Skins to get lots of compensatory draft picks in 2003

John Clayton at ESPN:
The Redskins made a little news when the league announced that they received a compensatory seventh-round choice even though the team didn’t suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents. Well, next year there won’t be a problem. Linebacker Eddie Mason is thus far the only Redskins to re-sign. They have lost eight free agents, which could translate into four compensatory choices next year.

You cant trade comp picks. But this wont stop us from trading everything else to move up to get Eli. And keeping the comp picks to use as our draft.

Although if this year serves as a standard, Tags and the league will f**k us over and give us a 7th rounder.

FA's lost:

Barber, Battaglia, Lyle, Alexander, Graham, Raymer, Szott, Lang

Still left: Westbrook, Carter, Banks, Coleman

FA's gained:
Anthony, Armstead, Green, Jones, Moore, C. Powell, Wynn

Not sure if they count: Englehardt, Craig, S. Powell

Id say by the looks of things we wont get any comp picks. Barber-Armstead, Raymer-Moore, Szott-Jones, Lang-Wynn would seem to cancel each other out. Alexander and Westbrook would be offset by Green and Anthony. So we might be lucky to get another 7th rounder.

However i would rather have Renaldo Wynn, Jessie Armstead and experience on the O-Line then a a couple extra 4th or 5th rounders next year.

Romo sits to pee
The UFAs lost are rated against the UFA signed

To date the 2001 UFA's lost by the skins
Barber, Battaglia, Lyle, Alexander, Graham, Raymer, Szott, Lang

the 2001 UFAs gained:
Anthony, Green, Jones, C. Powell, Wynn

These FAs were cut by there previous teams and don't count as UFA Additions for calculating the compensotory picks.
Armstead, Moore, Englehardt, Craig, S. Powell

Agree I would rather have Wynn than Lange or late round picks.

In light of this, trading for Loverne looks even better. Instead of signing another teams backup FA, they simply move down a few slots in the 5th, get exactly the type of guy they wanted, and increase the likelihood that they will receive compensatory picks next year.

There's only one QB the Skins will go after in 2003. Grossman.
