so what does this do to the cap...help/hurt?

Good question.

1. Releasing him today accelerates his cap hit. Meaning the team needed to clear cap space to take the hit.

2. Releasing him post 1 March accelerates his cap hit.

3. Releasing him post 1 March and claiming June 1 exception spreads his cap hit over two years.

A horrible mistake. I don't know what's worst, signing him in the first place or giving him a new contract for no reason.

Big contract mistakes happen - sending the Niners a 3rd and 4th round pick made it one of the worst blunders in Redskins history.

Deion, Bruce Smith, Arch Deluxe, these busts didn't cost us 1 if not 2 quality starters on a team that lacks young depth.

That makes it sound like it would have been better to wait til the weekend.

What's the benefit of doing it NOW?

Good riddance, BTW...

Him and Duckett, I think, were the two big mistakes because they cost draft choices. AA just meant we had to rearrange some money.

The Redskins have released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, the team has announced.

Lloyd's two-year stint with the Redskins proved to be a disappointment.

In March 2006, the Redskins traded two mid-round draft picks to the San Francisco 49ers to acquire Lloyd.

At the time, it was thought Lloyd would provide great speed and big-play ability to the Redskins' offense.

He ended up catching just 25 passes for 379 yards and no touchdowns in two seasons in Washington.

Lloyd began the 2007 season as a starter, but he was replaced by Antwaan Randle El and used in a reserve role.

He caught just two passes for 14 yards in eight games last year before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury during a Redskins practice
