  1. Maybe Fox is Dan Reeves. He's taken two different teams to the SB. And he won a playoff game with Tebow at QB. But to call him mediocre isn't fair. Dude's accomplished more in this league then majority of the other HCs.
  2. I'll have to to say it's been a strange offseason with the coaching changes. Seven openings and possibly eight if Garrett isn't re-signed. From the Harbaugh drama to Marrone opting out to Garrett not being re-signed yet after a 12-4 season to Fox being fired after a 12-4 season. How many qualified HCs are out there to take these jobs? It's more mediocre retreads and inexperienced coordinators.
  3. Seems like Rex wants to wait out Brady's eventual retirement and try to take over the AFCE.
  4. I assume you mean Vincent Jackson, not Fitz. With Brees the decision was made easy once he tore his labrum. Most thought his career might be over. The Saints were the only team that took a chance and it paid off big. Miami passed on Brees and traded for Culpepper. If Miami had signed Brees I don't think Saban leaves for Alabama.
  5. With Smith his '04 and '05 drafts turned the Chargers around into a SB contender. Phillip Rivers Igor Olshansky Nate Kaeding Nick Hardwick Shaun Phillips Michael Turner Shawne Merriman Luis Castillo Vincent Jackson Darren Sproles Eight of those guys were pro-bowlers during their careers. Then he drafted Antonio Cromartie and Marcus McNeil in '06. Since then his drafts haven't been as great. His next three first round picks (Craig Davis, Antoine Cason and Larry English) were all busts. One thing Smith is good at though, which the Skins have sucked at for years, is drafting OL and DL. He also seems to know RBs. Sproles, Turner and Matthews were all good. Smith's arrogance with players and agents when it came to contracts is why he wasn't liked. Also he still lives in the San Diego area and was still being paid by the Spanos family after he was fired. I don't think he was dying to find another GM job.
  6. What's on Bruce's to do list right now? A) The Company Christmas Party The Winter Jamboree C) The ****ing Catalina Wine Mixer D) Fixing the Redskins I'd say a combination of A, B and C.
  7. With Larry conducting the interview don't expect much. Actually Larry asked about off field stuff surrounding team and Bruce mentioned great week the the harvest fest.
  8. PFF had Lauvao ranked the 70th best guard last year when he was playing RG with the Browns. If that gives you any indication of how he looks on the right side.
  9. Where did you get this from? The talk was always Snyder and Bruce talked Shanahan into making the trade up for RGIII and Shanahan was content with staying put and drafting Tannehill. As for player ratings, every team grades players differently. Otherwise they'd all draft based off Kiper's big board. A lot of it has to do with scheme fit. Williams athleticism fit the ZBS better then Okung.
  10. They offered it to Ray Rhodes who turned it down. IIRC Dan was going to give the job to his good buddy Pepper Rodgers but there was backlash from the coaching staff (I think Robiskie spoke out) so Dan gave to Terry.
  11. It's happened 4 times with Wade. He took over for his dad in NO. He replaced Dan Reeves twice (Denver and Atlanta) and then took over for Kubiak last year in Houston. I wouldn't say Wade didn't support his HC. He's known to be very loyal to his coaching staffs. It's what got him fired in Buffalo. Plus look at the relationships he had with the guys he replaced. His dad, his good friend Dan Reeves and Kubiak who he had a relationship with from Denver. When management wants to make a change, there's not much the asst coaches can do about it other then move on with it. Edit: He also replaced Levy in Buffalo, but Levy retired on his own terms.
  12. His postseason record (1-5) is bad. But his regular season record (82-61) ain't too shabby. Still way better DC then HC.
  13. I agree, Lombardi's a weasel. Is it a coincidence the Patriots suck now that he's part of their FO? The Pats current struggles can actually be traced to the last couple years, but Lombardi ain't going to help. As for Bruce I look more at what happened in Tampa. He and Jon started with a Super Bowl roster. Poor drafting and poor FA signings later that team was in the dumps.
  14. He was executive of the year in 2002. But it's hard to tell what Bruce actually did there since Al called all the shoots and Mike Lombardi was the top player personnel guy assisting Al.
  15. Because many didn't see much difference between Bitonio and Zack Martin. Bitonio's strong, athletic, smart and mean. He's also versatile. He's playing LG now, but can easily play RT or RG. There's no way the Skins don't start him if taken a 33. That's basically a 1st rd pick. You don't take OL that high and sit him unless he's injuried or he sucks.
  16. Guess you missed the part where I said it's too early to tell how the 3 guys we got will turn out. They traded out of 33 and got an extra pick in the 3rd rd. Increases the odds they get good players out of the draft. I'm cool with that. But the fact is they passed up a day one starter in an area of need to draft two backups in Murphy and Long. I actually like what I saw from Long in preseason and think he has a future if he stays healthy. Like him better then Moses and Murphy (who I don't think has much upside). I also believe the Skins have an OL coach who's overly loyal to the current starters and that's part of the issue.
  17. Too early to tell on Murphy, Moses and Long but if the Skins had stayed at 33 and taken Joel Bitonio he would of been starting day one.
  18. The Haywood contact gives them flexibility. They're paying him $2mil guaranteed this year, but his contact goes to $10.5mil non-guaranteed next year. That's a $10.5 mil trade chip. Any team looking to clear cap space next summer will be calling the Cavs. They're going to have bargaining power. Plus I believe they get a $5mil boost on it, so they can take on $15mil in player contacts from another team. It's similar to how the Raptors got Louis Williams and Lucas Nogueira from Atlanta. Atlanta was trying to clear cap space for FA. The Raptors sent John Salmons to Atlanta and his non-guaranteed for two prospects. Atlanta waives Salmons and clears $7mil. So basically the Cavs are going to be able to trade a washed up, backup center for 1 or 2 legit players/prospects to go with what they already have. Don't think Lebron didn't know what the Cavs were doing when they made the trade with the Bobcats to get Haywood. They're putting themselves in position to continue to build out that roster
  19. I disagree. Miami exhausted just about all their resources when they brought the Big 3 together. The Cavs still have their draft picks, unguaranteed contracts they acquired from Utah and the Haywood contract will be a huge piece for them in 2015. They have some bargaining power and breathing room going forward to keep their roster fluid. Miami could only get the vet ring chasers who would take less $$$ to come play so they were left with an old roster. The Cavs will be able to get those guys as well, plus can add other young stars down the road.
  20. The funny thing is I've noticed most people who say they hate Nickleback, own or end up owning one of their albums. I know I'm guilty of it.
  21. I think people identify Lombardi with the NFL as much as they do the Packers. Kinda like John Wooden with college basketball. Lombardi's name is on the trophy. That's why I don't get the problem you have with him designing a uniform for the Skins. I think it's pretty cool. How many other teams can say that?
  22. Well, they looked like Florida St before Vince changed them. I think I'd rather look like a pro team more then a college. It's a different time now and coaches don't have the kind of power to do that. I think the last coach to do something like that was when Jerry Glanville got the Falcons to go with all black uniforms.
