I’m in this weird spot where I feel like I should be grateful considering all we’ve been through. To get rid of Dan, hire a guy like Peters, have the #2 pick and a ton of cap space is really fairy-tale like. Adding a brilliant offensive mind to develop the QB we select at 2 just felt so right and in alignment with all of that. While I feel like we dodged a bullet, because Johnson clearly isn’t head coach material- I still can’t help but feel negative because of where we sit now. I’m not even of the mindset that Quinn is Ron 2. I really like a lot of what I’ve read about Quinn and who he is as a man and coach. As much as a lot of you don’t want to hear it, he is highly regarded by former and current players. What I think separates him from many retreads is his own acknowledgment of where he went wrong in his first stint and how he was going to learn from that. Most coaches ego won’t allow them to be that honest with themselves. But at the end of the day, we are still getting stuck with scraps right now from an overall staff standpoint and the thought of drafting a QB without an elite coach to develop said QB is enough that it’s just hard for me to be thankful about how fortunate we’ve been over the last year to rid ourselves of Dan and Ron. It’s not fair to HOG and Peter’s, but I just can’t shake it.

To willfully choose to remain a #2, for the second season in a row, seems rather beta to me. There’s really nothing wrong with that either. Perhaps OC is where he belongs and he recognizes that. Hes a really good one or else we wouldn’t have wanted him. But to lead everyone on and bail at this time is a **** move.

Agreed. I think we’ve all had those “if they pay me X, I’d take the Y position” talks with our family and friends before. I gather he’s happy being and X’s and O’s guy and when things got real about being a head guy, he got cold feet. Not a trait that I want in a head coach. Still hate this guy forever and a day for putting us in this situation.

I know this sounds like a lover scorned trying to convince himself the girl who doesn’t want him really ain’t 💩 anyways. But, the last thing I want is a head coach that would do this. No matter what it is: unprecedented demands, lack of confidence in himself as a leader of men, whatever. None of it is what you want out of your head guy. I’d have no ill-will for him had he not led us on for weeks. But we are now in a bad place. Every O coach minus Slowik has been hired, staffs have been filled out. The pickings are slimmer, all because we waited for a wishy washy dude.

I know it comes across like a spurned lover, and it’s partly that- because waiting on him likely put us behind the 8 ball. But I actually look at it from the perspective that we may have dodged a bullet. Anyone complacent enough to continue being 2nd fiddle AGAIN, or if rumors are true wants an unprecedented amount of money to coach, those are red flags for me.

@Skinsinparadise I get it for sure, never mistaked you for a Quinn guy. 🤣 I just think he has an easier road ahead of him in convincing owners and GM’s that he’s the guy because of all the experience he has, both coaching and interviewing. He can speak from experience the way others can’t and while he’s older, he’s not in his late 60’s, 70’s like Pete and Bill. I don’t even dislike Quinn, just when we have the ability to start from scratch like this I’d much prefer we do it with an up and coming offensive mind.

It made all the sense in the world for the 49ers to give up their bonus 3rd for the chance Chase recognizes what’s in front of him and buys in. Just like it made all the sense in the world that we took the 3rd and moved on. Chase though has proven he’s a lost cause. When you get shipped to a SB contender with a contract to play for and still put out lazy tape, it’s safe to say he’s never going to get it.

A. Seattle is annoying for surprisingly canning Carroll and entering the coaching chase. B. The above lacked class. C. I think they only do this because they have someone, likely Johnson, that they desperately want. Hopefully, Johnson doesn’t get the warm and fuzzies based on how they kicked the coach who delivered a Super Bowl to the curb. I also have to think that selecting a rookie QB at #2 is more enticing than inheriting Geno Smith.
