The one phrase I want to NEVER hear from the Redskins again!

THE EVIL WORDS:

"Once we had the lead, we got conservative in the second half..."

Ack!

Yeah, yeah, I know we won Sunday. But you would have to be blind not to see how conservative we went on defense (especially) and offense in the second half compared to the first.

(In the first half, the Vikes QB had NO TIME to throw. We were in his face every play. In the second half, we rushed 4 and dropped back into coverage and he had all day - result - 21 points.)

Cooley was being interviewed post-game and he said those awful words:

"Once we had the lead, we got conservative in the second half..."

Please Joe, I have suffered through too many second half collapses this year due to "getting conservative with the lead" that I just can't bear another one .

WHAT WE MUST DO!

The rest of the year, when we have em down, let's STOMP EM! I mean, let's go all Patriots on 'em. Let's send 'em home without a shred of self-esteem left. Hell, let's be unsportsmanlike and go for it on 4th down in the red zone when we are already up by 28 in the 3rd quarter.

Let's not have to rely upon "12 men on the field" or "a bad pass-interference call" in the 4th quarter to determine the winner.

We have the players to embarrass other teams. Let's embarrass them full-speed for 60 minutes. If our aggressiveness loses us a game, so be it. At least we went down balls-to-the-wall.

CONCLUSION:

If we play the entire game like we played the first half this week, nobody ('cept maybe the Patriots) can beat us in the playoffs. If we play the second half like we did last week, we won't make it past the first round if we make the playoffs at all.

Getting conservative in the second half usually translates to running the football and eating up the clock. That's a very smart thing to do if you can do it effectively and that's been the Redskins' problem. When you run the football, you have to pick up those third downs so you don't give it back to them.

Well, when you are as good as the Patriots are, you can do that. Fact is, tho, we aren't THAT good on offense. When you are like us, you want to continue to drive with leads like that, but you also want to eat clock and force them to be aggressive on offense.

I don't think we did get conservative at all in the Minnesota game. We were still trying to drive the ball, but they are also working to force us to give up the ball. As for them scoring a couple of TDs, they figured out a way to throw against us in the second half. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.

Good lord people. Have you even been watching the games this year?

Third and 8 when a first down wins the game and we run it up the gut just to chew a few more seconds off the clock and pray our defense can stop them? Throw the damned ball and get the first down and win!

And to the guy who said "what do you want a bunch of 3 and outs and they throw a bomb for a TD?" Dude that is exactly what HAS been happening. Gut, gut, pass, punt. If something is working for you in the first half well enough to score over 20 points, DON'T STOP DOING IT IN THE SECOND HALF!

And no, I DON'T believe that the Patriots are THAT much better than us. I do believe that they have been coached MUCH BETTER than us this season.

BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PATRIOTS AND US:

The Patriots play like THEY EXPECT TO WIN. We play like WE ARE TRYING NOT TO LOSE.

Cooley said this? Hmmm, he should know since he's "SuperSmart" and "fights his guts out every week" ;-)

I don't see JG ever being unsportsmanlike (he's too much of a gentleman for that)...but, I don't think he'll play as conservative in the second half playoff games this year as he's called during the regular season so far...at least, I'm hoping he plays like the JG of old and gets up enough in the first half to make the second half an exercise in futility for the Seahawks and Cowgirlies and Packers and then revenge match with the Cheatriots

END GAME

The touchdown run by Jackson was bad coverage, nothing to do with the playcall, the playcall was acutally correct if you slow down and watch the play.

The last touchdown in the 2nd half was because of a bull**** pass interference call in the end zone on a play where Landry busts up the middle on the BLITZ and nails the **** out of Tavaris Jackson on 4TH DOWN to force the lame duck in the air. Torrence barely even touched the guy, so there are 14 of your points, off of crap. That should have been our ball at the 5 or wherever the hell that play started.

As far as our offense goes, what i saw was a time controlling run game with 8 passes throughout the half and a couple of 20 yard passes for completions that kept drives going and the clock running.

Your complaint about rushing the qb the whole game is just not rational. You can't rush the passer all game long with more than 4. Your d gets tired, not to mention, everything the Skins gave the Vikes in the second half was dink and dunk crap that amounted to the Vikings killing the clock themselves. When you have a 25-7 lead going into the fourth quarter you don't air the ball out to give the other team as many more possesions as possible. You make their d tired by running at them, just like the skins did.

Enjoy the win, Piercetype, they are hard to come by, and if they look like last week, ill take it every sunday with a smile. Our lines were better than theirs!

So, "playing conservative" didn't work out well enough for you last week, huh?

You seem to be under the same delusion as Mass_Skins fan that margin of victory counts for something in the NFL.

If you honestly think that the Minn. victory was any less dominating than a typical "blowout win" like the '05 victory over Dallas, I suggest you go back & look at some tape.

If "highest points scored" is all that matters to you, stick to playing Madden. Or go root for the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena League.

Unsportman-like? No way JG would ever do such a thing..and why should he? That 3rd qtr defense had me nervous..but we rebounded and won...I don't think we went conservative at all on offense. I still say Moss was in when he caught that ball...glad they had 12 men on the field:D . Just be happy with the "W"!

Obviously we became a bit more conservative in the 2nd half, but when we saw us losing momentum, Saunders and Gibbs changed it up a bit, and look what we did.....we went down and gave Portis a TD

I dont mind running the ball with the lead, as long as it works. The problem earlier this year is that it DIDNT work, so we ended up always giving the ball back. If we can eat up clock, and slowly progress down the field in the 2nd half, then Im fine with that

Problem is, if you don't get the first down (not as much of a sure thing as you are claiming) and we lose because we left too much time on the clock, you'd probably be saying the opposite.

The general attititude seems to be if it didn't work, then it must have been the wrong thing to do and they should have done the other thing. Course, execution isn't even considered.

BTW, that last drive was that damn "conservative" gameplan. You know, that one we scored the TD on? I don't see anyone complaining about that.

our choke losses earlier this year were from us being too predictable. During conservative time we never threw on 1st or second down. It was always run, run, run, punt or run, run, pass, pun.

I really didn't think we got conservative in the 2nd half this time. We tried another halfback pass. We went down and got a TD to ice the game away. I think we played more tentative in the 3rd quarter up 22-0, then playing tentatively. I was thinking "oh no" when they made it 25-14 and had recovered the fumble. I knew when we won the challenge, we would score and put the game out of reach. For once I could relax at the end.
