Destino
4 hours ago, visionary said: This seems risky.... Now is not the time to give Maduro a useful external enemy by getting drawn into into a small armed confrontation. The international community should start sending in aid where directed to do so by Guaido, and shut off all contact with Maduro or his government. Especially South America. I dont hold much hope that even that will get the communists to walk away peacefully. Evidence that Maduro is dismantling Venezuela’s democracy has not swayed the socialist/communist faithful. They don’t care about democracy. They never have. They’ve got power now and won’t give up an inch, or Maduro, without assurances that they’ll remain in power. visionary
I mean she could at least look up the situation before commenting. A lot of liberal Venezuelans are pissed at her on twitter now. It's one thing to be against intervention, but at least get the facts right. No Excuses
The rise of authoritarianism is a global phenomena. You would think that anti-authoritarian sentiment of the American left would also reflect in their foreign policy views. Instead, we get a heaping turd of “it’s not our business”. The left is so impotent on defense and foreign policy issues, that we end up importing bad ideas from the right when we do come in power. From the right, we get the **** foreign policy of befriending some dictators, while pretending we care about democracy in some parts of the world. There is simply zero will in any national party to defend democracy globally with moral clarity.

Yeah, they pretended to care about global democracy while chumming around with dictators they liked. Not good enough but better than others. nonniey
Wagner Group is a fig leaf mercenary group directed by the Kremlin. The advantage for Russia is it can deny using official Russian soldiers the disadvantage (for them) is opposing governments /opponents are also afforded this fig leaf when attacking them (ie Battle of Kashem in Syria when US/Coalition forces killed quiet a few of them). This isn't good news as it looks like Maduro will get the support he needs to crush the opposition one way or another.
