jivelikenice
I'm sorry but he has really declined. I have been a big fan of this guy since he got here but he is not making any plays out there. He was blitzing all game v. the Steelers and consistently got stoned by the running backs who picked him up. He can't get to the quarterback, he can't cover, and he's maybe decent against the run. It's a shame to see but he's really become a liability out there and I hope the coaching staff takes this week to make an adjustment there. I'd much rather see Blades starting until we draft a new OLB next offseason.
CjSuAvE22
Personally i agree, I feel hes lost his steps at the position and he keeps wasting his own energy dancing around and HOOO RAHING during the game...although I will say that he is playing a little bit better then at the beginning of the season vs the Cowhomos he was TERRIBLE. Soup
I hope you're not just basing this on the loss to the steelers. Everyone even Fletcher had some mistakes in that steelers game. I think he's similar if not exactly the same as rocky. I think he's like Springs in that he has had that hip injury for a while now and like springs, when healthy, is a great player. He has two more years on his contract and I don't see any reason why he a liablity to the team since the defense is ranked 4th in the league. One of these games Washington will have a monster game and everyone will be high on him again.

Slacky McSlackAss
He definitely has lost a step since the injury, but still makes some key plays on the field. I agree though that its time to start grooming his replacement as he is on his way out.
eagleskins
Our LB's are terrible outside of Fletcher. We need to draft a LB in the first 2 or 3 rounds this year.
RichC82
at least once a game, #53 will have an angle on someone in the backfield then he will just get outrun. Granted, that will happen to everyone - but in every game?? he has definitely lost a step, gotta love the enthusiasm though

d0ublestr0ker0ll
Our LB's are terrible outside of Fletcher. We need to draft a LB in the first 2 or 3 rounds this year. Hardly terrible, I like Rocky and Marcus, but when we go to replace Marcus (whenever that will happen), we need to draft a LB who is good in coverage. Both Rocky and Marcus are run stuffing specialists, which has hurt us a few time this year when they're forced in to coverage. As for the original post, Marcus is making plays. He IS a little slower, but he'd be able to make more of an impact if our D-Line was as good as 2004/2005's. Sure, the line wasn't GREAT then, but it was younger and definitely better. Marcus gets picked up by a guy 50 pounds heavier than him all the time because our shifts never confuse people and our stunts rarely work.

#98QBKiller
Marcus isn't as fast as he was but he's still a very good run stopper/pass rusher. Like someone else said when we do draft his replacement it needs to be a guy good in coverage as well as being a run stopper. I think Marcus is still very valuable to this team and we should keep him around as long as possible, even after drafting his eventual replacement. How many outside linebackers are havin a better year than Rocky?? (and this coming AFTER season ending knee sugery)
jivelikenice
Nothing wrong with Rocky....The weakness is with Washington. Its unfortunate but injuries have depleted him to the point where he can no longer be a great player. I'd rather see Blades in there as he's a more physical presence.... deejaydana
There was one play in the Steelers game early on where it was so evident that his speed is just gone. He is spent at this point and only at best a situational player. He's just the latest evidence of how quickly an NFL career can wind down.

Rocky isn't as quick as he was last year pre-injury. He might be back to full speed next season, but he is missing some explosion.
tml6157
I think we should go after Haynesworth in the offseason and make LB our first draft pick (this is assuming we get Hall). Having an LB group of Fletcher, Rocky, Blades, Marcus, Fincher and a first round draft pick would be NASTY!!
jtyler42
I agree with the OP...MW is a liability for us at this point in his career. He has given us 4 good yrs but it's time to get his replacement here. He can no longer cover, he doesn't bring any type of impact when he blitzes and he no longer has the burst and closing speed needed to be a full time player. Laron Burgundy
I think we should go after Haynesworth in the offseason and make LB our first draft pick (this is assuming we get Hall). Having an LB group of Fletcher, Rocky, Blades, Marcus, Fincher and a first round draft pick would be NASTY!! Getting both haynesworth and hall would probably be hell on our salary cap. Washington is obviously not healthy but I don't think he's done. He probably has another couple years left in him. Our linebackers, as a unit, are probably among the 10 best in the nfl. Maybe that is being a homer but honestly try to name 10 teams who have better linebackers as a whole. The difference between our linebackers in 2004 and now is that in 2004 we had big de's in renaldo wynn and phillip daniels. Our new de's are giving up about 40 pounds on those guys. Jason Taylor and Carter are better at rushing the passer, sure, but those two are fairly renowned for being soft to run on.
0mega
Washington's been slipping the past couple of years. In fact, I'd say that he's become one of the weak-links on our defense. Heart of a warrior, speed of my grandma. That said, I'd be in favor of making the following FA moves: * Replace one Auburn OLB with another - Karlos Dansby, come on down. * With the current fire-sale in Oaktown, let Tommy Kelly clear waivers ( and he will-nobody's going to touch his current contract) and plug him in the hole in the middle next to Golston. :logo:
Silent Majority
They need to give Albert Fincer(sp?) a chance. Cats got a motor like Horton IMHO.
