When a friend asks you not to vote...

First, I think she's a moron.

That said, I actually think that people who are not happy with either major candidate(which is the category it sounds like you fall into), should either not vote, vote for a 3rd party candidate they can support, or vote for Mickey Mouse. When it comes right down to it, each individual vote is meaningless. There are far too many people participating in the vote for your vote to mean anything. If you disagree with this claim, ask yourself if a question, "If I had not voted, what would be different now?" So, by voting for a candidate you're not doing much to help him win, it's far more a symbollic gesture to say, "I like this guy, and I hope he wins." You're throwing your hat in with this guy.

So, if you aren't confident in his abilities to lead, why would you do that? It's for this reason I didn't vote in '04 presidential election. I had a preference, I believed one would have beent the lesser of 2 evils, but I didn't support either. So, I'm did not vote for either, and I'm not going to vote for any candidate I don't believe in. I see no reason to make apologies for this. I think that the people who voted for candidates they don't ultimately believe in are the people who should be making apologies.

Conservative, Liberal, Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Fascist, Communist; it really doesn't matter. EVERYONE has the right and, dare I say, obligation to vote in this country, what ever way his/her mind and/or conscience sway. If someone with an opposing view does not go and cast his/her vote, then they are the one at fault.

Asking someone not to vote is almost criminal in my eyes. You are so in the right here. She was wrong by just asking you not to vote, nevermind expecting you not to do so. And, to top it off, she is very much in the wrong for being upset at YOU for this situation. The request was more than just assinine. You were gentle with her if that is all you said about it.

Awesome Shallow!

so well put as well: "In conclusion SMS you just were having a conversation with a chick that has the typical Liberal theology that everyone else should change so things go the way they want them to and when that does not happen they turn into a bunch of whiny a** b*tches. Just look at the Liberals after the last election.......Boo-Hoo...Sob..SOb.."

:notworthy

I would've told her to take her asinine "friendly request" and shove it up her you-know-what. Then I would've gone back to playing video games and forgotten to vote!

Seriously though, she's an idiot. Next time you see her, wear one of these tshirts:

And don't let this eat away at you. The Skins, Wiz, and O's already do a good enough job at that.

No, no. I've voted every time I've been able to. I admit it was bad to have the intention not to vote, I've learned not to take it for granted because it's obvious that people (her) do.

And yeah, the Skins, Wiz and O's do a mighty fine job of pissing me off.

Spiff, you acted like a grade A jerk. The only reason you voted was to spite this woman. At least she had a little misguided heartfelt belief (their is a certain logic to her argument). You did something for no other reason than to upset somebody else, so I hope you feel proud.

The great thing about voting being a right is that it's a right. Nobody owes anyone any explanation for their votes or the reasons for their votes. If he voted just to spite someone, that's no business of anyone's. If he voted because he thought the sky is green and the Redskins are 10-0 (or 0-10), he is entitled. When I vote for any reason, I feel proud. And if by voting I could spite someone like the socialist girl in question, I'd be even prouder.
