NFL doesn't need 32 g-league teams, that's true. But why? That's the point I never get from the "minor league football" advocates. Baseball has a hundred-year minor league infrastructure in place (though minor league teams still fold all the time) AND baseball careers can last 20 years. You can give a guy years of training because - outside of power pitchers - the sport doesn't chew you up. I saw Dustin Pedroia in Pawtucket in 2006, and it was glaring how good he was. And 14 years later, we now in the "Does he have one more run left in him?" stage of his career. If you put a guy in "developmental football" at 22, the two years, is he going to be "ready?" or is he going to be used up? Also, where do you put these teams and when do they play? Spring football clearly does not work. That also means that the guys you want to "develop" may have to play 12 months a year. And are you going to put minor league football in a place like Austin or Birmingham in the fall? Those teams may have a little competition.
