you're overlooking another part of an animal being helpless. Trap it somewhere it can't let itself out and it can't call out for help if it's sick or injured

Probably not loud enough for anyone to hear, anyway.

But whether its not being able to call out for help, too afraid to call out, or what have you, the result is the same... Ongoing abuse that eventually leads to death if the issue is not addressed.

Someone said the ratcheted anger towards those who abuse dogs is because they're animals, and women can leave, etc... Basically they have full control of their surroundings and deserve less sympathy. My point is that is not really true. You psychologically manipulate a person, beating them and accosting them, and eventually you strip away their sense of self worth, their freedom, their social lives, and you basically have nothing more than your own personal pet to do whatever you want to.

They cant stand up for themselves, they don't ask for help. They've developed ptsd like symptoms and trap themselves, further playing into the hands of their abusers.

To not feel as much sympathy for a human abuse victim compared to the abuse of a dog, imo, exbibits a lack of deeper understanding of the psychological effects of domestic violence.

I feel this, I feed more kitties on my very large covered back deck (shelter), with a doghouse on it that faces the house (to keep wind out).

In Zoroastrian beliefs, a man who kills a dog must carry out a list of 18 major penances to avoid hellfire and damnation in the afterlife. (One of the penances is to kill 10,000 cats). When a person dies, mourners are supposed to find 3 stray dogs to feed. If ever there were an indication of a revelation having divine origins, this would be my choice....
