Clinton Portis needs more carries.

Gameplan: Give him the ****ing ball. It really is that simple. Two headed monster thing is cool and all, but nothing hits in the mouth like Portis does.

Simple enough.

you give the ball to your playmakers, portis is our playmaker.

how quickly we forget 2005. our 5 game win streak, portis always got better as the game went on. over 100 yards each game ( if memory serves me correct) and he was punching the ball in the endzone. Give the man the damn ball 20+ times a game and let him run wild. ESPCIALLY considering our young QB who isnt exactly blowing up defenses on his own.

Wheres 909997 with his stat of how when portis rushes for like 90 yards (or something like that) the skins are like 15-2 (or something like that...lol)

I agree. Give Portis the ball more. He is our #1 RB. Betts is a good back but he should not be splitting carries with CP. He should get some carries as does M. Sellars in short yardage situations. Portis is our running game hopefully the coaches realize that now.

Typically in a game that you are ahead you run more and throw more when trailing, I dont think it is any big football suprise that you will have more rushing attempts in victories.

How long were we ahead in the Giants home game last week?

Over 3 quarters!

Portis ran the ball 15 times or something, right? We lost, hmmm.

Either the OL sucks or they didn't run the ball enough.

Looks like he may not get any carries this week?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/01/AR2007100100905.html

The Washington Redskins returned to practice after their bye week without Clinton Portis and Santana Moss and continued their quest for more depth and production at wide receiver yesterday, signing veteran Keenan McCardell. Moss, who has a groin injury, said he could miss Sunday's game, and Portis has suffered a recurrence of the tendinitis in his right knee that sidelined him almost all of the offseason and preseason.

Maybe you should read the entire post before you comment.

25+ I dont care what your points are im sure ive heard them before! Why do U think a 2 back system has been so successful in the NFL? Portis need the ball 15- 20 times and Betts needs about the same. W/E believe what U want! Portis a beast he dosnt need more carries he just needs to be on the field, he's a Killa even when he dosnt have the ball in his hands!

Okay, besides the colts and bears (last year), exactly what teams have a successful 2 back system? And, out of those 2 teams, if they were so satisfied, why did they each let one of the RB's go?

Portis = Beast = be on the field but you want to put Betts in the same amouont of time? Explain how that works! Porits IS a beast and needs to be on the field. Yes, Portis and Betts need to split carries, BUT, only when Portis needs a rest!!

Bogus stat, my friend.

Teams that have a lead usually win. Teams that have a lead, usually run to milk the clock. Thus there is a correlation between winning and a larger number of carries no matter who runs the ball (Betts + Portis would do it too).

But, correlation does not imply causation. In other words, 25+ carries does nothing to enhance your chances of winning unless you already have the lead.

thank you oldfan. this thread is asinine. if we want to bring our offense into the 21st century, we need to try new things and use ALL of our players to the best of their abilities. like intermediate passing plays. or betts running some routes. or some betts/portis combo formations.

8 million threads about opening up the offense and then one game against the worst run defense in the league and suddenly it's 1952 all over again.

Sure we want him to get more carries, but it's not necessarily true that we win because he carries the ball more often. It's far more likely that he carries the ball more when we're winning, thus the statistics you mentioned.

I disagree... Look.

2004

Week 1: Tampa- Clinton got the ball 29 times for 148 yds... we won

Week 2: Giants-20 times... 69 yds.... we lost

Week 3: Dallas-23 times......94 yds.... we lost

Week 4: Cleveland-20.... ...58 yds.....Lost

Week 5: Baltimore- 25........53 yds... Lost

Week 6: Chicago- 36.... .....171 yds...We won

Week 7: Bye

Week 8: Packers- 17... .......70 yds....Lost

Week 9: Detroit- 34...........147 yds... Won

Week 10-12: All losses.... He had less than 20 in each one and never reached 100 yds

Week 13: Giants- 31.... .....148....Won

Week 14: Philly- 23... .......80 yds....Loss

Week 15: San Fran- 31... ...110....Won

Week 16: Dallas-10... .........32 ydsLoss

When he had 29 or over... We won.... When he didnt get the ball that many times.... We lost.

Anytime he went over 100 yds we won.

2005

W1: Bears- 21... ...121 yds....We won

W2: Dallas-17... ....52 yds....Won

W3: Bye

W4: Seattle- 25... .90 yds... Won

W5: Denver- 20.....103.... Lost

W6: KC- 21.... ......77 yds.....Lost

W7: San Fran- 19...101 yds... Win

W8: Giants- 4.........9 yds..... Lost- 36-0

W9: Philly- 21... .....67 yds.........Won

W10: TB- 23... ......144 yds....Lost because of a bad 2 point conversion call

W11: Oakland- 22... 92.....Lost

W12: SD- 29.... ......87 yds.....Lost

W13: STL- 27... ......136........Won

W14: Cardinals- 26...105 yds.... Won

W15: Dallas-23... .....112 yds....Won

W16: Giants- 27........108 yds.... Won

W17: Philly- 27.........112 yds..... Won

8 out of our 10 wins he had over 20 carries.

7 of the 10 wins he went over 100 yds.

2 of the losses he went over 100... but the TB game should have been a win... Horrible call by the refs in the last minutes on a Alstott run

Overall over 2 seasons.... when over 100 yds, we are 12-2

2006

W1: Vikings-10.... 39 yds.... Lost

W2: Dallas-0.... 0yds..... lost

W3: Texans-16... 86 yds.... Won (Remember how bad the Texans were)

W4 Jacksonville- 27.... 112 yds... Won

W5-7: All under 20 attempts.... all under 100 yds.... all Losses

W8: Bye

W9: Dallas- 23.... 84 yds.... Won because of a blocked FG

W10: Philly- 6.... 24 yds... Loss.

He was out the rest of the year.

He had over 20 attempts on 2 of the 3 wins

Out of the 3 wins... He went over 100 yds on 1. The Dallas game we should have lost.

So now over three seasons.... 13-3 when going over 100

2007

You know how the season has went... One 100 yd game from Portis... But he was never given the ball over 20 time in one game until last Sunday.

Since 2004....

16-10 when Portis is given the ball 20 times or over.

12-2 When Portis is given the ball 25 times or over.

5-0 when given the ball 30 times or over.

14-3 When he goes over 100 yds....

In short: HE NEEDS THE BALL!

just last week most everyone was saying that they wanted Betts in, now back to Portis and those that remember last week someone made a thread about Portis vs Betts sort of thing...Portis makes the big money for a reason, this past week is something I don't think Betts could do, although Betts is an awesome back, Portis is Betts with speed and better vision. anyway just wanted to vent alittle
