Skins24
First part is Saturday night into Sunday. Second part is Sunday night into Monday. Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Baltimore Maryland/Washington District of Columbia 258 PM EST Thursday Dec 1 2005 ..... Long term (friday night through thursday)... The NAM and GFS continue to be in relatively good agreement through Saturday night. High pressure over the middle Mississippi River valley will continue to weaken over the weekend as it drifts to the southeast. Northwesterly flow will increase behind the ridge and support upslope showers in the west on Saturday and Saturday night. This is unfortunately where the models begin to disagree and forecast confidence lowers. The GFS has shifted the track of the approaching low pressure system further to the north...while the NAM takes the low further south across southern Virginia. The UKMET and European model (ecmwf) are closer to the GFS solution...so the forecast trended closer to the northern solution. This will place a portion of the forecast area in the warmer sector of the system...making precipitation type more of an issue. With this system still forecast to occur in the medium range...will carry all snow in the far west and higher elevations...and a rain snow mix elsewhere. A mix of freezing rain and sleet is certainly a possibility...but will stick with rain and snow wording for now. Upslope snow showers will continue for the west through the weekend. Only a brief calm period is expected ahead of the next...stronger system...approaches the region Sunday night into Monday morning. Again...the models disagree with the placement of the approaching coastal low. For now...with keep with the higher guidance probability of precipitation that range from 40 to 70 percent on Sunday night and Monday. Again...precipitation type is an issue and will carry a similar mixed trend as the first system. Weak high pressure will build in behind this system ahead of another cold front expected for the middle to end of the work week.

Skins24
Too soon to tell. It'll be colder on Monday, and that storm may be a little stronger so that'll be the one to watch for accumulations.
Skins24
Stormy weather expected during the early part of next week as a series of low pressure traverses the middle Atlantic region. First wave of low pressure will bring mostly rain to the area Sat night and early sun although a brief period of snow/ice pellets is likely at onset. Not anticipating any appreciable snow amts and/or advisories with this first storm. A second and stronger wave of low pressure poses a sig threat for MDT to heavy snows across the entire region Monday. 00z GFS ensemble data shows pretty good clustering tracking a surface low across far northern Georgia and into North Carolina Monday. 850 mb temperatures and thicknesses are sufficiently cold enough for snow most areas except right along the coast and far southern areas bordering akq's County Warning Area. **Will strongly emphasize this second storm on severe weather potential statement product. Much colder air will follow behind this system with 850 mb temperatures plummeting to -16c by Tuesday evening. Remaining cold but dry Tuesday-Thursday as strong 1037 mb high builds over the area and 850 mb temperatures remain in the minus teens. 00z GFS still indicating another potentially winter storm affecting the area next Thursday night-Friday Dec 8-9. **...........A MORE SIGNIFICANT SNOW EVENT IS LIKELY SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY AS A SECOND AREA OF LOW PRESSURE CROSSES THE CAROLINAS. PRECIPITATION MOST LIKELY WILL BE IN THE FORM OF SNOW...ALTHOUGH A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW IS POSSIBLE ACROSS CENTRAL VIRGINIA AND LOWER SOUTHERN MARYLAND. AT THIS TIME...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW CAPABLE OF CAUSING TRAVEL PROBLEMS AND SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS.
E-Dog Night
As a long time DC resident, I can tell you almost exactly what is going to happen. There will be mostly rain, with maybe a little snow that won't hardly stick. If you live in western MD or VA then you might see a little more snow. Drivers in DC will put chains on their cars to drive through 1/2" of slush, at worst, while they white-knuckle their way to someplace they don't need to be. Schools all around the region will close and milk and water will disappear from your local supermarket. Not to worry, though, because every restaurant, deli and convenience store in the region will be open as usual. This town is pathetic when it comes to snow.
