The passing of heroes

Two noteworthy veterans passed within the last few days, Lynn "Buck" Compton, portrayed so ably in Band of Brothers by Neal McDonough, and Van Barfoot, recipient of the Medal of Honor for action in Italy during WWII.

Not to be maudlin but both were outstanding in their service to this country and deserve a least a moment's remembrance. Both served honorably, touched the lives of those that served with them for the better and then went on to lead exemplary lives.

True heroes are not made by their exploits or actions, but moreso by their humility and the expression of their character throughout their lives. In a time when the term hero gets tossed around too easily, it might pay to take a moment and read some of the back story on these men and others who genuinely earned the title.

Thanks, LD, for bringing the passing of these great men to our attention. I would strongly encourage everyone to take a couple of minutes and read the two stories in the OP. Absolutely fascinating.

May God rest them, and protect the heroes of this generation.

Done, LD. Thanks for posting. Stories like this are important, imo. And I'll add a thought of thanks for those who are part of the reality that for every minute of every day that are heroes all over this planet of all types in all sorts of roles in life who pass without similar worthy notice.
