Don Banks Inside the NFL

Don't you just know that Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis enjoyed beating the Redskins in his first trip back to Washington since serving as the team's defensive coordinator in 2002 under Steve Spurrier? Lewis was the de facto head coach that season in Washington, helping the ridiculously unprepared Spurrier through any number of situations that a defensive coordinator usually doesn't have to worry about. That the Redskins were even able to get to 7-9 that season had as much to do with Lewis as anyone.

And while we're on the topic of Washington, nice call, Joe Gibbs, on the quarterback front. But you benched Mark Brunell in favor of Patrick Ramsey about, oh, seven weeks too late.

And he left us to be a head coach. It's not like we fired him or something.

because hacks like Banks need to make something up so they can appear smarmy and condescending to the Skins.

I don't get the whole revenge thing being played up here and during the broadcast yesterday. Lewis was told he'd be let out of his contract if a coaching opportunity came along and that word was honored. He has no ill feelings toward the Redskins team or organization.

This may answer the question:

5. You have to believe that 17-10 defeat of Washington was gratifying for Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis, and not just because it marked the first time under quarterback Carson Palmer that the Bengals won consecutive games. No, it came at the expense of a club that could've hired Lewis as a head coach -- not once but twice - but instead passed him over for Marty Schottenheimer and Steve Spurrier.

That's completely imaginary. Lewis was never considered as a coaching candidate here. Hell, if Banks wants to be really picky, he could use every single team the Bengals play as a "revenge" game because they had every single opportunity to sign him as a head coach as any other. That's just stupid.
