Redskins Blog: Colt Brennan Sees Potential In A Familiar Situation

Flawed statements? Again - you people have NOTHING. NOTHING whatsoever in terms of "why" he should or will be our starting QB. You conveniently left out the "31 other teams" piece of my quote...where I'm insinuating that the Redskins are the only franchise dumb enough to give consideration to CB5. So are you going to use (...keeping a 3rd string QB on IR...) as proof that he has a future / shot at starting QB for the Redskins or any other team in this league? For all we know they didn't give him an injury settlement because he's a nice guy and buys pineapples for players and coaches once a year.

OK, so now I'm on the same page. You are smarter than the Redskins and the only reason they keep people around is because they like nice people. The Redskins have no desire to win, nor do they have any fiscal sense because they value the occasional pineapples over paying someone several hundreds of thousands of dollars a yr. Check, I get where you are coming from. I don't really value your opinion, but it is a protected right (for now). I'll just wait for Colt to prove you wrong and watch as you change your opinion of Colt and start touting how you knew he was a winner from the beginning. Cheers!

...so all you have for Colt is that he connected on a 1 v 1 scenario against a 4 string cornerback.

-Ya thats it... Forget his first pre-season all together. I'm not even a big Colt supporter I want Clausen.

-And again, it was his last WR on the depth chart. His LT during those series? Didn't even make the team... You think Heyer is bad, how bad do you think the guy that couldn't even make a roster spot is.

I rest my case. 3 Red Zone INts...in 3 consecutive games...1 returned for a TD...and almost losing to the undrafted Chase Daniel.

-If you knew more about the Redskins you might know Chase Daniel was playing the same dumbed down version of Zorn's offense that Colt played in the year prior during pre-season. Colt did much better than Daniel did. Hence the reason Daniel was cut, and Colt was put on IR, rather than being cut.

Gee, what QB of the Patriots was drafted in the 6th round? How many times did 32 teams pass him by? How's he played over the years since he got his chance?

Give Colt a chance. JC has gotten how many chances and what has he done with them? 4-12 in 2009, no winning season out of him.

Brennan is 2-7 vs ranked teams, including the 41-10 shellacking by Georgia in his college career finale. Brady is 8-4 vs ranked teams, 5-1 in his final season at Michigan.

Brennan played in WAC, which is one of the weakest Div I-A conferences in the NCAA. Brady played in the Big Ten which has some of the best programs in the country including Ohio State, Penn State, University of Iowa...etc.

Brennan peaked in college and will do nothing at the pro level. Yes Brady was drafted in 6th round and has won 3 sbs, set td record, etc but that will NEVER happen again. Comparing Brennan/Brady just because they were drafted in the same round is absurd.

Brennan is not even close to Bradys talent...and I'm just talking college career.

All of you Colt-is-God fans need to understand the following:

You are on an island. 31 other teams, GMs, VPs, Owners, Scouts, talent evaluators, offensive coordinators, draft gurus, assistant coaches, trainers, etc................................ALL DISAGREE WITH YOU.

Colt is not God, he is however God fearing:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/sports/ncaafootball/24colt.html?pagewanted=all

Sure Colt wasn't picked by 31 other teams, that's an obvious fact, no need to keep stating this in your posts over and over again. But to say that everyone in all 31 organizations thinks Colt isn't NFL worthy is ludicrous.

C'mon, you know very well that not every stud/dud chosen during the draft is a unanimous pick by everyone in the team's organization...It's all about who calls the NFL draft shots for the team. It's a war room and the boss(es) have the final say. For some teams, owners, GM, VPs etc are shadow puppets, for others they are the real alpha males.

We know how JJ feels about him, ok, that's biased. But it's no secret how others view him. There's both good and bad opinions on Colt and that's fine.

I'm excluding JJ's take on Colt for obvious reasons, but here's others, some have since retired/moved on:

Chris Peterson, arguably one of the more underrated College football coaches (he was a college QB coach for Pitt and Portland State)

"Colt is as mobile and accurate quarterback that I've seen in a while," Boise State head coach Chris Peterson stated. "He has a great feel for the game and to stop Hawaii, you have to stop Colt."

Let's go to SEC country, granted this was said before the dismantling of Hawaii where Colt showed he is human and not a God:

Mark Richt

"There is no question he's the key," Georgia head coach Mark Richt said. "When you first hear about a guy having a lot of numbers, then you look at him and say, `Well gosh, he throws it 50 or 60 times a game, he ought to have a lot of numbers,' but after studying the film, he is really, really good. He's special."

Let's stay in SEC country, Mike Shula

“I think he’s a dangerous quarterback for a team to have to defend. He’s got a strong arm, he’s accurate and he’s not going to go down easy. And he can create on his own.”

http://alabama.scout.com/2/562776.html

Let's stay with BCS Head Coaches Joe Tiller:

Purdue coach Joe Tiller told Hawaii coach June Jones that Colt Brennan is the best quarterback he's seen.

http://archives.starbulletin.com/2006/11/28/sports/story01.html

Let's go to Pac-10, Ty Willingham:

"[brennan] has a wonderful knack for knowing where his people are and he has a unique release that he can almost release it underhand and get it to people, which you don't really see a lot of."

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskies/2004039184_uwfb28.html

Let's stay in the Pac-10, Dirk Koetter:

“Brennan is everything they said he was,” Koetter said. “We couldn’t get it going on offense and we couldn’t stop them on defense.”

Colt was one of the most enigmatic QBs in the draft and he continues to be an engima, a question mark for many. So until Shanny answers the question, the debate continues...

I'll add what JJ had to say about Colt. Remember gang, June Jones drafted Brett Favre, and Coached Warren Moon as well as Jeff George. He was also an NFL head Coach and chose to Coach Hawaii over the Chargers! He is far more of a QB Guru than Zorn ever was. " Colt Brennan is the best QB I have ever Coahed"!
