DEFEAT

Giants 17 - Redskins 14

:helmet:

Well I told you once and I told you twice

But ya never listen to my advice

You don't try very hard to please me

With what you know it should be easy

Well this could be the last time

This could be the last time

Maybe the last time

I don't know. Oh no. Oh no

Welcome to the final game of the 2010 season for the Washington Redskins. Today’s match up against Sheli Manning could be the last time we actually see any Redskins football for some time as there’s yet a CBA in place for next season. A lot of questions still need to be answered as we get ready to head off into the Off Season.

1) Is next year’s QB already on the roster? And if so, who?

2) Can Kemo come back in year two from an Achilles injury & be a dominant Nose Tackle in Haslett’s 3-4?

3) Free Agency - With it basically being last years & this year’s Free Agent class, just how many holes can we fill?

4) Haynesworth - Cut our losses or still try to get something for him?

5) VJack - Will he get tagged so the Chargers can still try to get something for him or do they let him just walk?

6) Will we abandon the burgundy pants for the gold pants all together?

Bottom line is this. The Skins NEED to win this game. New York is still in Playoff contention. They need to beat us & have Da Bears beat the Packers. In Green Bay. So good luck with that. The main reason the Skins need to win this game is this. We’ve played the Giants every year since 1932 with New York leading the regular season series 90-61-4. The teams’ 155 matchups make them each other’s most frequent opponent. The clubs have also split a pair of playoff meetings. Yet the Giants have won the last five meetings and eight of the last nine. The Redskins only win over that span came in 2007. So we need this win to show that we can beat these ****ers. And to play spoiler to Eli’s Super Bowl dreams.

The Skins are 37-41-2 as the home team & 5-7-1 against the Giants at FedEx Field. Today’s game will mark the 15th time the teams have played in a regular season finale, but only the second time since 1983 and third time since 1959. The Redskins have won both post-merger meetings (1983, 2007).

WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK

• The two long-standing rivals closing their regular season slates against each other for the 15th time, but only the third time

since the 1970 merger.

• The Redskins and Giants meeting for the 156th time, making them each other’s most common opponent.

• The Redskins selling out a home game for 358th consecutive time, including playoff games. It will mark the 138th consecutive sellout at FedExField, which accounts for all regular season, postseason and preseason contests.

• The Redskins winning at least three NFC East games for the third time in four seasons (2007-08).

• The Redskins earning their fifth win this season over teams that currently have at least eight wins.

• The Redskins tying an NFL record by playing a fifth overtime game in a season, joining the 1983 Green Bay Packers. The 2010 Redskins are tied with 11 other teams for second.

• The Redskins tying an NFL record by winning four overtime contests in a season, joining the 2003 Carolina Panthers.

• The Redskins adding to their 26 takeaways, which is their most since 2005 (28). The last time the Redskins had more than 28 takeaways in a season was 2003 (30).

• The Redskins recording two interceptions, which would give them 15 on the season and be their most since 2005 (16).

• The Redskins adding to their 12 completions of at least 40 or more yards, tied for the fourth-most in the league behind Philadelphia (14), Denver (13) and San Diego (13). Washington also has 12 runs of at least 20 yards, which makes them one of only five teams with double digit totals in 40-yard pass plays and 20-yard runs.

• Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan earning his 161st overall victory as a head coach, tying him with Bill Cowher for 15th place in NFL history.

• The Redskins adding to their eight completions of at least 50 yards on the season, which is tied with Oakland and Philadelphia for the most in the NFL. Wide receiver Anthony Armstrong has three receptions of at least 50 yards, tied with Chicago’s Johnny Knox, New Orleans’ Robert Meachem and Tennessee’s Kenny Britt and Nate Washington for third-most in the league behind Pittsburgh’s Mike Wallace (4) and Philadelphia’s DeSean Jackson (6). Redskins tight end Fred Davis and San Francisco’s Vernon Davis are the only players at their position to have two catches of at least 50 yards. In fact, Davis has two of the 11 receptions by the league’s tight ends this season to cover at least 50 yards.

• Armstrong notching 13 receiving yards to give him on the season. With Santana Moss already having 1,041 receiving yards, it would mark the first time since 1999 that two Redskins wide receivers topped the 800-yard mark. That year Michael Westbrook had 1,191 and Albert Connell registered 1,132. Armstrong’s 787 receiving yards on the season are already the most for any Redskins wide receiver other than Moss since 2004 (Laveranues Coles – 950).

• If Armstrong and Chris Cooley (796) reach 800 receiving yards, it would mark the first time the Redskins will have had three players with that many since 1989 when Gary Clark (1,229), Art Monk (1,186) and Ricky Sanders (1,138) accomplished the feat.

• Brandon Banks registering 55 punt return yards, which would move him past Eric Metcalf’s 2001 total of 412 and give him the most for a Redskins player since Brian Mitchell (506) in 1998. Banks is currently third in the NFL with 358 punt return yards.

• Banks returning a punt for a touchdown and becoming the first player to return a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the same season since Brian Mitchell in 1997.

• Banks becoming the second Redskins player in history with two kickoff returns for touchdowns in the same season and the first since Eddie Saenz in 1947. As a team, the Redskins have had two kickoff returns for a touchdown three times – in 1942, 1947 and 2005.

• Tight end Chris Cooley making seven receptions to (421) for fifth-place in Redskins history and the most ever by a tight end.

• Cooley adding to his 415 career catches, the 24th-most ever by a tight end and moving past Brent Jones (417), Charlie Young (418), Jerry Smith (421), Bob Tucker (422), and Jay Novacek (422) on the all-time list.

• Cooley adding to his 4,585 career receiving yards, the 37th-most NFL history among tight ends and passing BobTrumpy (4,600) and Jay Novacek (4,630) on the list.

• Linebacker London Fletcher playing in his 208th consecutive game. Fletcher is currently tied for the longest streak in the NFL with Tampa Bay’s Ronde Barber and Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning.

• Fletcher starting his 167th straight contest. He is currently third among all NFL players in consecutive starts behind Manning (207) and Barber (182). Fletcher has the longest consecutive starts streak among active linebackers by 71 games over Dallas’ Bradie James (95).

• Fletcher registering a forced fumble, which would tie his career high of four, which he set in 2001 as a St. Louis Ram.

• Quarterback Rex Grossman becoming the first Redskin to pass for seven touchdowns over a three-game span since Jason Campbell in 2009 (Weeks 12-14).

• Grossman becoming the first Redskin to pass for eight touchdowns over a three-game span since Mark Brunell in 2005 (Weeks 5-7).

• Grossman throwing for four touchdowns in one game, becoming the sixth Redskin to do it twice in a career, joining Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgensen (9), Billy Kilmer (2), Eddie LeBaron (2), Joe Theismann (3), Mark Rypien (5). Grossman could join Baugh (three time in 1943, twice in 1948), Jurgensen (three in 1964, three in 1967), and Rypien (twice in 1989) as the only ones to do it multiple times in the same season.

• Cornerback DeAngelo Hall making an interception and surpassing his previous career high of six set in 2005. An interception would give Hall seven, the most for a Redskin since Martin Mayhew had seven in 1990.

• Wide receiver Santana Moss making one reception to give him 85 on the year, a new career single-season high surpassing the 84 he had in 2005.

• Moss notching 100 receiving yards in a game for the fourth time this season, which would tie the second-highest single-season total of his career (2003), trailing only the five he had in 2005.

• Moss recording 65 receiving yards which would move his season total past the 1,105 he had in 2003 as a New York Jet and be the second-highest single-season total of his career.

• Moss adding to his 8,484 receiving yards, the 63rd - most in NFL history and passing Paul Warfield (8,565) and Laveranues Coles (8,609) on the all-time list.

• Moss adding to his 584 career receptions, the 65th-most in NFL history Tiki Barber (586), Marcus Allen (587), Fred Biletnikoff (589) and Harold Carmichael (590) on the alltime list.

• Moss adding to his 52 career touchdown catches, which is tied for 87th all-time. With one he would tie Elroy Hirsch, Donald Driver (active) and Isaac Curtis for 84th-place. With two he would tie Wesley Walls, Amani Toomer, and Ricky Proehl for 81st.

• Linebacker Brian Orakpo recording a sack to give him nine on the season. Coupled with his 11 as a rookie last year, Orakpo would become the first Redskin since Charles Mann in 1986 and 1987 to register at least 9.5 sacks in consecutive seasons.

• Running back Keiland Williams rushing for one touchdown to give him four on the season, which would tie him with Reggie Evans (1983), Mike Thomas (1975) and Kelvin Bryant (1986), for the second-most by a Redskins rookie since the 1970 merger. Skip Hicks holds the record with eight.

Also of note is this interesting stat I came across yesterday:

active.gif

Several times I’ve compared Shanny to Bellichick. Here you can see he’s only 9 wins behind him. But that’s not the interesting thing that pops out to me. You have 3 of the top 5 active winningest coaches in the NFC East. Meanwhile, Jerry Jones has already pulled a page out of Dan’s playbook from last year & interviewed a minority candidate, Ray Sherman, their WR coach so he can go ahead & give Garrett the reins in Dallas.

It's cold & rainy here at FedEx, yet it's still warmer then it was last week in Jacksonville.

Fashion Police Update - Skins wearing GOLD PANTS (which are money) with the Burgundy top while New Yack is wearing the white jersey/grey pants combo, but no one really cares about NY. :)

NY fans in our house update - Few people starting to find their way into the Lower Bowl. One End Zone corner(Giants tunnel) is already pretty much all blue.Lower Bowl on the Giants sideline is pretty much empty seats but the fans there, are all pretty much wearing blue as well.

Don't forget you can follow both Murf @HomerMcFanboy & myself @TKextremeskins.

Skins hold the Giants to a 3 & out on the opening drive. Torrain hits a few good runs on the Skins opening drive but they can't convert when needed & punt. Giants march down the field, loose their Center (Seubert) with a dislocated kneecap & are held to a field goal after a few unstoppable runs by Bradshaw. Sellars returns a kickoff to start the Skins 2nd drive.Torrain rips the Giants D for 16 yards & then for 14 yards. Both runs get a loud pop from the crowd. So does the 8 yard pass to ATV. ATV runs for 4 yards & excites the crowd again. Rex throws incomplete to Keiland Williams, then completes one to Sellers for 9 yards. 3rd & 1. Torain runs for a loss of 2. 4th down. Gano to kick & it's WIDE LEFT & the Boo Birds are out. Giants take over. Skins' D need to step it up here since the offense stalled. Sheli picked on Buchanon one time to many. Play with fire enough & you'll get burned. Eli picked off.Rex incomplete to Moss in the corner endzone. Seemed to be a timing miscue on that woulda been a touchdown. End of the First Quarter. QB rating for Rex- 56.2. QB rating for Sheli- 56.3

Skins' offense stalls out to begin the 2nd Quarter on a Grossman fumble, recovered by NY. Osi gets credit for a sack on Rex. Skins' D stuffs Jacobs for no gain. Jacobs runs for 3 yards. 3rd down. Eli complete to Haggan. 1st down. Eli passes for 17. Eli under pressure, incomplete to Boss. Shoulda been a turnover there. Bradshaw runs for 3 yards. Eli complete to Clayton for 5 yards. Rocky can't tackle. 4th down, Banks to receive. Giants kick it out of bounds for a touchback. Banks scare them. :) TV timeout.Seems like the crowd only comes alive when Torain touches the ball or we knock the **** outta a Giant. Armstrong over the middle for a 1st down. Torain runs for a loss of 1. 2nd down & 11.Torain stuffed by Thomas for no gain. Skins stall AGAIN & punt. TV timeout while the cheerleaders do their thing again. :) Manning complete for 16 to Ware. 1st down. Buchanon makes the stop on Mannigham for no gain. Defense finally steps up & cause NY to be stuffed. Manning pump fakes across the field, then completes 12 yards over the middle to Hagan. Eli throws a wild one, incomplete. Rak holds Bradshaw to 1 yard. 3rd & 9. Eli to Hagan for a 1st down. Eli to Boss complete, down at the 2. 1st & Goal NY. Jacobs gets 2 yards & the touchdown on a stretch to the right while Skins D was clogging the middle. Kick is good, NY 10. Skins 0. Banks back to receive. He takes it about a yard deep, returns it 21 yards & is down at the Skins 20. TV timeout. Our cheerleaders look really, really good in burgundy stretch pants. I'm just sayin'. :) Grossman incomplete to Armstrong to start this drive. Crowd is DEAD quiet. Rex for 16 yards to Cooley which wakes up the crowd as we get the "COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLEY" chant. Rex complete to Fred Davis for 19. 1st & 10 fron the NY 45 yard line. TWO MINUTE WARNING - TV Timeout. Back to watching our cheerleaders. :) Rex complete to Moss for 18 yards. 1st & 10 on the NY 27 yardline. Rex to Keiland for 23 yards, nice block by Lictensthoweveryouspellit. Torain runs to the 1 yard line. Skins burn their first time out.TOUCHDOWN REDSKINS. Rex to Sleepy Davis in the corner. Gano's kick is good & it's NY 10, Skins 7. And the crowd is right back in this as you can loudly hear them sing Hail To The Redskins through the glass windows here. :) After the kickoff, NY takes over at their 41. Bradshaw runs for 3 & NY takes a timeout. 2nd & 7 with 10 seconds to go. Eli incomplete pass. 3rd & 7 with 5 seconds to go. And they down it to run out the clock. Skins will receive after the half.

And we're back. Banks refuses to take a knee in the endzone & takes it to the 28. Rex to Cooooooley. Rex to Cooley again with a defensive pass interference call for another 1st down. Torain runs for a gain of 1. Sellers drops one on the sidelines. Skins are 0-4 on 3rd downs so far. Rex incomplete to Roydell Williams & the Skins are forced to punt. 44 yard punt stuffs the Giants at their 5. Defense needs a pick here. TV timeout & I'm enjoying the cheerleader rotation below us. :) Bradshaw runs to the right for a gain of 3. Eli unloads to Manningham for a 92 yard touchdown, scorching Pro Bowl CB DeAngelo Hall. Ugh. Kick is good, NY 17 Skins 7. Time to get back in this for the Skins. Banks back again. Refuses to take a knee in the endzone again & returns to the 16 yard line. Skins need to get some points on this drive.

Kei;and Williams runs for a gain of 4. Rex does his best McNabb impression & completely misses Armstrong while dumping it in the dirt in front of a defender. Cooley complete for a 1st down. Crowd is alive again with the Cooooooooooooooooooooley cheer. Torain still out. Rex ha another batted ball intended for Armstrong. Rex throws a near interception, forces 4th down. Cue the punt team. Ugh.

NY downs it on the sideline at about the 11. 1 & 10 Skins at their 11. Torain back in.Torain gets a yard. 2nd down at the 12. Cooooooooooooley complete over middle as Torain ha a nice block that saves Rex's ass. Rex with a PA fake that results in an interception. ****! Eli incomplete to Hagan. 2nd down. Timeout NY. Bradshaw stopped for a loss of 2. NY 4-10 on 3rd downs. Eli to Bradshaw , with a nice hurdle, for another NY completion. NY MISsES THE FG. Wide right. skins take over & Trent Williams gets called for a false start. Torain runs for a gain of 4. Skins at their own 28. 2nd & 11. Rex to Santana for a 1st down.Flag on the play. Illegal motion on the Offense. 1st &15. Rex complete to Armstrong for a 1st down but theres a holding penalty on the Offense. 1st & 25. Rex complete to Moss for 15 yards. 2nd & 10. Terrance Austin for a HUGE gain in double coverage. 28 yard gain. 1st & 10 at the NY 17. Skins take a timeout. Quiet Riot's Come On Feel The Noise is playing again. :) Rex to Moss who coughs it up & inside the RedZone & the Giants recover. Defense REALLY needs to go into ball recovery & scoring mode right now. Jacobs runs for a gain of 1. 2nd & 9. Jacobs runs for 4. Eli has all day, finally scrambles to the right & throws it away as Rak bears down on him. NY to punt. Banks returns it to damn near the 40. He's been close on the last two to breaking it wide open & scoring. Skins with a 1st down in Giant territory. Grossman over the middle for 9 yards. InconsistentRex incomplete to Armstrong. InconsistentRex incomplete to Cooley as Rex slips on the turf & tries to unload it before being sacked for a loss. Torain runs it on 4th down. It's not enough & NY takes over. Bradshaw stuffed for a loss of 2. 2nd down Giants. Fletcher had Eli running for his life, causes an incomplete pass. 3rd & 12. Eli dumps it off to Bradshaw for no gain. NY forced to punt. Banks back again & getting the crowd into it. Giants know he's gonna break one open so they shank it out of bounds into their own sideline. Rex hits Armstrong for a 64 yard (career long) TOUCHDOWN. Gano's kick is good & Skins are now only down by 3. If only Gano hadn't missed that FG earlier...... Crowd is ALIVE right now. Gano beautifully kicks off to the corner pylon, about half a foot in front of the endzone, ruled a touchback. Giants at their 20 & Jacobs gets stuffed for no gain. 2nd & 10. Crowd is at their loudest. Eli escapes the pressure, gets it off for a miricale catch & Defense gets called for holding. Five yard penalty on Fletcher. Jacobs runs for a loss of 2. Giants take a timeout. It does them no good as Bradshaw only runs for 1 yard. 3rd & 11. Pass complete for 14 yards. Damnit! Skins are stuffing the run, but getting killed on sideline passes when they to stop the Giants. Skins burn a timeout. 2nd & 8. Giants try to right again, get stuffed for only a 1 yard gain. 3rd & 7. Giants go 4 wide. Eli SACKED! Tosses to Bradshaw for 2 yards. Sack doesn't count but NY is forced to punt. Awful kick if you're Banks, not so bad if you're the Giants & are scared ****less of him returning it on you. :) Crowd breaks out into a GREEN BAY WON chant. Awesome! :ols:

Grossman complete to Moss for a 1st down. Two minute warning. Rex incomplete to Armstrong. Rex complete to Keiland Williams. 3rd & 4 from their 36. Incomplete to Moss. 4th & 4. Skins going for it. Incomplete to T.Austin. 1:03 left. Giants take over & take a knee. This one is over. Somewhere Gano is kicking his own ass for missing that FG earlier.

Any chance of a Beck sighting today, or are we riding the Rex bus for the duration?

Hard to say, but I doubt we see Beck. And we really don't need to see him. It's Rex's deal that's up at the end of the year, while Beck was extended when we plucked him from the Ravens.

You are an encyclopedia, TK!! Awesome stuff! Thanks!

We all need to keep our fingers cross / pray / hope / whatever - that a CBA does come to pass and no lockout occurs... I, myself, am going to be optimistic.. there WILL be professional football next year and our Redskins WILL beat the G-Men today!

Hail to the Redskins!!!

Okay, folks. It took a little longer than we would have liked, but photos and audio have been added to the thread. Enjoy them, because they're the last any of us are going to get for a while. Cheers.

Great job murf!
