I went there when I visited London at the age of 14, and remember wandering a block or two behind the facade of tourist friendly venues. I felt more comfortable/safer walking through the streets of Jerusalem than I do in certain parts of D.C. The fact that soldiers have to get around on their own and keep their M-16s on them tends to put a damper on street crime, as far as I could tell.
