BALLz
Anyone else think that a player hurt in the preseason or early in the regular and having their year ended by putting them on IR is somewhat unfair. Or an injuried player taking up a roster spot because a team doesn't want to put him on IR. I think the NFL should employ variances of IR. Like baseball does with the Disabled List. Something like a 4 week IR, 8 week IR and 10 week IR. Or something to that effect. Obviously you could also have Season IR for players who clearly wouldn't make back within the season. Players should be able to be place on any IR list at anytime in the season freeing up a roster spot. And when the player is eligable to return a player would be cut. BALLz
Yeah but don't you have to be put on the PUP list before the regular season starts.

IbleedBnG83
It prevents teams for "storing" players.
dockeryfan
Increase the roster size and the game day activations. Problem solved. Plus, you get more players employed, more competition, better product. It's win-win for the coaches, owners, players, fans...everybody involved. There is still the issue of an injured playing being forced to sit out a season due to an injury that could be healed in 5 or 6 weeks. Though I suposse with extra roster spots you wouldn't see the need to put a guy on IR.
HighOnHendrix
It prevents teams for "storing" players. Exactly. Sort of like in baseball (since that was brought up by the OP) when you come out of the game, you STAY out of the game. Keeps the teams from taking advantage too much. It's the way it is for a very good reason.
Grimm
I think an 8 game IR would be good, along with the current system.
sjinhan
It prevents teams for "storing" players. thats the key here... you know any changes done to the IR will get abused...
pjfootballer
Giibbs and Beathard were the masters of putting players in IR. Mark Rypien spent the first 2 years of his career on IR. He actually got a ring in SB 22. He's on the sidelines in Zubaz pants.
