redskns21
I was wondering if anyone was aware of any benefits for siping your tires. I'd never heard of it until today when I was pricing tires. They say that it helps in the elements by giving your tires more grip but I'm not sure it's worth the extra $55.00. Any help would be appreciated.
twa
I think it is a waste of money unless you are doing some serious driving. but here is some PR bs http://www.lesschwab.com/siping.asp http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/tireSiping.dos
Corcaigh
Mmm ... tire manufacturers spend many, many millions on R&D to give the best balance of grip and wear for the type of car and its performance characteristics. Given that, would you allow someone untrained take a sharp tool to the tread?
redskns21
Well, I'm not sure they're untrained as I believe they have a machine do the work but I could be wrong there. I don't believe that Les Schwab is out east but they are actually a very reputable company with the best customer service of really any company I've dealt with. You do bring up a good point though and I do thank you for your reply.

I agree. Even if some of the benefit claims are true, I'm sure you're losing something.
HighOnHendrix
Better off just to buy some good summer-only tires and just be careful in the rain. I use Sumitomo tires and highly recommend them. They are top-notch and are a great value (I buy them off Tire Rack for about $50 per tire for my Tiburon). da#1skinsfan
Firestone 721;) That tire sucked to begin with. Take your time choosing a good tire on tirerack and you shouldnt need any modifications to accomplish what youre looking for.
