Slateman
I haven't gone skiing in forever, but since I'm home on leave I figured I would try and do some. Anyone been to either of these places in the last week or two? I'm usually disappointed by them, but maybe with the recent snowfall they'd be good? Also, if not there, where else? I'm looking for something I can make a day trip to. I'm in Fairfax right now.
DCsportsfan53
Go to Whitetail instead, much better than Liberty. It's the best it gets for a reasonable day trip from the DC area.
Sticksboi05
I ski'd at Massanutten during the President's Day Storm of 2003 so maybe my opinion is biased but it's fun. However once you're a legit skier it's best to head out to West Virginia. Day trip, go to Pennsylvania, not Liberty...too crowded. Whitetail is better. GoSkins561
Massofnothing. I was at Whitetail last Sunday night, lots of bare spots, Liberty probably isn't much better. With that said, Pennsylvania hard pack is Pennsylvania hard pack, I would go with which ever one is closest.
GoSkins561
Oh yeah I forgot, Seven Springs had some super deals a few weeks ago. 2 lift tickets, one night stay and breakfast for 149. You might want to check them out and the mountain is 100 times better.
WVUforREDSKINS
Seven Springs or Snowshoe... But between Massanutten or Liberty i'd take Massanutton
Slateman
Seven Springs is too far. We're looking to leave early in the morning, ski for a few hours and be back in the evening
Stadium-Armory
Whitetail is the ticket. Or come visit me and ski Vail. I went yesterday Pretty excited about 10 inches of fresh powder: China Bowl, with Holy Cross peak in the distance: *rubbing it in*
Perky72
*rubbing it in* haha. That is some gorgeous scenery, looks like a fantastic day too! I've only skied twice, once was on Massanutten. I'm so novice I can't really tell the value of a ski slope, though I accidentally went one or two trips too high on the lift and almost killed myself (and a few others) getting down. I guess if the OP is similarly unskilled the draw would be in the scenery of the slope, or the atmosphere of the bars and other entertainment at the site. Dammit, your pictures really make me want to go skiing again!

I can go down on the novice slopes without seriously endangering anyone. But some of my friends tricked me into going on the medium level slopes one time, it stopped being fun after the third face plant. I'm planning on going sometime in the next couple weeks. Hopefully there is still some fresh snow there.
Stadium-Armory
Sorry to derail your thread, but here are a few more from yesterday: Blue Sky Basin ski area at Vail. It isn't open yet, and we were oogling all the untracked snow: My buddy Matt making some turns in the powder: It was knee deep in spots:
GoSkins561
Nice pics SA, Colorado will spoil boarding/skiing on the east pretty quickly. I have been to Snowmass/Aspen and Steamboat, wouldn't mind checking out Vale/A Basin and Crested Butte. Fortunately I have a endless supply of free passes at Snowmass. SC_RedskinsFan
I went skiing at Massanutten Christmas week. It was good cause of the 2+ feet of snow, and i went early every morning so i could beat the crowd. That being said i prefer Snowshoe.
Slateman
The choice is between Wintergreen and Massanutten. Which is better?
TheGoodBits
The choice is between Wintergreen and Massanutten. Which is better? I am completely biased, just to let you know, but choose Wintergreen. You can check out the website to make sure but I think they're 100% open now, and making a ton more snow every night. I've never been to Massanutten, because I've got Wintergreen 20 minutes from my house, but I think Wintergreen has a little more terrain (actually upon looking up Massanutten's trail map, Wintergreen has quite a bit more. Choose Wintergreen). Wintergreen also has a couple high speed detachable lifts to give you more skiing time and less sitting on lifts. Plus it's absolutely gorgeous up there. WVUforREDSKINS
Best Mountain i've ever been to was blackcomb north of Vancouver (sister mtn of Whistler) a close second is Breckenridge, CO I have been to Vail, but don't know why, but I enjoyed Breckenridge much better. Major Harris
Go to Whitetail instead, much better than Liberty. It's the best it gets for a reasonable day trip from the DC area. i always like liberty better, but maybe because i'm a novice and there are more trails at liberty to learn to ski. whitetail goes from bunny to straight terror for a first time skier.
