Big Tuna, Next?

For a guy that's recently said he's coached his last game, Parcells statement a couple days ago sounds like he's being rather coy (again) about future coaching possibilities.

I know Dano wanted him as his first choice not too long ago. Even before he wanted SS (or Marty).

I'm just wondering, on the remote chance that SS falls flat on his face, is The Tuna next in line to take a truck load of Dano's dollars?

It sure seems Bill is not closing any doors.

Before anyone goes off the deep end with insults about how impossible this seems, remember this time last year, it seemed quite impossible Marty would be shown the door in favor of SS, especially after winning 8 of his last eleven games.

[ March 19, 2002, 12:01 PM: Message edited by: shamaran ]

Parcells showed by his indecision with the Bucs that he has one foot in coaching and one out. Teams needed a greater commitment than that now that football is a 365 day a year business.

it used to be after the final game of the season you disappeared for 4 or 5 months and then reappeared for camp.

now, planning for free agency and the players' fitness regimes are ongoing with only a couple of weeks break in most cases for family vacations, etc.....

Parcells lost credibility on this one. He WAS a great coach.

But if he is coming back at 60-75% commitment, I wouldn't sign him to big bucks.

That would be a big mistake.

I for one would love to know what parcells criteria is. I thought he was going to Tb but that fell through. Was that because of the Glazers or is Bill just being wishy washy? No one saw Marty's firing coming, but I honestly believe Snyder finally got his choice and will stick with it for a while.

No doubt Parcells is a great coach, but there's one thing about the guy that really bothers me. He always seems to end up leaving teams in the lurch. Heck he even seems to enjoy it. The Giants, Pats and Jets have all suffered from Post-Tuna Stress Disorder of one form or another, and now the Bucs are getting it ... and he didn't even coach for them! It wouldn't shock me in the least if Parcells 'toyed' with coaching for the Redskins if only to boost his already over-inflated ego. I also wouldn't be suprised if Snyder got caught up in that dance.

I just hope it doesn't happen.

there is zero chance of that happening unless Spurrier goes 2-14 or has a similar disaster to what George Seifert created in Carolina.

of course Spurrier is setting up something of a high wire act, taking guys that others think can't play or can play some and figuring he can coax a very effective game out of them.

the receivers I am less worried about, but if we don't get Blake then I the qb situation to me falls into a dark black hole of ex-Bears Wuerffel and perhaps Matthews.

you know what really burns? Matthews and Wuerffel were BACKUPS on a team that admitted after the season it would be looking to upgrade its quarterbacks.

Any owner that even TALKS to Parcells from now on must be desperate, foolish, or both.
