BigMike619
http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/12/13/india.mumbai.suspect/index.html NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- The only surviving suspect in last month's attacks in Mumbai has written a letter to the Pakistan High Commission, or embassy, seeking legal aid, CNN's sister network in India reported Saturday, quoting a Mumbai police official. Investigators said that Mohammad Ajmal Kasab is from Faridkot village in the Okara district of Pakistan's Punjab province and that the other nine attackers also are from Pakistan. Pakistani officials have denied that assertion, blaming instead "stateless actors." Rakesh Maria, Mumbai's joint police commissioner of crime, said Saturday that Kasab's three-page letter was written in Urdu. In the letter, Kasab confesses his role in the attacks, CNN-IBN said. Tenjikuronin
I've heard that no lawyer in Mumbai is willing to defend this guy, which is why he's writing to his home country (which just makes Pakistan look all the worse). Most likely the state will assign him a lawyer....
twa
Seems only fair the Pakistani government provide legal help...perhaps from the intelligence budget? OT, but did they ever find a graveyard willing to take the dead terrorists?
Bang
:doh:Way to use a slur dude. Isn't the suffix "stan" meaning "the land of...", and as such, Pakistan is the Land of the Pakis? As Kazakhstan is the land of the Kazakhs,Turkmenistan is home of the Turkmen, Afghanistan home of the Afghans,, etc. etc. etc. i can't say that is a slur if that is what those words mean. Seems a bit overly sensitive. ~Bang

Seems a bit overly sensitive. ~Bang Generally that's how it works, but Pakistan seems to be an exception. The name Pakistan means "Land of the Pure." The name, coined in 1934 by Choudhary Rahmat Ali, represents the five territories that were proposed as constituents of a separate country for the Muslims in British India . These territories were previously considered as Afghan or Persian domains from a cultural as well as an ethnic point of view. Pakistan stands for these territories: P stands for Punjab, A for Afghania, K for Kashmir , S for Sindh, and Tan for Balochistan/Tokharistan. The name also implies that the people of this land are pure. Officially, the nation was founded as the Dominion of Pakistan in 1947 and was renamed as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in 1956. http://www.islamonline.net/English/In_Depth/news/pakistan/topic_07/index.shtml
Corcaigh
Whether Paki is a slur depends on where you live I think. It is definitely used as as offensive term in the UK, but in the USA I know some Pakistanis who use 'Paki' in screen names and their kids e-mail addresses.
