Who's Shanny's Late Round RB?

With only 5 picks this year I dont see us drafting a running back unless we trade back and get some more picks. We have way to many holes on this team to be drafting our 3rd string running back.

If we didn't draft a RB this year I would like to see us going after Ryan Williams(VT) next year if he declares.

1. TD is not headed to Canton

I completely disagree.

TD was THE most dynamic Running back I have ever watched.

At 210lbs Davis ran with tremendous elusiveness and insane power.

You look at his stats and think hes not HOF worthy. Factor in his post season yards and his Super Bowl rings and go watch some Bronco`s games from between 95 and 98.

His carreer was cut short " Thanks to a tackle he made after an interception ".. But, I put him right up there with Brown, Sayers,Payton and Sanders any day of the week.

IMO.

Monterio Hardesty in the 4th.

Hardesty will never make it out of the third round and there's a good chance he'll go late in the second. His draft stock skyrocketed after the combine.

My RB wish list:

Joe McKnight USC - I know, I know, he’s projected to go in the 3rd, but I

think he's the future. Perfect size 6' 180lbs. Fast. One-cut downhill runner (shanny likey). Returns kicks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fliv9DNBfIg

Lonyae Miller Fresno - Fast. Good size 5'11" 220. STRONG. breaks tackles. good hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCeA-b_r6wM

Deji Karim Southern Ill - I usually don't like little backs (he's 5'8), but ever since spoles and MJD, I have started to come around. This guy's really fast. Elusive. Strong for size (19 bench press reps). Good hands. Returns kicks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej8pypXXA7k

Who would you guys like to see as our late-round RB pick?

I don't like McKnight at all. Lonyae Miller sounds good but I don't know enough about him. Deji Karim is probably the value back I would most like to see us take a chance on now that Hardesty is seemingly out of reach.

So I'd be willing to bet that Shanny is looking to the later rounds to add some youth to our RB corps. We already have CP and LJ who are both in the twilight of their careers, and Anthony Aldridge and PJ Hill. AA has some explosiveness, but Hill seems like fodder.

Shanny has quite a knack for finding RBs that fit his system late* in the draft. Examples not listed in any particular order-

Mike Anderson - 6th round

Olandis Gary - 4th round

Reuben Droughns - 3rd round

Terrell Davis - 6th round

Clearly, TD is the only one that is headed to Canton, but each of these guys were 1000 yrd rushers for Shanny.

Assuming that we take QB and OL for our first two picks (most agree are our two biggest needs), and we don’t have a 3rd (unless we trade down *fingers crossed*), then we should only consider those projected to go later than three.

*3rd round and later

Here is a look at all the RBs and where they are projected to go AS OF NOW. It currently changes and updates, but I'd like to see Ben Tate of Auburn here. His stock appears to be rising to the second or third, and I don't think Shanallen goes with a RB until the 4th, unless they trade back for a 3rd rounder.

Maybe Lamarcus Coker out of Hampton in the 7th, appears to have some decent Speed.

Try blinding speed. Man has serious wheels but has some off field issues.

I second that. Coker would be a great pickup in the last round. Blazing speed, and good production, and can also return kicks. He was kicked off Tennessee for smoking pot, and later joined Hampton. He appears to be a great fit for a zbs/one cut system - he's built like Portis was when Portis came out of Miami.

I'd like to see him as the RB we draft this year - with the holes we have (OT x 2, QB, NT), I don't think we can afford to draft a RB before round 7. JMO.

Pat Paschall. He is like Clinton Portis-lite when he was coming out of Miami (lacks the elite top end speed though). He is a very decisive runner that is more quick than fast, has shown that he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and is a very good pass blocker. He looks like a prime candidate as a 3rd down back in his rookie season.
I'll add James Starks.
I like him as a possible late round gem. 6'2" 218.

Times out between 4.42 and 4.58.

He was one of only 3 RBs at the combine to rank in the top 10 in the 40, vertical, broad jump, 3 cone drill and 20 yd shuttle. Hardesty and Tate were the other 2.

Missed 09 season with shoulder injury. Prior to injury was projected as a 3rd. Now he's projected in the 4-7 round.

He has a private workout scheduled with the Patriots. Just the type of guy to use a 6 or hopefully 7th on.

I can't beleive no one has said Jahvid Best. Prior to his injury last year he was considered the best if not one of the best RB in NCAA. Yeah he is undersized but he is blazing with 4.35 and since he is fast and shifty he fits well in the one cut system that Shanahan runs.

I really don't see him going as high as he is rated because of his size and injury history.

Depends on how he recovers and I hate taking guys that are injury risks but the man is damn good.

Its a shame that this isn't next year. Ryan Williams would be the absolute perfect back for Shanny's system.

Just the thought gives me shivers.

No one mentioned him because nobody thinks he'd be available in the late rounds. He's either the 2nd or 3rd best RB prospect in the draft and more than likely an early 2nd round pick. Would have easily been a 1st round pick if it hadn't been for that nasty concussion.

This.

Best will be one of the first 50 guys drafted.

I see a lot of people dropping Hardesty and Tate, but both of those guys will in all likelihood go before the 4th round too.

Can we just put in our 1st round pick next year on Ryan Williams? Just claim him now ahead of time or something?

Now you KNOW if a FSU fan is pulling for a Tech product he's legit.

If we aren't any good this coming year, I'm going to go against everything I've preached for years and advocate trading up to get him.

What is there not to like about Williams?

He's the perfect size at 5'10'' and a compact 205-210, he's an extremely decisive, quick runner, he can run with a little power when he has to, and he's an absolute lock to run in the 4.4 to 4.3 range. And that's without even looking at the insane year he had this past season.

I don't think I would trade up to get him, just because he's a RB and I don't know that any RB is worth trading up for in the first round.

But I would certainly love to have him.

Of course, it really depends on how we address the QB situation between now and then. 2011 will probably be a much better QB class, and we might be looking for a QB in the 1st round.

I'll certainly day dream about Christian Ponder throwing a screen to Ryan Williams against the Cowboys though.
