  1. Eight straight 12+ win seasons now. Insane.
  2. Are the Wizards talked about a lot on local sports talk radio? You would think that'd be a min topic of conversation given how the team seems to be underachieving.
  3. Looks like there are presently two tickets in the loge on Stubhub, but well over $200 per. I'll get intrigued when I see tickets listed in a suite for below $100 like I did last week, but get suspicious when I see "row 23," because I sure as hell know there aren't 23 rows in a suite! Looks like there are still a decent amount of relatively inexpensive club tickets for the game, although not at the ridiculously low prices you saw for the Cardinals game. That would still be my recommendation if you wind up deciding to go. As for the survey the Skins are sending out, yep, that's all we need is a bunch of fans making decisions on the future of the team. "Muh gotta bring Russ Grimm in here!!" SMH.............
  4. Steinberg's article reminded me of the one a few years back where the guy bought a cheap upper level ticket on Stubhub and then got upgraded to the club level by the Skins officials who were hanging on the upper concourse handing out club passes. Reading this article makes it even feel more insulting when Larry Michael tries to blow sunshine up our you-know-whats by saying "its gonna be packed and rocking!" and then you see the shots of the seating bowl on the internet. I don't even know what they use to measure attendance any more. No way over 71K passed through the turnstiles yesterday. And if you say "well, they base on tickets sold, " then surely well more than 56K tickets had been sold for the Chiefs game in 2013.
  5. Super Bowl 54 in early 2020 will be in Miami. Maybe Brady will win the one there, proclaim that he's exercised his Miami demons, and retire.
  6. Maybe Dan gets ideas from watching a game at the soccer stadium today and asks DC United if the Skins can share Audi Field. Because that's where the demand for season tickets is heading.......especially if KC isn't re-signed.
  7. Halftime of the Pats-Bills game and the announcers cited a stat that the Patriots haven't had an opponent start a drive in Pats territory in 94 possessions......such a streak hasn't happened in 25 years. Speaks to mistake-free football and great special teams.
  8. LOL.....After THIS Thursday's (tonight's) debacle, someone on PFT tweeted that Gruden's name might be added to the Black Monday list
  9. 1990. I'll link the YouTube of the game, and the interesting part starts at the 1:18 mark of the video. I know Wayne Fontes was doing the run-and-shoot offense at the time, but......Barry Sanders had 11 carries for 104 yards in the game up to this point. So the Skins bring it to 38-24 with 11:59 left, and then try an onside kick which Detroit recovers at their 47. Detroit calls a short pass on first down, completed, but the receiver fumbles and Skins recover on their own 45. We drive but turn it over on downs at the Detroit 23 with 9:35 left. Next Detroit sequence: incomplete pass, incomplete pass, QB run out of bounds Skins get ball back on 20 with 8:33 left, and score with 5:48 left......38-31. Next Detroit sequence from 25: 8-yard sack, pass to 27, QB run to 34. Skins get ball on 15 with 3:24 left, and get the 12-yard QB TD draw from Rutledge on a 3rd down play that started with 24 secs left and the Skins with no timeouts. Looking at it now, man they would've replayed the heck out of this today....it was close! Then in OT, Skins get pinned deep and have a horrible punt that gives Detroit the ball at our 45: Sequence: QB keeper for 4 yards and 2 incomplete passes. Then we get pinned deep again, but on a 3rd and 15 from our 5, Rutledge throws a bullet to Monk out to our 45, and we drive from there. Again, I know what offense they were running, but you have Barry Friggin Sanders. Who wound up with 1300 yards that year, a 5.1 YPC clip. Late in the game with that lead, you gotta feed the beast. If they had, Skins would not have won. Anyway:
  10. This, in a nutshell, explains the mentality that leads the Patriots to win 12+ games every season:
  11. Bills, Jets, and Dolphins have stunk for the most part during the Pats run, but since they've gone to the four-team division format in 2002, the Pats had a .789 record within the division through 2016. Outside the division, it was .767. Not a huge difference.
  12. I don't think there's any reason why, particularly during this time of year, the locally-based hosts can't give a lot of attention to national topics. The problem I think a lot of folks have had with 980 and 106.7 is the abundance of attention still given to the Redskins/NFL during the spring and early summer. Granted, the NFL drives ratings/callers and free agency and the draft are important to discuss, but it seems like too little attention is paid to the Wiz, Caps, Nats, and college hoops during the heart of their seasons. But I think other people have the same complaints about content in other markets.
  13. Its just a tough time of year for local sports talk radio. The Nats should be the focus of discussion right now, but people like to talk about issues with the team, and its tough to really nitpick a squad that has had a ~10 game lead in their division for a while now (aside from mentioning the bullpen, which I guess they recently addressed).
  14. Even though I can't understand STHs who sell the majority of their games, it would be hypocritical for the Skins to take tickets from those folks, given that they have Stubhub as a sponsor at the stadium.
  15. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2017/03/09/the-redskins-ticket-office-should-probably-just-take-the-rest-of-the-day-off/?tid=sm_tw_ps&utm_term=.cbf1bb2f5988
  16. Probably at least once in this thread I advocated for Pollin and Loverro to be paired together when both were still at 980. That was primarily because I felt Sheehan was one of the strongest hosts on the station and felt he should have a drive-time gig......which he now does with Cooley in the mornings. Andy and Thom together might be a decent show. It'd be interesting if they could eventually carve out a weekday spot for them, perhaps creating a two-hour spot by lopping off the last hour of Grant and Danny's show and the first hour of Dukes' show.
  17. Feinstein should've had a better humor about it and realized that Lurch was just referring to the crowds, and probably would've asked him the same question if Hillary was being sworn in. I don't think Feinstein likes brash people and I can understand his disdain for Trump, but his touchiness today was ridiculous.
  18. IX, I think they probably still did talk Terps recently with Knoche, but in general, give the non-Redskins sports teams short shrift. I was amazed the day after the Nats acquired Adam Eaton and Pollin's brilliant insight was "well, I don't know much about him......we'll just have to see how it plays out." It was almost like he hadn't bothered to read an article about Eaton.......it just seemed so lazy. I've said it before, but I think sports talk shows should follow the "less is more" formula. I think having multiple hosts in studio detracts from the show for me.......don't like the talking over each other aspect, etc. A solo host can certainly have multiple guests (like beat writers) to cover the different sports. But otherwise, unlike others, I'm not averse to hearing from callers. I know some on here think they have nothing to add, but I don't see where your garden variety sports talk host has much more insight than Joe Public.
  19. Czaban on right now and he is sounding like his national show team (Solly, Scott Linn) is reuniting for the show on 980. Says Loverro, Knoche, Buckhantz will probably not be on much anymore. Mentions that the show will be "at least 40 percent local sports, depending on the season"
  20. Yeah, but Pollin and Czaban were as guilty as anyone of ignoring the other local sports teams for the past two decades.
  21. Tim Murray and Nick Ashooh tweeting that today is also their last day at 980........so I guess they are getting rid of the 7-10 pm show as well? In his tweet Ashooh mentioned "budget," for what its worth.
  22. Definitely both stations should discuss college basketball more. I think the Junks do a little, given that I think a few of them (at least EB) went to College Park. On 980, I know Sheehan went to Maryland, and often you have Knoche, who is one of the Terp radio guys, appearing on TSR with Czabe.
  23. Bang, you know you want to hear Loverro's voice 24/7 on 980. So this is very surprising indeed. Andy seems like a nice enough guy, but always thought he was kind of stale except for his historic Skins knowledge. I suppose they'll keep the TSR format with Czabe doing the show solo from 4-5 pm and then having the other guy (Loverro, Knoche, etc) come in from 5-7 pm. Which may work better. I do think that having more people on the set detracts from the show. I'd rather hear a show with a strong individual personality, like I was used to hearing back in the day in Philly, and down here with Ken Beatrice. I suppose Chad Dukes has his own show on the Fan, but have never really been enamored with him.
  24. Andy and Steve led off one of the shows late last week by attempting to discuss the Eaton trade to the Nats. I say "attempting," because Andy pretty much defaulted to "I don't know a whole lot about Eaton, and we just have to see how it works out anyway." And while its true that you won't fully be able to assess the trade until the players involved start performing......geez Andy, isn't it your job as a sports talk show host to at least research the player and perhaps read articles on what others think about the trade? He is so lazy.......just relies on his historical Redskins knowledge.
  25. Well, although I think we're still in pretty good shape for the paloffs, guess we have to start asking if we prefer to play the NFC North or the NFC South winner.
