  1. Currently my opinion has changed and it likely will again. I think it's most likely he chooses to play. WFT, depending on the off-season, will have a QB competition with 4 QBs and I suspect it's 50/50 that Alex Smith is one of them. I don't think Alex had been running the offense like Turner envisions, rather Heinicke did. That example and the fact Alex had watched it, might serve him well with a second year in the offense. I think he would need to comeback with improved strength and added mobility. Yes, that is possible. Adding QB like Marcus Mariota, etc., might not be good for Alex's chance for a second try at Turners offense.
  2. Yeah I agree with that for sure. Just too many holes to fill and mouths to feed to make a debilitation move on Watson (who isn't available). I think they add more pieces to the puzzle, including a QB to compete for the starting slot. They took a shot at Stafford likely in a way that wasn't jeopardizing the ability to address all the other roster issues. I believe their efforts are measured.
  3. The coaches didn't all of a sudden forget that. Clearly Turner will point out this fact and push for a mobile guy who can run a version of that scheme. There's a few NFL QBs that can do that and they've got 2 that are coming back. I see them being aggressive early. Were not blind to the fact there's holes all over the roster. If they don't acquire a QB early, then it's fill holes and QB competition next year. I don't see any indication that Houston is going to trade Watson unless some team offers the unthinkable. The downside for Watson is he'll be swapping teams to get into another handicapped situation.
  4. If you get Mariota for fair compensation, they would be bringing in a former 2nd overall pick for competitive reasons on a very friendly cap number. There's nothing negative about that where the cost is a day 2 pick. Nothing but upside.
  5. Mariota is more mobile and keeps his eyes down field. He had a new OC 4 years in a row with Tennessee. I think there's multiple teams interested in acquiring him and he'd be less expensive than Carr.
  6. That's a legit Plan B for a second year on a rebuild. The trade expense just needs to be fair.
  7. Shouldn't cut your own throat with a reach, lunge, or grab at a QB this year. The WFT isn't ready to win now. I say bring in more competitive situation first and fill in some holes when you can't land your target.
  8. Rarely does a team in the modern era win a SB who doesn't draft their QB. Exception was Manning to Denver on a 1-year wonder propelled by their Defense. Since WFT won't be drafting at or near the top to find a franchise QB, they're going to need to trade up in an upcoming draft or hit on a late rounder like the Pats did or an undrafted phenom like the Rams did. Heinicke anyone?!
  9. True and hypothetical as it is, if Alex Smith in fact does want to keep playing, ship him and a couple of better picks on a better deal. Just saying.
  10. This is the ideal scenario. The Problem is two fold. How long is it going to take to know if you've drafted well? Like Buffalo, do you have 2 yrs to develop a guy while the rest of your roster ages and big second contracts start coming. Realistic to view the coveted DL as an annual big second contract cap eater...Allen's due anytime now, followed by Payne, then Sweat and the Monster Deal with Chase to finish it off. Can you wait 2-3 yrs on a rookie in 2021 by trading up from #19? If you're doing that, then you can't miss or you're screwed. I think they're already screwed by the Haskins pick failure on drafting a rookie. They're definitely making some plans up there. I don't think you can afford to miss on a QB situation like a huge contract for the wrong guy (ie, Goff, Wentz, etc.). This is why the thread is so popular.
  11. You would think that in every other case except this one. Watson isn't choosing WFT, so all those youngsters arn't going anywhere.
  12. JJ has lost his mind overpaying for everyone else and leaving the most expensive position for a tight cap year. They're pretty screwed either way and the future dead cap is going to leave larger holes in the roster and JJs ego.
  13. If Heinicke has better WRs and a LT, he beats Brady and TB who are playing KC in the SB. People are acting like what happened really didn't happen. I think it's dumb to ignore the tape and the real needs to win that caliber of matchup. KC gets beat every year, more than once. They might be losing again next game.
  14. Some speculation about Dallas inquiry about Stafford instead of Dak. I believe everything I read on the internet....!
  15. That's easy, too much waste. Instead of cutting draft picks they've been cutting bad FA contracts that rollover dead cap. You must have a timely rebuild that puts the majority of your roster cuts, year to year, without dead cap penalty. This happens when the coaches and front office work together to bring competition to camp...not high profile or overpriced free agents.
  16. WFT will have 4 QBs in camp. Allen, Heinicke, a rookie flyer, and a vet not necessarily named Alex Smith. The rookie won't matter. Whomever the vet is won't be named Stafford or Watson. They saw, vs TB that a QB in this type of offense must be capable of unscripted plays. Elusive enough to avoid pressure, while keeping his eyes downfield. That type of vet QB is Tyrod Taylor, Teddy Bridgewater, and Mariota. Building on improvements, to be a contender, isn't a single roster position for this years 7-9 team. They're not close enough for a mega-deal move on 1 guy, even at QB because they'd cut off their nose despite their face.
  17. Pump the brakes on Stafford Stafford's sparkling numbers are mostly because of volume passing. He has thrown more passes per game (37.2) than any QB in NFL history. In the important yards per attempt category, Stafford is 20th among active QBs at 7.2 (between Teddy Bridgewater and Andy Dalton). Stafford's QB rating (89.9) is 15th among current QBs, just behind Jared Goff and barely ahead of Bridgewater. Stafford has thrown 23 pick-six interceptions, third among active players and seventh all time. In contrast, Aaron Rodgers has thrown just three and Russell Wilson five. His completion percentage of 62.2 is 20th among active QBs, right between Carson Wentz and Alex Smith. The website pro-football-reference.com has a Hall of Fame metric. Stafford is 56th all-time among QB's, considerably lower than any Hall member and slightly behind Joe Flacco and barely ahead of Smith.
  18. The Stafford sweepstakes is a tight race and Detroit's going to pull out a 1st rounder at the least.
  19. I don't care who they play. You can't predict anything in the NFL consistently week by week. Bookmakers make their living on this fact. The best gamblers are barely over 50%. Seeing the 2020 WFT upset the 11-0 Steelers makes guessing their output impossible. I think as fans you know if weaknesses have been addressed in the off-season compared to the prior year. Then you look at a schedule and think about your improved roster vs an opponent's prior year results and quickly form unsubstantiated expectations most the time. I like to view off-season moves and form a floor - ceiling expectation that has nothing to do with opponents for this reason.
  20. Per his statements on the Pat McAfee show he's a 4 finger scotch guy with a recent reality of his own ego issues that he's been dealing with through yoga and meditation...so, he's clearly conflicted.
  21. I know you're not comparing Ron Rivera to Bill Belichick. Patriots are clearly the top contender for Stafford with draft pick capital and huge cap space and winning consistently. Obviously the Colts are a playoff team establishment who just finished 11-4 and a good OL WR group, with huge cap space. Staffords agent can easily look to the Colts for a mega contract with a proven win now roster. Past the obvious, don't be so quick to link Stafford and Mayhew as positive. Draft picks and cap space considered, these are the top 3 teams likely to make offers, however WFT is clearly #3 by comparison. If they do land him, they'll have paid too much for a non-leader who's stats are inflated from playing from behind all his career. Stafford is tough but chronically injured and is going to want mega deal extension now. I view him as a top 10 QB, better than any QB in the EAST, but I don't see him choosing WFT over those other 2. Catch up more later
