesson after being let down so many times over the last 25 years. Too stubborn I guess. Guice was a real punch in the gut. And my lack of faith in this front office had me wondering if they put him on ir too early and another team could claim him, so when redskinss pointed out the rule change, I was like hey, at least he'll be back next year. Agreed 100%. The reason I am excited about the direction of the redskins is due to the balance and depth across the roster. While I don't feel wrs are a weak spot, I completely agree that we don't have other units that are elite, such as Seattle secondary, balt defense, or new England QB to name a few, to compensate for the average units in other areas, in this case wr. But my optimism lies in the fact that we are continuing to improve the roster, at least on paper, and the results will speak for themselves. I'm hoping our front 7 is on its way to being elite, just as the legion of boom was, and that will be what carries us in the near future. And as far as our wr core specifically goes, I think we have 3 solid starters and an above average set of backups in Harris and Davis (pre injury, see you in 2019), so I like our depth. My point is I don't think the Redskins approach to the wr unit will be a hindrance to success in the near future, as other teams have proven. Sounds like we are on the same page, with me maybe being a bit more optimistic on the wr unit as it stands today, but I am a self admitted homer / optimist. 28 more days.

You are talking 2017. I am talking their entire run of success in recent years. Their wr corps weren't anything special. And I would say Richardson is our 3 behind doctson and Crowder, contract aside. Do you feel the wr corps Seattle had in 2014 is any better than our current one?

Disagree with you. Here is the box score from super bowl 49. I know Doug Baldwin is good and kearse is decent, but a pretty underwhelming group as a whole. My point is that other teams have had a lot of success with lesser wr units. Agreed, I think our 4 and 5 guys can be as good as anybody else's. And I'd rather have that than a elite no 1 and nobody else. A lot of good teams recently, Seahawks and Ravens come to mind, have had success with not too impressive wr corps. I'm not worried about our wrs.

I don't like trading down on the first pick site, the offers they make for trading back aren't very realistic. No GM offers that much anymore to trade up. That being said, if we select where we currently are, this draft sets up nicely for our positions of need. On offense, I would like to see the skins come away with an OG, RB, and WR, and there will be some good options there late (especially RB and WR). There will be solid defensive prospects available into the middle rounds. Look at how much depth we could get on defense. Have you guys tried NFL Network? I live in Rhode Island, and they showed the Pats - Giants game at 7. I just got off the phone with Verizon and they tell me the Cardinals - Redskins game is blacked out in Rhode Island, although the Pats game was on air. How does that make any sense?
