rincewind
Sorry if this has been posted, i did a search and didn't see it... I noticed that during the pregame MNF style intros Lavar said what High School he went to. Did him and PSU have some kind of falling out? Is this old news that i missed? skinned alive
i was wondering that as well. i haven't seen or heard anything of the sort. maybe he was just being different? maybe his high school just won some big game or had an anniversary of some major accomplishment?? rincewind
In the past i've seen examples of it when the player is distancing themselves from their college - like Coles and FSU. Plus - you'd think Lavar would be pretty proud of PSU after this season.
Califan007 The Constipated
I thought I heard that, too...well, I just knew I didn't hear Penn State, anyway...lol
inevitable
Pretty sure M. Washington announced his high school as well, maybe they're proud of their home high school teams as well.
Califan007 The Constipated
Well, he DOES blame Paterno for the "freelancer" label...
COOLhandsCOOLEY
Dang ya beat my two seconds or so Coles was kicked out of FSU though right? I think it might stem from Joe Pa and the "freelancer" tag. I think LA believes that is how the reputation started.
PleaseBlitz
No he didnt, sometimes guys just think it would be cool to give their high school props.
Fatty P For The Pulitzer
It's the in thing for the players now. About a third of the starters did it.
G.A.C.O.L.B.
I saw or heard an interview with Lavar about Penn States Orange Bowl game against FSU. He was supportive of them so I don't think so.
HittinSkinz
sometimes the players even mention the middle school or kindergarten they went to... it is not that they had a falling out with their college or high school.. they are just trying to be different
rincewind
It's the in thing for the players now. About a third of the starters did it. Yeah, i've noticed it has become more popular. I was just surprised to see L.A. do it after the year PSU had. Thanks for the answers!

Redskins4ever
I noticed that too. I don't think it's a big deal. Maybe he just wanted to honor his high school because of his first playoff appearance.
LA56Fan
I can tell you he loves Penn State. I was the only one at the park last night with his 11 penn state jersey and in a crowd of hundres he made a comment about how he liked it and made sure he signed it right with the number 11!!!! jjcskins
I believe it's because the players didn't graduate from their colleges/universities...........
USNationalist
they just wantt to give credit or priase to more then just their college. I even heard a player give a shoutout to his pop warner team. When you get to say where you are from alot its nice to mix it up everynow and then. Stay true to your roots. terps'n'skins
Coles was kicked out of FSU though right? Yeah, I think he was cought with Peter Warrick about that jacket incident..But they only kicked him out and not Warrick...something like that. 4Ever51
I believe it's because the players didn't graduate from their colleges/universities........... I believe you are correct. Didn't Lavar get drafted as a junior? This seems to be the thing these days, as Vince Young from UT will also be announcing his high school when he is lucky enough to be in the playoffs. DaveP666
Like every Redskins player, now that he has had a taste of the playoffs, he wants more. "We can learn from this," he said. "For a lot of us, it was our first playoff game and this was a good building block. We're battle-tested. We're gaining momentum and we're gaining confidence."
