Art
Good signing by the Eagles. Freeman is a proven player who has experience in the WCO. He should help them a lot.
RTerps2002
The Eagles are to one dimensial....... McNabb cannot beat anyone if you keep him in the pocket
Ignatius J.
well this gives him a weapon, and that's not good news for us. -DB
JimboDaMan
This addresses a major weakness for the Iggs. They have the workmanlike Thrash and a flashy but ultimately lightweight supporting cast. I've been wondering whether the Iggs were ever make their move.
MikeB
This helps them tremendously. They will be tough to beat for sure now.
MikeB
One thing this does tell us is that Reid is not satisfied with: 1. Thrash's development. In other words, he is what he is. Solid and that's it. 2. Freddie Mitchell's development. This is real bad for them as he is supposed to be a large part of their future at WR. 3. Todd Pinkston. He sucks. With a name like that how could you be good. Freeman will help this year. But he's not the future either.

Zen-like Todd
After watching the Iggles game yesterday, I expected this. Their WRs did not look good at all. Freddie Mitchell looks like crap for a first round WR. This REALLY helps them out. Week 2 just got harder.

He brought him in to lead the inexperienced WR's last season. Yes, Freeman was brought in because Mitchell can't get it done. Mitchell was supposed to be the slot last season, then migrate to the #1 this year, but couldn't even learn the slot routes in time to be a factor all year. This season, his mission was the same...learn the #3. He still is struggling so Freeman was brought in on a one-year basis to cover. They may try to go long-term on him if Mitchell still can't get a grasp during the season. The Eagles like "Pinky" simply because he's fast and can get up to catch the high-ball, but he's having trouble getting separation off the line and isn't proving to be a good enough deep threat as a result. I just worry that somebody's gonna snap one of them chicken bone legs of his one day.
Art
The thing I wonder about with the preseason is that, like Reid, Spurrier is not game planning or showing anything of consequence. He's running the Florida Gators offense exactly and seems to be productive. Teams like Philly or the Rams who have not looked good in the preseason don't really have much to show as they are more proven. But, it does make me wonder how our team seems so smooth offensively at times and others, like the Bucs, seem so confused.
NavyDave
Well if the iggles are so vanilla and not showing anything why do they need freeman? Resting D Green, giving bauman work and smoot as well as Champ gives us 4 corners that should matchup well with freeman. Heck we had B Smith dropping in cover covering a running back nicely as well as Lavar on a WR. No worries here

MikeB
you should be worried Actually, you should be worried. If the Skins aren't a serious threat this year, they will be next. Cowboys appear to be improving as well. You window of opportunity is diminishing very quickly my friend...
EagleRob
Originally posted by NavyDave Well if the iggles are so vanilla and not showing anything why do they need freeman? OK, I'll say it again. They need Freeman because Mitchell hasn't progressed to thier liking at any of the WR positions. He was given the task last season of learning the slot and failed. The master plan had him taking over the #1 this year and he is not ready. They are still willing to have Thrash handle that role and let Pinkston take the #2. But Mitchell hasn't learned even the #3 to this day, so they've signed Freeman to take over that role. Whether or not the receivers worked out the way they wanted, the offense would still be vanilla in preseason. If I have to put one reason on why the offense isn't producing to this point it would be McNabb. He works better when he's moving around and nobody on this site with a real knowledge of his game will question that. In the scaled-down offense they've been using, he's not moving. Drop back...scramble to buy time for the receivers, throw the ball. He did rip off a few runs at times, but prudently ran out-of-bounds when defenders got close. What I'm saying is that the preformance of the receivers and the playcalling on both sides of the ball in the preseason are independent of one another. Freeman was brought in because the Eagles didn't like what they've seen from Mitchell going all the way back to mini-camps...and hell, last season. This is the first year that they legitimately expected to contend for the Super Bowl. They weren't getting there with the receivers they had and they knew it. This deal with Freeman has been on the table since his release. He just wanted more time to shop himself around and get a fair assessment of his value. BTW, don't be surprised if you see a trade for Jimmy Smith in the next few weeks either. With Freeman at the #3, we'd let Smith take the #1 and move Thrash to his ideal #2 position. Pinky would then be relegated to backup #2.
OrangeSkin
Freeman is old and crippled and he's not going to help them much. If McNabb can't get him the ball, how is he going to catch it? I hope he's a good blocker. They should just send McNabb to some hippie scientist deep in the forest of Oregon and clone McNabb so he can play every position. But you know what's funny? They'd still suck because McNabb can't pass worth a crap! :high: He always looks antsy in the pocket, and he doesn't set his feet to throw. He can't throw a 5 yard pass in the flat. It's either at the receivers feet or over his head. Problem is, he has a gun for an arm. It's like having a Corvette revved up with the emergency brake on. I'm sorry to see his talent squandered in that hellhole. Can you imagine McNabb in this offense?

EagleRob
OrangeSkin, if McNabb sucks so bad, two questions...first, why would you suggest that we clone him 11 times?...and second, why do you drool over him playing in your offense? Just keep stroking it man...he's the best athlete in the league. Good news for you is his contract is up in four more years. Maybe Snyder will shell out the bucks for him. Until then, here's a tissue...

Blade
Originally posted by StinkNugget Oops, the Eagles got a proven receiver to go with the rest of their NFC Championship game team... When the Eagles show that they STILL dont have a passing game even with a "proven" WR, we expect you to come back and blame McNabb and his poor accuracy from the pocket. Yea, right. If the Iggs get back to the playoffs and the NFC championship, it will be due to Mcnabb's improvising and running, NOT his sharpshooting skills in the pocket. EagleRob
Improvising and running....sharpshooting...who cares? NFC Championship is NFC Championship. Don't matter how you get there as long as you do. Most Skins fans on this board are quick to criticize McNabb for being a terrible pocket passer with poor accuracy in short pass situations. Fair enough. Ask your DB's how thier broken ankles feel after he runs past them. Fact is...the same people on this site who are the biggest critics of McNabb and cite his passing skills for why the Redskins are better, are the same people that can't wipe the drool off thier chins fast enough, wishing he was running your team. Well, he's not. So, Eagles fans don't care how sparkling the passing offense is, just give McNabb a window, either to throw or run, and he'll continue to beat you. That's what makes a champion, someone who can find a way to beat you in any situation. I've also heard that without McNabb, the Eagles are a 5-11 team. Maybe so, but doubtful. Do they take a hit? Sure. But as long as he's in there, we'll never know.

Henry
No way to spin this. Freeman is a great pickup for the Eagles. We've all thought of the Eagles WRs to be one of their big weaknesses, but we can't anymore. An upgrade is an upgrade no matter how you slice it. We still match up pretty well against them, but It would have been nicer if they had continued to sit on their hands. Oh well.
