"Gibbs has had a ton of work to do with this team. Regardless of their record this year, this team shows up week in and week out and competes. I'd take that any day over the Spurrier, Schottenheimer, Turner eras."

soooo...where were they during the Rams game?

winning is all that counts. feeling good is for second place - what Tiger calls the "first losers"".

This thread, and the many like it on ES these days, shows me that most people know very little about what it takes to win in the NFL. Joe Gibbs is one of a handfull of coaches to win multiple Super Bowls. He's forgotten more about football than most people will ever know. So to the haters y'all can STFU!

The knock on Gibbs is that he is weak in evaluating talent. That's why a GM is needed to work with him. Bethard and Casserly did a good job with Gibbs. Cerrato doesn't have the gravitas to defy Gibbs when it comes to players. But let's be honest here, Gibbs cares more about character than talent. That's why Arrington is no longer here and that's why Gibbs goes for veterans. They've been through the wars and know what it takes.

And this year has been a year of finding our identity. The new offense cannot be discounted in our struggles. But with Campbell the offense is starting to take off. We're moving the ball and just scored 31 points. Next season we'll be ahead of the learning curve and immediately better for having put Campbell in to get experience.

And we were very unfortunate to lose Pierlou(sp?) on the first play of the season. He was our starting safety. Archuleta was going to play running downs but was forced to play as a cover safety, something we knew he wasn't suited for. And we also entered the season with Springs injured. Seriously, we were a few injuries away from having the same dominant defense as last year. Hard luck.

Next season is our season. We need continuity and the same hard work from coaches and players. The pieces are falling into place.

The fact is Gibbs II has been a disaster! We have given away draft picks, made terrible personel decisions on FA and have no cap room going forward.

"Disaster" might be too strong a word.

Gibbs II is 21-26 which is certainly mediocre and I think that, even given Joe's penchant for trading up in the draft, giving up draft picks in trades like party favors, and giving Grade A pay for Grade C free agents, we can maintain this mediocrity for several more years.

We might even get into the playoffs again someday. Mediocre teams often do.
