Ahh, Mort......

I'd take Parcells in a minute. Let him find a GM he'd work with.....or really call Bill the GM but let him hire an Asst GM who he lets do all the dirty work like the cap and stuff.

anyway, Parcells won't come to D.C. I think, I don't think that's even an option. However, that would raise the chances of Ray Lucas being our starter next year.....or Mirer....hahahaha.

Actually Al, I love Parcells. I adore him. I would lust over the grass on the sidelines upon which his feet stepped. However, as I said a year ago when we were looking for a coach and I'll repeat now, I don't think Parcells is the direction we should go. He's a short-timer right now. He'll come in, do everything possible to get the team to win right away, but, he isn't a builder. He's not going to leave this team in position to carry on with what he started, but, fall back, retool, then start again.

And since he won't be here 10 years, it's not a move I'd prefer to think about. That said, other than Gibbs, I don't know that there is a better coach than Parcells and I can certainly overcome any of my questions for the good of the team if we are to go with him smile.gif.

This whole damn thing has been about rumor and specualtion. That is why I blame Danny. This is becoming a media frenzy, yet the man who owns the Club does nothing, says nothing, and that is what continues to drive this media frenzy.

Like I said on CP, how about this as an off the wall speculation courtesy of your truly,

Snyder hates the media, we all know that. He is mad he isn't having fun with his $800 mil toy. So what is the next best thing. Sit at his desk, tell Pepper and toher sto leak the firing of Marty to Mort, Len, and Clayton, stories come up on the Internet, basing it on "sources and fact" that Marty will be fired today. Today ends, Marty is coach. Next morning Snyder reads the articles, sits back in his chair with his cup of coffee and laughts his a$$ off. Then he decised to leak to a coach firend of his. Nother story by Mort, another laugh for Dan. Screw the media. If I can't play with my franchise, I'll play with the media!

To be honest I do hope the media gets it right today and we have resolution one way or the other. If they don't, they'll just write the same story and say Tuesday is the day. But, I'd like to see some finality to this and set the direction we need to go in the future so we can turn our attention to that debate rather than this one smile.gif.

Right on Art.

It's a little bit frustrating to see some teams signing their own players to contracts while the Skins remain in limbo.

Make a decision one way or another and let's look to the future and making this team better. How many more offseasons do the Skins have to go through with their hands tied behind their backs as the franchise undergoes new ownership or a new coaching staff?

and that all is what I am afraid of. I am petrified that our free agents are going to start looking elsewhere, that other ptoential free agents that could help this team, will go elsewhere because of the uncertainty and the instability that engulfs this team right now, and that is precisely why I blame Snyder. He has not responded to any rumors, he has not supported his coach, he has just hid himself in Redskins Park. That my firends is my PROBLEM with Dan Snyder.

The buzz doesn't matter and I also agree we should just get on with it. We do know that if all the agents and reps are meeting today, we shouldn't expect anything tonigt, because of the press conferences, if any, the shifting of personnel from one town to another, contacts with family, players, NFLPA and the like. Couple that with an intense Playoff weekend, security, the war effort and it won't be confirmed officially until at least Monday night or Tuesday.

what about this scenario?

Dan is going to hire Beathard as GM. Spurrier has said no to the Redskins.

Beathard and Snyder have agreed on who they want to replace Marty but that candidate whether HC or assistant was in the playoffs and nothing could be done until after this weekend's games at the earliest.

Meanwhile because Marty has remained firm in his determination to resist a GM and work with Snyder, Snyder has decided to let Marty dangle a bit before he gets his big paycheck to exit.

Dan Snyder is not obligated to respond to every rumour/speculation that makes it in the press. Heck he'd have little else to do if he actually did.

However, I don't believe it would hurt if Snyder came out and said something along the lines of....

"The Washington Redskins are pleased with the present coaching staff and confident in the direction the team is headed."

OR

"The Washington Redskins are always exploring every avenue to improve the ball club."

To leave the media in the wind is fine and dandy but to leave EVERYBODY - including the present coaching staff, administration and the fans - hanging out to dry leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I am on record as saying I hope the team goes in a new direction with a GM and Head Coach as separate jobs and with individuals that are on the same page, working in the same direction.

At the same time, I see the endless rumors and speculation that are left to sit day after day, as being injurious to the team.

It gives the perception that the owner is negotiating to replace Marty while he leaves Marty to stew in his office at Redskins Park, even if that is not the case.

If the Redskins do decide to go in another direction, Snyder should come out and make a statement as early as possible as JKC did in 1981 with Jack Pardee.

Lost in some of the balance I've brought to the recent Marty love fest is that I actually still support Marty, but, that support is far less enthusiastic than it was. Spurrier excites me for the unknown quality he might bring. I can't deny I'd be very, very curious about what Spurrier might do in this league and would like seeing him as coach of the Redskins. But, that want is countered by the fact that Marty does deserve a second season after this one, though he does under the right set of rules and not under the existing set.

If Spurrier wasn't looking for a job, I'd bet even under teh existing set, Marty would survive. He yet still may. But, the fact that an option of some interest is available might just make it easier to go that direction. I'm not worried about free agents yet because there's several weeks before they can start looking.

unfortunately, saying you would support Marty if he didn't have to maintain control over personnel and the ability to sign his entire family to the coaching staff, is like saying you like scorpions except for the stinger. smile.gif

Marty's Waterloo is that he is a control freak. That tendency had been kept in check in for the most part in Cleveland and KC by a pair of strong-willed GM's in Ernie Accorsi and Carl Peterson. Nevertheless, his teams still fell short in the playoffs when facing teams that had more balance on both sides of the ball.

But finally in charge of his own alchemist's shop, Marty is not going to renegotiate that contol out of his life at age 58 after just one season where he feels he did a good job.

(of course with his ego I wonder when he would admit he did a lousy job!)

That is simply unrealistic.

I am sure that control is exactly one of the reasons, other than the easy money, that landed him here in the first place.

So, let's look at Marty without rose-colored glasses on. As a combination GM/Coach Schottenheimer has had his wins and losses, hence the 8-8 record. I don't see at age 58 the room for growth or development that I see in 38 year old Jon Gruden or Steve Mariucci.

Marty is a finished product and you either accept him or not as he is.

I think we should allow him to enjoy an early retirement if Snyder's dollars are availabe for use smile.gif
