This is the funniest thing I've read on this site in a while.

Common knowledge buddy...

Just did a quick search:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamestown,_Virginia

After Smith was wounded in an accident when his powder bag exploded, he was sent back to England, where he wrote A True Relation about his experiences in Jamestown, and a second book, The Proceedings of the English Colony of Virginia. After Smith returned to England, Ratcliffe became President again. While on a trade mission shortly after being elected, Ratcliffe was captured by Chief Powhatan and tortured to death by women of the Powhatan tribe. The winter of 1609-1610 at Jamestown became known as the "starving time" in Jamestown, as the settlers faced starvation.

John Rolfe, a settler, had arrived in Jamestown in 1609, following the shipwreck of the Sea Venture. (This event may have inspired William Shakespeare's "The Tempest", through the log of Captain Samuel Jordan and accounts of William Strachey.) Wedged in a reef off Bermuda, the 150 survivors built "ships" from the wreckage, and sailed the two boats, known as the Deliverance and the Patience up to Jamestown, where they found the colony in ruins and practically abandoned.

In the meantime, the publication of Smith's book sparked a resurgence in interest in the colony, leading to the dispatch of additional colonists and a new governor, Lord de la Warr, in 1610. De la Warr forced the remaining 90 (really 60...out of 500-600!!) settlers to stay, thwarting their plans to abandon the colony.

The Algonquians eventually became disenchanted and, in 1622, attacked the out plantations killing over 300 of the settlers. Even though a last minute warning spared Jamestown, the attack on the colony and mismanagement of the Virginia Company at home convinced the King that he should revoke the Virginia Company Charter. Virginia became a crown colony in 1624. The fort seems to have existed into the middle of the 1620s, but as Jamestown grew into a "New Town" to the east, written reference to the original fort disappear. Jamestown remained the capital of Virginia until its major statehouse, located on the western end of the APVA property, burned in 1698. The capital was moved to Williamsburg that year and Jamestown began to slowly disappear above ground. By the 1750s the land was owned and heavily cultivated primarily by the Travis and Ambler families.

By the time the new Jamestown began to become established, other cities were already established so again, Virginia started what?

Thank you for continuing to prove my point

1) Why did you ignore St. Augustine? Want to add Santa Fe to the list? How about St. John's?

2) You still didn't answer my question. Virginia started what? If you mean slavery in what's now known as the US, then you're right. Yeah that's something to be proud of

3) Jamestown (if that's what you're refering to) was a complete failure. They had to force people to stay. Why would you build on a swamp?? Even back then Virginians weren't as smart as Marylanders, who built on high dry ground.

Trivia time: Do you know why Kent Island is part of Maryland and not Virginia?

Answer: Well let's just say even back then Virginians were a bunch of (rhymes with wussies) :)

Maryland > Virginia

forgot one thing....FEAR THE TURTLE
