And who do you think the corporations are complying with? I don’t believe these mandates are nearly as popular as you believe that they are. There’s a reason Florida has gained 600k residents since the start of the pandemic, while California lost over 180k residents in a year. But you know, TV box and such

1 - I work for a company that supports small/medium businesses. And the growth in employee count is insane. Those businesses have pivoted and thrived. Many moving to remote when possible and having mandates.

2 - is 600k the net increase? I am not finding the same numbers. Yes #1 in entry, but also #4 I believe in exits. And I think YoY it’s barely over a 1% gain from prior year growths.

3 - I do not believe your cali figure is accurate either.

    and again

GOP 2020 : “Everyone should still work during a pandemic. I need groceries, medical care, and restaurants. Make my food for min wage. If you quit for “your health” you are a lazy freeloader!”

GOP 2021: “No one should have to work if it requires a vaccine or mask or test which I’ve decided are all unhealthy. I quit!”

Are you suggesting Democrats don't know who votes for them anymore?

Odd, back in January when Biden took office I thought people were saying the opposite.

I think you both are confusing “base” with “moderates” and “centrists”. I think of base as the guaranteed die hards. This sect is shrinking. Dem Politicians seem to be picking single issues. No well rounded platform anymore.

true blue democrats keep dismissing us never trump Republicans and Independents. We are literally writing Dems a playbook and we keep getting annoyed.

even I am considering just sitting 2024 out.

We needed more turn out from our own base and we ignored a huge chunk of it instead. Fail bus.

Issue being - no one can define or agree on who the Dem “base” currently is.

How much do we think the issues the Biden admin is having with things like the Infrastructure Bill affected the VA Gov race?

I think an infrastructure bill would of had to have been passed, implemented, and folks feeling the benefits well before it could impact an election cycle.

This gives me a little hope but, I dunno, feels like an ominous result.  We are in a much different landscape than ever before.

I was trying to lie to myself with this justification too. But I at least am willing to admit I was lying to myself.

What do y’all think this says about democratic voters? I know how I feel about the Republican ones. Not much nuance there.

What is happening in politics is the same thing happening in the workplace. A bunch of Baby Boomers who refuse to listen to what Millennials actually want and instead decide they know better. And a bunch of Millennials that refuse to consider that Boomer experience does have its place.

The Dems love to think their ideas are so ****ing amazing.  And yet, their problem seems to be that a lot of people don't agree or they have a real hard time communicating why their ideas are so ****ing amazing.  Their haughtiness makes it hard to like them.

It’s what happens when politicians are more worried about Twitter followers than public service.

Population growth rates are too low to support all the retirees, especially as they live longer. Your social security contributions have already been spent on today's retirees. You need new workers if you are going to get money from SS.

so we should keep making babies simply to fund SS?

….I could be wrong, but that sounds like a pyramid scheme if I’ve ever heard one.

  6. I’m happy to elaborate, but didn’t want to waste my thumbs to do so.

But short version, insurance isn’t cut and dry. I keep seeing reference to the ability to charge smokers more. That isn’t always true. Insurance comes in a variety of “flavors”. Rules vary drastically between small group, large group, individual coverage, self bill, risk share, age-banded/risk-band, etc.

this is why there is so much discrepancy in who can/will/should charge more for unvaccinated and such.

Pointing out that your story involves THREE maskless people. Curiously, you seem to be slapping a label on only one side of the dispute.

Actually it was 5. Again, my issue wasn’t them having their belief or opinion. The issue was the rude manner in which they behaved.

And the restaurant would have told potential customers, in advance, that their business has a policy of saying that employees should follow health rules, but if the employee chooses not to, the business will defend the employee, and order the customer to leave?

They never ordered them to leave. They simply calmly explained their policy and indicated if they were not comfortable they would understand if they chose to go elsewhere. And the health rules in VA were being followed at the establishment. VA does not have a state mandate on masks.

  8. So @TheGreatBuzz and I went out for a date night. As we were waiting to enter the movie theater, next door was a restaurant with outdoor seating. 2 couples, mid 60s perhaps had just sat down to dine. They are mask free.

a young server approaches the table. One of the women, let’s call her Karen, asks “are you vaccinated?” The server responds “I’m  not allowed to answer that.” Karen responds “well either you answer the question or you are going to go get a mask!”  The server goes inside, we can see a convo occurring inside. The manager returns to the table and politely explains that they ask their servers to wear a mask if not vaccinated, however they do not require proof or ask them personally if they have been. She indicated they have a policy and expect their employees to abide by it. She did throw out the HIPAA term. The table themselves threw out misinformation as well. The manager told them they were free to leave, that this was the policy for their establishment and the choices they have made for their patrons and staff.

I’m a vaccine fan. I’m a mask when needed fan. I am not a fan of people being a-holes just to be a-holes. If you are THAT concerned of your personal boundaries on masks - take the 5 min and call ahead to ask the policy of the PRIVATE establishment.

    Just be kind.

    end rant.

I said ~75% men. Look in the middle of the picture - it's a sea of men.

So…..because you wanted to continue this….I will too.

The children alone make up 22% of those on the plane. And that’s ONLY counting children who could sit on an adults lap, so assuming most between 13-17 aren’t even included in that count.

My question did the US really fund "nation building" in Afghanistan?  Or was it more funding our own and their militaries?   I seem to recall a comment during the Bush admin specifically saying they were not going to be doing nation building, but maybe my memory isn't good on that one.

If the administration said we weren’t Nation Building, there’s almost guarantee we were Nation Building. All jokes aside, I don’t see how you can classify what we were doing there as anything but Nation Building.

A joke I know, but the more I read about wars the more pacifist I get.  Even to the extent that I have a hard time fighting in the American revolution ( say, had I been a colonist at the time withot the benefit of foreknowledge) .

Except for rare circumstances like Hitler and  bin Laden.  **** those guys.

So you think without war (read: a show of force and global babysitter) what deters actors like Hitler and OBL from existing?

Buzzette and I may try to make it if it was on a Saturday.  Probably end up getting a hotel room.

Saturday easiest but I feel like we could make any of those days work.

I was going to let A+, Network+, and Security+ expire because i now have the CISSP.

I've grown tired of cert chasing, I have a couple lifetime certs (Linux+ and database MTA) and was going to let CEH expire while studying for OSCP.

But you right, they are resume filters still and the game isn't over yet.

You gave me a mild panic attack….apparently I got my security+ before they switched from lifetime cert to 3 year only. Totally get it, those CEUs are annoying. However (and I can say this since I’m in the field) most recruiters are idiots and would not know your higher certs would supersede the others. Just do it. 🙂
