Divisional Playoff Predictions (pseudo "Man")

Divisional Playoff Weekend has long been my favorite sports weekend of the year. Four games, eight legitimate teams, shots at a Conference Championship and Super Bowl berth on the line ... love it. Maybe it goes back to the 80's, when the Skins were routinely on tap, and the chance to go to another Super Bowl was a realistic and enticing possibility. All I know is, even during the Wasteland Years under Norval, I still loved this particular weekend.

The wife and kids know Dad is going to watch the games. They know this because during the course of every season, I mention Divisional Playoff Weekend easily a half-dozen times. A month.

Thus, on the outside of the refrigerator, the family-planning calendar shows a clean slate for this weekend. On the inside of the refrigerator, there is a nice stock of icy ale. And a collection of appropriate munchery.

I love the weekend, I need the weekend. And yet ... something is missing. I am excited about my Weekend and all, and still ... something is amiss. And I just figured out what it is.

I'm having a Prediction Jones.

I miss it. I got used to it. I need to fix it.

Therefore ... here's a feeble and last-minute attempt to fill the gnawing void: A Mini-Prediction Competition for the rest of the playoffs and Super Bowl. No booty (bounty?), just for grins and bragging rights.

I have a general idea about "scoring" it, but will approach it one week at a time, depending on if anybody decides to do this.

I don't really want to get into the 1 and 2 point awards for getting close to the Total Points or Winning Margin. So ... we'll start with:

5 points for picking winners this weekend, and

3 points for closest to TP and/or WM (no 1 and 2 points like before, just 3 points for the poster(s) that get closest to the actual number in each category).

Max Points for any one game ... 11. [edit: Duh. where I got 12 I'll never know ... ]

So, if anyone is interested in throwing down again (such as it is), pick your games on this thread. I'll mark ‘em down and post results on Sunday night or Monday am, along with the guidelines for the Conference Championship round.

*

My predictions:

Philadelphia 17, Chicago 10 (27, 7)

Oakland 23, New England 17 (40, 6)

St. Louis 28 Green Bay 16 (44, 12)

Pittsburgh 16, Baltimore 13 (29, 3)

*

Have at thee.

[ January 19, 2002: Message edited by: Om ]

Oh really? Great minds must think alike, because you had the exact same scores as he did for the Bears-Eagles matchup and the Pittsburgh-Baltimore game. You were one point off on the Raiders-Pats, because he said 24-17.

And he predicted the Rams to defeat the Pack 85-80, and no, I'm not lying. Interesting that you had almost the same picks as he did.
